Summary: The dream is not caught...
Review: It;s hard to say wither this was supposed to be an X-Files type picture or a military drama. No matter. As someone noted, it is gory, vulger, and has no script to it at all. It desereved to be roasted by both critics and the public alike.

Summary: He " Duddit!! " King Cult Classic written all over it!
Review: I missed the King novel, so when I bought the movie I really did not know it was a King story. But as I started watching it, I said this is like STAND BY ME meets ALIENS. Should have been a clue since most of King's ideas are derivative from old Twilight Zones and 50s horror movies, that his time he rippled off himself and merged that with Aliens and came out with a "New" not so new idea. That said, I went in without reading King's book, so I judged the movie solely on the movie, so I don't have that colouring my reactions. First off, I like King, but I do not like EVERYTHING he does. So for me to REALLY like this movie tells you something...maybe hehehe. This is not original. It's the Stand by Me Gang being nice and rescuing Dougie - "Duddit", from the school bullies who were torturing him. The five of them remain close all their lives - and Duddit changes them so they can read each others thoughts and one can wiggle his finger and find missing things. Cut to a night when Duddit is going home and he walks into traffic and get hits. Six months later, the fab four are at the "hole in the wall" their cabin in the hills. It's snowing and something very stranger (not so strange if you saw John Hurt giving birth! in Alien) is happening to people in the small mountain community. From that point on, it's our pack of pals against the worm creatures and a crazed Morgan Freeman, head of para-military group from the government who has been fighting the alien invasion for last 20 years - Gee same time as Duddit and the Pals have been bonded. Nothing fresh, yet at the same time it's rather imaginative. So if you liked Stand by Men, the Dark Half and Aliens, get out the blender and enjoy this wild ride! It will keep you on the edge of the set. It works. Likely one of the better King films and sure to gain Cult Status with fun lines and fast pace.

Summary: Heed the Warnings
Review: DreamCatcher is one of the worst movies I've ever seen. As a longtime Stephen King fan, I ignored the warnings. Fortunately, I didn't have to pay to see this dog! It is the most vulgar/graphic movie I have ever seen. Obviously it is made for the 8-12 yr. old set, as only they can appreciate flatulence, belching, gaping [...] wounds, slime, blood, guts and the sheer tastelessness of the movie. Should you actually persevere to the end, it turns very cartoonish and explains very little. A much better alien film, with suspense, is John Carpenter's "The Thing"

Review: This movie was awful. I spent only 48 minutes into the movie
and decided to quickly shut it off. The dialog did not make sense and they never really explained much throughout the 48 minutes. Do not rent or buy this movie. You will be wasting your money and time.

Four men, Dr. Henry Devilin (Thomas Jane), Joe 'Beaver' Clarenden (Jason Lee), Gary 'Jonesy' Jones (Damian Lewis), and Pete Walker (Timothy Olyphant), have become lifelong friends, in part as the result of an encounter they had with a mentally challenged boy their age when they were teenagers. They saved Douglas 'Duddits' Cavell (old - Donnie Wahlberg; young - Andrew Robb) from the torments of some older boys and, as a result of their friendship, Duddits endowed them with special powers. The friends, as a tradition, head to a remote cabin in the late winter for a reprieve from their daily lives. But their pleasant winter retreat quickly dissolves into chaos when an alien species, that uses humans as hosts, crash-lands a ship in the vicinity. The four men eventually come head-to-head with the aliens, two quickly losing the battle. But with the help of their gifts and eventually Duddits himself, the remaining two friends are able to assist the military personnel in charge of containing the invasion and stop one alien in particular from infecting the entire human race. I should note that there is a sub-plot involving Col. Abraham Curtis (Morgan Freeman) and Lt. Owen (Tom Sizemore), two of the military personnel, but it is peripheral to the main story. Comments:
I wasn't really sure where the movie was going when it started and the time spent introducing the special gifts of all of the friends was a bit painstaking as the main storyline didn't get very far while this was taking place. But once the aliens and the friends came into contact, the story picked up. So, be prepared to wait a while for the story to develop. The story itself is decent, but there is obviously a lot missing from the movie that is likely included in the book (I haven't read the book, so I can't say; but I do own it and it's massive). I'm thinking there is probably quite a bit of information concerning the back stories of the aliens and their previous invasion attempts as well as the development of Col. Curtis's insanity. There is also probably a longer introduction to the special abilities of the friends. All of these elements are only briefly addressed in the movie and giving them more depth would definitely have lent credibility to what was going on. As it stands, the story is pretty coincidental and the characters are shallow. The acting is decent. I was fairly impressed with Damian Lewis's ability to jump between personas and the rest of the cast was convincing, but there were to many characters and there wasn't really enough time to develop each one. Also, it seems as though Thomas Jane's character is supposed to be the protagonist in the movie, but he doesn't get all of the screen time a protagonist is normally allotted. I kept wondering who the hero was going to turn out to be. so you know, it's him. Overall, the movie does kind of pull you in after a while as you want to see what happens with the aliens (though it isn't particularly surprising). Also, be prepared for a somewhat predictable and anti-climactic ending; there aren't many surprises here, though two of the friends do end up dying. The DVD does also include a 'making of' featurette and an interview with Stephen King, both of which were informative. Though I enjoyed the movie, it isn't really one that is going to stick with me. It's definitely worth watching if you are into sci-fi or Stephen King, but don't be expecting something spectacular as it is really just a slightly above average movie.

Summary: From someone who never read the original Stephen King Story
Review: This movie tries (unsuccessfully) to reproduce some of the best moments in Stand By Me, but the results are laughably atrocious. Still, I was all prepared to give it 2 stars, but then one of those "what were they thinking" moments happen. One of the characters picks up a gun, holds it like a phone, and says "Jonsey! I knew you would call!" ESP or not, that scene alone signaled the beginning of a mildly bad movie taking sharp turn into Crapsville. Most of the positive reviews found here are from people who have read the book, and can't help but bring that experience to their reviews. As a person who never read the book, and is reviewing the movie on it's own merits, I find it terrible.

Summary: A Decent Movie
Review: I thought Dreamcatcher was a decent movie, well worth the 15.00 i got it for, also goes into my stephen king collection. I thought the movie was good for what it was...i would have very much like to have seen the characters, especially the friends fleshed out a whole lot more than what they were...when the guy in the glasses died, i thought "I think i'm supposed to care here, but i really don't"...the characters needed a whole lot more depth. Also the relationship between Mr. Grey and dudditts needed to be given a whole lot more as well...the movie kept hinting at a relationship between the two..and you never really know...even when it ends really what it was. I won't say anymore on that point to save the movie for those that haven't seen it.
I however did think the premise/story was very good, one of the best parts in the movie for me atleast was when the animals all started running away...that was just freaky. Grizzlies, stag deer, rabbits, squirells, all kind of wildlife running away, and you had no clue about why.
I Do think this movie should have been longer, and maybe it should have even been a made for tv miniseries, to give it enough time to flesh out everything, and make you actually care about the friends and whats going on.
In my opinion, they should take everyone that made "Storm of the Century" and put them on each and every new Stephen King movie that comes out, they in my opinion have done the best Job thus far.
This might sound like a negative review, but it's far from that...it is a decent movie, i just wanted more of what was already there, though it's good for what it is...though nothing spectacular. Summary: Good Lord this movie is awful.
Review: I can not get you far enough away from this movie. Made the mistake of renting it on DVD and feel cheated out of $3.95 and the 2.5 hours of my life that I will never get back. I cringed at the dialogue throughout this movie. The acting was horrible. The delivery of lines was forced. The editing (or lack there of) was bad. The transitions between scenes were a laugh. Morgan Freeman's performance in particular was ridiculous and over the top. There was absolutely no suspense. Zero character development. You find yourself not caring about any of the characters and just hoping that they all die quickly to bring the movie to a swift end. No such luck. I sat for 2+ hours waiting for something to get better or to realize that I was missing out on something. I wasn't and you won't be either. Skip this movie. Rent Alien instead.
