Summary: Pretty decent movie
Review: This is a good movie, probably better than you've heard. Yes there are some cliche's and some other flaws but they're not that bad. The animation is flawless and I was amazed how well the characters moved. If you've played any of the games or seen enough anime the plot should seem familiar but you'll still enjoy the movie. It's worth seeing and worth buying when it comes out on DVD.

Summary: 3 Words- Best Movie Ever
Review: When I first saw a preveiw of the movie Final Fantasy The spirits Within I could not tell if the characters in the movie were real or not.

I had only known about the Final Fantasy game seris vagly, but I liked it. When I saw the preview for the movie of Final Fantasy the spirits within I was extatict. I went to the official website and other Final Fantasy the spirits within webpages and I really wanted to see it. The story plot I read was amazing. I wanted nothing more then to watch it. I went to the Final Fantasy the spirits within web site almost everyday and the more I saw of it the more I wanted to see it. When the movie did come out I went to see it in the theater.

The movie was awsome and even better then I expected. I couldn't believe it. Everything about the movie was incredible. The movie made you feel like you were there but youy were there in a dream. A very realistic dream. It wasn't sappy but ful of action, it wasn't fighting all the time but beauty and feeling and loss and love. The CG Animationm was incredible the veicles looked like the crew took things from all around Earth and but them all together to make very cool veicles.

Now that I've seen the movie I plan to buy it and all the other Final Fantasy the spirits within stuff. My friend and I have always loved stuff like this and in a way it was like a dream come true for me to have such a great movie to watch.

All in all Final Fantasy the spirits within was a great movie, my favorite, and 5 star rated by me. The most I can hope for is a sequall to this amazing movie. -Best Movie Ever

Summary: A comprehensive review from a fan's point of view
Review: Being a fan of the Final Fantasy series from the beginning I was extremely pleased with how Square handled the adaptation of the series to the big screen perfectly. Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within stays true to the franchise for multiple reasons only a few I will point out in this review. First off staying true to the game series it is set on an entirely diffrent world and setting than any of the games. Secondly, the story works on multiple levels and the interactions and character motivations between the character's bring them to life with startling detail. The look of the movie is fully outstanding, and the hardwork and time to do such detailed CG work truely pays off. In the end the movie not only does credit to the series but in and of itself stands out among filmaking.

Summary: Thumbs up all the way
Review: I thought this movie was one of the best movies in animation I'd ever seen! I heard from other people that the movie was a total bomb, but then again the people who told me this were teeny boppers...but in other words, this movie is the greatest!

Summary: Just a simple franchise to get Square more money, 3 stars
Review: Well personally, this is a great movie, sure a bit of cliches here and there, a "at least it gets the job done" ending, but the movie was actually pretty good, i can watch it a billion times without it getting old. kinda like Star Wars, not the best movie in the world, but a movie you can watch in your spare time.

but ever since final fantasy 7 came out, there are like a bazillion new fans that try to talk about the final fantasys (ive known about final fantasy ever since its first release in the USA, ive been playing since the US release of part 4 [ thats part "2" you newbies ] )

considering the fact the most of teh reviewers ive read are peple that played part 7 as the first, seeming that some probably bought the game for its fancy CG graphics and NO GAMEPLAY shots shown in the commercials , so i guess that just makes me also think that in the movie some were complaining "where's cloud?" YES THAT ACTUALLY HAPPENED when i watched it the. so i just thought many newbies still think that part 8 or part 2 still have some 'connection' in part 7, well sorry TV commercial zombies it doesnt

Summary: Not my final fantasy, but anyways...
Review: There's something a little disappointing about this movie. One reviewer remarked how it leaves you "empty" after watching it, and I really think that sums it up completely for me. I've never played any of the games, so I don't know if I'm missing some sort of big meaning in the movie, but I doubt it. Non gamers won't have any problems understanding what's going on, it's obviously made with a view to a bigger audience than game devotees. But that might be part of the problem, the movie's plot and characters are just too simple, too straightforward. Movie studios are hardly the sources of creativity and originality, I know, but surely it's not impossible to make a movie without following a paint-by-numbers plot line.

Having said that, it is so good to see a movie dealing with important issues like death and loss and betrayal. Even the undercurrent of Eastern philosophy - unity of spirit between all life forms and the earth - is an intriguing departure from the (blockbuster) norm. But after a little too much (needless?) death one is left wondering why on earth we're even along for the ride. If we're all going to be happily at one with the earth and each other after death, who cares if we all die sooner rather than later? What are they all so worried about in the movie? The underlying idea of the spirits, then, makes the human struggle for survival a bit pointless and futile. Movies like this, where humanity's survival is at stake, walk a thin line between being depressing and inspiring, and for me at least, my feeling was that of the former.

To compare it with another recent game-to-movie, "Tomb Raider", while the story in "Final Fantasy" is far superior in terms of its cohesion and strong narrative, TR ends up being more hopeful in its conclusion and thus (for me) more enjoyable. Neither movie is particularly brilliant, both examine (in superficial ways) ideas of Eastern mysticism, personal sacrifice, and past romances that have stalled, not to mention women in heroic roles. I'm not suggesting that TR is a masterpiece, but at least it didn't take itself too seriously. In their highest forms movies ought to entertain the audience while giving them something to think about, but "Final Fantasy" seems to major on the heavy issues without much of the entertainment.

Overall I give it three stars. The computer generated effects are great, at times the characters look utterly real (although I kept trying to imagine the movie with actors instead of pictures), and there were definite moments of promise in the movie, moments where it could have developed in more complex ways rather than straight along the lines. Give the audience something to feel positive about, develop the characters and plot, and there's the five stars.

Summary: One of the most underappreciatiate works of all time
Review: I watched Final Fantasy in a small theatre about 3 days ago. Since I read the relatively bad reviews for the film, I didnt expect a huge turnout. Well, I was the only guy in the theatre. This is good in one way and bad in another. It was good due to the fact that I could sit in the theatre and watch the film without dealing with the typical loudmouthed movie crowd. I could pay more attention to the movie and the story itself. It was bad in that this film which deserves to make a whole lot of money, is not successful. I would recommend Final Fantasy to any fan of science fiction, video games, oh heck anyone! This is one of the all time best movies that I have ever seen. I was floored by the ability the filmmakers had to give a completely generated character emotion. These guys are making Gepetto flip over in his fairy tale grave! I was amazed at the depth of the story and the overall feel of the film. I am really impressed at the way the plot was similar to the series of games not by carrying on the same story over and over, but chronicling the adventures of new characters in new dimensions each time. Simply amazing!

Many thanks to Hironobu Sakaguchi and Square for making such wonderful stories and games. I give a hand to Alec Baldwin, Ming-Na, Steve Buscemi, Ving Rhames, Donald Sutherland, and all the filmmakers for making a film that I will cherish for a very long time.........just bring it to DVD QUICK!

Summary: A disgrace to the name of Final Fantasy...
Review: The above title says it all. This film was a disgrace to the name of Final Fantasy. No, it's not like the games, and I wasn't expecting it to be like them. It's a movie, and a bad one at that. The characters are so bland it's disgusting. Bad voice acting, you don't feel a single drop of feeling or connection to the characters as you do in EVERY Final Fantasy game. Incredibly cheesy romance that is 80 times worse than anything that was done in the games. Don't get me started on the just-as-cheesy 'jokes' they put in there which are designed to appeal to the idiot with an IQ of 78. The plot hjad potential, and was completely ruined by crappy and bland dialogue and, as I said, the cheesy jokes. Just sitting there in theatre made me want to stand up and yell "the games aren't like this, don't judge them by this crap!" The only redeeming quality of this movie is that it DOES have revolutionary and ground-breaking visuals. It's the first of it's kind in this type of movie-making. But this movie overall is so bad, that not even that can get my rating up to two stars. If you've never played the games, please don't see this, don't judge them by this. And if you have played them and haven't seen ths movie yet, don't give square any money for this, because after this colossal failure, they need a major wake-up call.

Summary: Loved it - both on story and visuals
Review: Being a very strong science fiction fan in terms of written and media, this comes across as five star material on several levels. Visually it is stunning. Story wise I enjoyed it a lot. It had all the elements of conflict and tragedy and mystical that I like in such an outing. I seem to see a dichotomy between those that are into SF and those that are not in terms of whether you like or dislike. For me, just seeing how Aki's hair moved had me captivated. This is definitely going into my DVD collection and is at the top of my list in that regard right behind Shrek and Planet of the Apes and ahead of Tomb Raider and way ahead of Pearl Harbor.
