Rating: Summary: Oh geez.... Review: This film disgraces what the games have built. Final Fantasy looks like it is trying to copy the "Aliens" series with Sigourny Weaver. It has no traditional Final Fantasy story, and the guys who do the character designs (Tetsuya Nomura, Yoshitaka Amano) didn't even do the character designs for the film! And the composer for the game (Nobuo Uematsu) didn't do the music. The director of the game (Hironobu Sakaguchi) had little to do with the movie. It is like some team stole the title of a well respected video game series, slapped it on to a mediocre sci-fi thriller just so it can make a profit. Sure the video game series has gone on way too long and disgraced itself along the way, but the movie might as well kill it! Unfortunately the execs at Square are keeping the game series around because the games have gone so mainstream that everyone has played and owned a Final Fantasy game nowadays, and idiots will keep on buying the next ones that will come out (Hmm, next ones coming out are 10, 11, and 12, oh boy). Sure, I'll see the movie opening day, I don't think it is going to be good though. Hopefully the film suprises me, though I doubt it will.
Rating: Summary: It looks like FF8 Review: As was mentioned already, it looks like Final Fantasy 8 which, to most of the people I know, is a Bad Thing. I'm disappointed that they're going with a future/sci-fi setting instead of a Fantasy type world. I don't think that there has been a decent fantasy movie made since Willow-- I was hoping that this would change things. If they do everything right there is still a good chance that this film will be (wrongly) lumped together with other 'summer blockbuster' ... and largely ignored. I wish they would have just made Final Fantasy 6 or 7 into a movie =) Oh well... we'll see, I'm not getting my hopes up. At least they didn't do live action + CGI... that just makes me sick... I also hope that they take advantage of the medium of animation and bend reality (great spells/monsters/gods/etc) instead of trying to make things 'real' like some modern animation. After FF8, I'm not sure what to expect (good, bad) when I pick up a FF game... Again, we'll see.
Rating: Summary: Final Fantasy Nuf Said Review: This movie will be Final Fantasy at its finest hour. First of all most of the games for Final Fantasy are a Story Making a great storyline should be no probalem but as all final fantasy games differ from the others this one will be different in that the movie will not be as magically influencial as the next and if any game it is closest to it would be final fantasy 8. The Games are good so the Movie should be just as good!)
Rating: Summary: Brilliant Marketing = Powerful Prerelease Interest Review: While it's not the most equitable metric to evaluate an upcoming movie, trailers and marketing campaigns have become more and more important in generating interest in a movie before its premiere. With the visually stunning trailer for Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within, the bar has definitely been raised; in fact, I am so impressed by the quality of the trailer that I'd be willing to preorder the DVD of this movie now, weeks before it is released in theaters. Amazon.com, please convey to the studios and distribution channels that this sort of quality is precisely what works. Further, making the DVD and VHS releases of movies available for presale even earlier would be a great idea. That being said, the trailer for this movie is outstanding. While maintaining the requisite mystery of a not-yet-released movie, it still reveals just enough of the story to tantalize and intrigue.
Rating: Summary: Final Fantasy is not a title Review: ok any true final fantasy fan will understand this. Final Fantasy is not a game title, it's a technique. Final Fantasy is a series with standereds we have become accustomed to. a good example is FF8. it's true that a lot of fans were disapointed with it because it wasn't as good as the others, but if it had been your first FF game you played then you would have been very impresed. we can't base the movie on the games because movies and games are two diffirent Categories. the fact that it is titled "Final Fantasy" just means that it is going to be a fantasy movie that has the same basis as the game series. but square is known for it's great taste in games so i am assuming based on how good the company and producers are that it will be an excellent movie. (and there will be no bad actours in it to screw it up hehe)
Rating: Summary: With a story based on the basics Review: I have read the script, watched all of the trailers, and seen the interviews. This is going to be a much better movie than anyone suspects. Not only is it amazing squaresoft-be-proud graphics, but an amazing storyline that puts emotions before actions and makes the viewer a part of it in a way that, even, the games never could. This will turn people onto video-games and might even shift the balance between the X-box and the PSX2!
Rating: Summary: Excellent artistic work Review: First, the movie should be judged on its own merits, completely separate from the game. From a story perspective, it's good, and from a technical perspective, and 3d modeling, it's a masterpiece. I am just amazed by the details, and the tedious work that was involved in making the movie. Good job to all the artists that probably poured months into modeling and rendering this movie!
Rating: Summary: Before you jump to conclusions...... Review: Final Fantasy is just that, fantasy. Every story line for every game is different. Sci-fi is a fantasy world. I give it 4 stars for daring to exist while people claim it will be awful because it is based on a game. First and foremost, it is loosely based on the game. You will not see Kefka, Sephiroth, Cloud, Zidane, or any other Final Fantasy game characters in this movie. They are not there. As the Final Fantasy games are each different from one another, the movie will be different as well. The graphics that I have seen are simply amazing (Shrek, eat your heart out), but that does not make a story. I trust that SquareSoft will have a storyline that does justice to the name "Final Fantasy" I will see this movie, and I will wait to do a "true" review of this movie until after that time. After all, you can't judge a book by it's cover, and something that may seem uninteresting to you may be wonderful to someone else.
Rating: Summary: Final Fantasy? Review: Right now, I can't say this movie is living up to my expectations. Based on the trailers I've seen and the plot backgrounds I've read, this is not Final Fantasy. While this movie looks ok in it's own right, it does not have anything similar to the series other than it's name. Yes, there IS an old man named Sid in this movie, but it doesn't even use the REAL logo! While Final Fantasy is a series to explore new ground and never re-uses the same setting (other than keeping a few traditions, like Chocobo, for example), this looks like a totally sci-fi movie and appears to limit itself to science. However, this is just a first glance. This movie may live up to the legacy from which it is based and bring us another epic worthy of the title Final Fantasy. But so far, I'm saying that other than stunning CG and an ok sci-fi setting, I'm sadly not seeing another masterpiece
Rating: Summary: most longed movie for 4 years Review: I've waited for this movie for about 4 years, since I read an article in the PSM magazine about this movie. They said that it would come out in 2000, that's the only reason why it went by so quick, but it's coming out in a MONTH!!!!! I'm going to be the first person in the line at the theatre. I saw the trailer and it looks magnificent. The computer graphics in the movie are breathtaking. Can't wait till it comes out.
