Summary: Will Smith at his comedic best
Review: What a movie, that's all I can say. Will Smith is at his comedic best in this sci-fi movie that for about 10 seconds makes you actually think. This is a great no brainer movie to watch, so when you are ready to relax and watch a funny movie, watch MIB. Tommy Lee Jones is an unknown and non-existing agent for a non existent and unknown law enforcement/immigrations officer for illegal and legal aliens...Extra-terrestial aliens. At the end of this movie it has you looking at that guy down the street wondering if inside that humanoid body is a little alien with controls like a car. Will Smith is a NYPD detective with an attitude and a big head, but he is in for piece of humble pie as Jones takes him into his world!

Summary: Will ruins it
Review: The special effects in this movie are great. Most of the characters are interesting and entertaining. But why did one of them have to be played by Will Smith? If only the giant roach had succeeded in chomping him at the end of the film. Curse you Laura, for blasting the Bug! I hope some alien lays its eggs in your chest.

Summary: Nice DVD, lousy film...
Review: Perhaps more than any other film of '97, Men in Black insulted my intelligence. I think the film thought it was terribly clever, and that's what really bothered me about it. The plot is a simple A to B progression with no twists whatsoever. Every scene exists simply to set up one lame gag, however, the problem is that the gags (which are simply a goofy CGI shot followed by a Will Smith witticism(tm) or Vincent D'Ornfrio as a redneck Beetlejuice) are just NOT funny... at all... Speilberg produced this movie, which is odd, since the thing it most lacks is what he provides best : a sense of wonder.

The DVD has some great special features, but what's the point if the film included is nearly unwatchable in its garish loudness?

Summary: By golly, this a FUN movie!
Review: I am admitting here that I did not see this movie in the theater, and only recently rented it to watch on a small TV. However, even on a small screen without full-blown multi-track sound, I still loved it! This is a brilliantly executed movie, with clever dialogue, some wonderful story line, and great acting by Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith both. Jones is absolutely perfect at being the completely unflappable straight-laced professional dealing with the most bizarre things - space aliens, shape changers, tentacled aliens giving birth - and makes a great dramatic counterpart to Will Smith's very excellent acting of the freaked-out character seeing all the weirdness for the first time. This is a great, farcical romp with a lot of laugh-out-loud moments, some great special effects, and very clever alien design and situations (such as the scene in which Will Smith is in the background, helping an alien give birth in a car, and being bounced all over and thrown around by the alien's giant tentacle, while Jones is discussing space travel permissions with the male alien in the foreground of the scene). It's also a good film for the family, without sex and very little dirty language. I can see the kids loving this for the cool aliens, the surprise situations, much of the humor, and the over-the-top bad guy scene at the end. I would not hesitate at all to show this film to children.

The DVD is chock-full of goodies, too, including a very fun "edit your own scene" part. The commentary is quiet good, and the making of Men In Black is also very interesting and informative

This is a very, very fun movie for an evening of light-but-good entertainment, along the lines of Ghostbusters or Cannonball Run. It's not real high on a literary or artistic scale, though it is not inartistic - it's just not on a par with an Orson Welles film, or Howard's End, etc. It is also not quite a "watch it over-and-over" film that I would need to have on DVD - the novelty of the story, while I enjoyed it immensely, isn't quite riveting enough to watch it frequently, in the way that Ghostbusters is. I would be satisfied simply to have the cheaper video. However, the extras on the DVD make it absolutely worth the price if you are a big fan of this movie, or a fan of overloaded DVDs. I give it four stars for movie quality, and 5 stars for the overloaded features of the DVD.

Summary: Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith at their best!
Review: "Men in Black". When you first look at the cover of it and even hear the title, you would think that it would be a very scary and very violent movie. Well, anyway, that's what I thought. Until I finally watched it. And to tell you the truth, it wasn't as bad as I thought at all! Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith are great as 'the men in black', agents who watch over the population of aliens on the planet earth. This is a very funny movie with lots of great action scenes, too. Language might be a bit strong for younger kids but I'm sure teenagers and adults will love this movie as much as I did!

Summary: excellent film
Review: Tommy Lee Jones and Will Smith really did a good job in this film. This is one of the movies I counted the days until it was released on DVD. I liked everything about this movie. It was funny, it was dramatic and it was just plain fun. I worked with a guy who is from New York and he was amused because the building that serves as the entrance to the MIB headquarters is apparently truly a mystery. He told me that everyone wonders what the building is there for. So it seems to play on real life details that only someone who lived in New York could appreciate. But even without a "tour guide" from New York to interprete things like that this movie is just plain fun.

Summary: fun original sci fi movie
Review: great movie that is very original and has much action and aliens to satify ur needs.

Summary: Disappointing
Review: I'd give this movie 3 stars, but I gave Independence Day 3, so this deserves 2. Will Smith had a few good jokes, but they get old after repeated viewings. The special effects were good, but not stunning. The acting was mediocre, the plot not so great, and overall a failed attempt at a movie that could've been much better. Overall, something I would have given 4 stars when it was first released, but I'm forced to give it 2 now just because it gets old, and very quick. Good for a rental, and that's just about it, I'm afraid. But it did have potential, I'll give it that, and some interesting scenes, but not enough to carry this film.
