Summary: Horrible!, but not because it's scary
Review: I Love Morgan Freeman's work in the past, and I have to admit that was the main reason why I rented this DVD, and it also had Tom Sizemore (Heat, Saving Private Ryan)and it was directed by Lawrence Kasdan, a respectable director. When I read the syntaxis on the back cover of the DVD it seemed interesting, so I rented it. What a mistake, I put trough people farting and burping, aliens coming out of peoples butts, Morgan Freeman's overacting (and his eyebrows), ridiculous scenes, yes I saw all that up to the moment when one of the four psychics used a gun as a cell phone to communicate with Duddits, a gun that John Wayne (YES, JOHN WAYNE!) gave to Freeman's character as a gift.
That moment I turned the DVD off, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to do some things that day and I didn't do them because I stayed seeing that movie. Please I beg you, don't waste 2+ hours of your life seeing this fiasco of a movie.
To end my review I have to say that this movie will never become a cult classic because it doesn't fit those standards. It's simply a horrible pretencious movie.

Summary: Dreamcatcher, catches a nightmare
Review: I'm a huge fan of anything Stephan King, that being said I'm embarassed for him for having put his name on this movie. I've read the book and this movie is a huge disappointment. This movie has none of the depth or character developement of the book. You don't get a sense of the friendships, why they work, how or why they've lasted this long. The intorduction of the binding facgor of these friendships (the man child they saved a pre-teens)was sloppy at best, and pretentious at worst.

If you haven't read the book then you might fine this movie (and I use the term losely) entertaining. But I highly doubt it.

Summary: typical Stephen King- odd, entertaining, somewhat repulsive
Review: i love Stephen King stories, as they tend to be odd, and I depend on him for that and this is typical Stephen King.

The movie is the story of several young boys, and it flips back and forth between there youth of about age say 12 or so, and the same boys at about 25 to 30 years of age. At times it reminded me of Stand By Me, whereas the bond formed bewteen these boys is central to the story line.

You witness several typical experiences of their youth, and much of it is told as flashback storytelling when they are older. The storytelling takes place in a cabin in the mountains where the men retreat to once a year to keep the bond alive between them. During the flashback storytelling of their youth another character is introduced, i believe his name was Duddits, and he was the a retarded boy at school whom the boys had found being bullied by some of the school pranksters. They run off the pranksters and a friendship is formed between the boys and Duddits.

During this particular retreat some event happens in the woods and strange things start to happen. As these guys start to deal with the crisis occuring, we are given more information in flasghback form of strange phenomena occuring in their youth.

The guys soon find themselves dealing with a very strange situation and their connections developed throughout childhood becomes central to their struggle through the rest of the story.

I thought the movie was very very good, has a subtle twist, and the usual Stephen King odd tone to it. Although its not Kings best, its a quality movie, and good story, and it does deliver all the things i look for from King. Several moments of graphic violence, certain inner demons each of the characters seems to be fighting, and the internal and external struggles are brought to conclusion by the event at hand, and are tied to things that happened in their youth. I liked it, very good story...not the greatest movie ever...but certainly not the worst....i give it 4 stars because it delivers everything i expected from it and cant think of anything i would change about it.....go watch it, its worth the time and money

Summary: No suspense, blood & guts in this movie;not much else either
Review: If you are interested in watching Dreamcatcher because it's a horror film or want to watch a scary movie, then you may find this review helpful.

Here are the details about the horror content only.

SUSPENSE/SURPRISE FACTOR: 1 star! Dreamcatcher hardly has any dramatic scenes in which the viewer is invited into the movie and is slowly led to meet something threatening ----- that is, to scare the bee-jezus out of you. Such scenes I speak about are typically found in the movies such as Scream or Jaws. Relatively, the suspense/surprise factor is best captured in the movie, The Ring.
I only remembered one suspenseful scene in Dreamcatcher. However, this scence was excellent and hence the only memorable one; it was the bloody bathroom scene! Two men find a trail of blood in their cabin which leads from their bedroom to the bathroom. Behind the locked door is an old, sickly man with diarrhea. Of course, when the two men break into the door, they find the man sitting on the toilet with his pants down and our monster swimming within the porcelain.

So is this movie scary? No, but you may get freaked out for 5 minutes TOTAL.

BLOOD AND GUTS FACTOR: 1 star. You see trails of blood, but you will not find any moderate gory scenes. In Dreamcatcher, many people are bitten by a snake/leech-like creature. But that's all it is... a love bite. You don't see any blood gushing out of anyone. The final scene of the movie shows a larger leechlike alien explode. Unfortunately, you will find any blood squirting or peices of flesh flying into the air. Instead you see a red cloud (think red-colored baby powder) that slowly fills the air and dissipates.
As a fair comparison, the mouthparts of the snake/leechlike creature is very similar to the mouthparts of the newly spawned vampires found in Blade 2. But unlike Dreamcatcher, when the monsters in Blade 2 bite their victims, you will see blood gushing out of the victims. Additionally, the decapitations and other scenes found in Final Destination 2 is a bloody fun 4 stars. The movie House of 1,000 Corpses (which I personally do not recommend) is ultra gory and receives the ultimate 5 stars for blood and guts.

I choose not to go into the other aspects of the film (e.g. originality, acting, action, plot, special effects, science fiction aspects, the ending) because other reviewers have gone into depth about explaining these aspects and I wholeheartedly agree with these reviewers, particularly those who have rated this movie 3 stars or less. Although there are some mediocre and good aspects of the movie such as the quality of music, the overwhelmingly poor aspects of the film make Dreamcatcher a movie that you can live happily without watching.

Horror factor: 1 star relative to other horror films, particularly to those I previously described.

Movie Overall: 2.5 stars.

Summary: what in the h*ll??????
Review: Is this movie about and what I did not understand was what aliens had to do with indian dreamcatchers??? The movie starts out well but about 45 minutes into it loses its focus and plot and everything else.......My fiance and I could not even finish the movie, King should have focused more on a different plot line without aliens, and been more involved with the childhood friends and their little "odd" friend. The past scenes with them as kids was the only really entertaining thing about this movie and I wish there had been more like the story in the movie with the evil clown (cant remember the name). This movie was awful.

Summary: Starts Strong, but ends weak
Review: I am Stephen King fan, as many today are. But, I will say that my imagination while reading this book, far exceeds the movie I saw; as is the case when we read a book before we see it on the film. It was like a long distance race without any endurance. It starts out strong. The main characters were great. And like most Stephen King characters, they had their own little quirks that made them interresting. The movie is running along smoothly, until things start to get bogged down by some bad acting by one of the best actors today, Mogan Freeman. The ending, was awful. Now that this movie is on VHS/DVD I would recommend renting it, but I'm not sure I'd recommend actually buying it.

Summary: Nothing special here, move along
Review: Many things in the movie do not connect. A lot of things in the beginning have absolutely nothing to do with the outcome at the end. If you're going to place events in a movie, then place them there for a reason!

The story is done in a way that tries to make the movie special, but it turns out to be just another "Invasion of the Body Snatchers" type of movie. This is good to watch one time, but after that you won't want to watch it over and over again. Spend your money on something else.

Summary: Uh...
Review: The movie has promise for the first 40 minutes, all the way until Rick craps the... whatever the hell that thing was?! The moment was tense, the plot was there, the potential had built, and then... laughter erupted, and the movie was over. The one thing I noticed most about this movie was everyone was rather accepting about what was going on. Oh hey look hundreads of animals are running out of the woods, ya know this stuff happenes. OR, hey some guy just died on the can and now something wants out of the toilet, but i could really use a toothpick?! but hey were cool, no prob i'll just get some duct tape, and maybe a mop and this situation is as good as fixed... how about the frikin gun you just had in your hands about 10 minutes ago?! Or the renegade commander... bad cadet now i shoot your hand with the gun i got from JOhn wayne (the duke, What!??!?), haha(i'm crazy , now give me some candy) I didn't read the novel, so I can't say anything about Mr. King having anything to do with this movie, but in most cases three to three point five hours would allowed for some better development. I had to read the reviews after the movie because I though I might have missed something or was picking my nose for too long... i don't know. however reading the reviews was worth the price of the rental. I still think I missed something. SSDM (Same S#@% Different Movie: AHHH HAHA get it, OK I'm done)

OK OK in all seriousness the movie had potential until, well then it just diddn't

-That guy from band of brother does an superb job on his part, as in he actually gives the character some depth.
-Morgan Freemen, hmmm, well, yeah
-I dont know, I;m stumped
_"Support the system" rent it just cause (you know you have the money)
-Two stars, why not

Summary: evil slips through
Review: a great stepehn king book brought to life with some scenes that keep this movie from being a mastepiece movie. 4 friends go to theur winter cabin for the weekend, they hunt and stuff. Jonesy(Damian Lewis), Beaver(Jason Lee), Pete(Timothy Olyphant) and Henry(Thomnas Jane) are plunged into a nightmare of alien worm like creatures and blood and gore and aliens possession. they also have the militray going around trying to stop this from going crazy, the military is led by Kurtz(Morgan Freeman) and Owen(Tom Sizmore). Jonesy is possessed by an alien named Mr. Gray. Beaver is killed in the bathroom. Pete is stranded by Henry who is captured by the military and Henry and Owen team up to try to stop Mr. Gray(Jonesy possessed) from killing all of humanity. plus the friends have special powers like finding lost items, reading minds and a lot of other schtick. Freeman is in a crazy ass role. plus where the aliens come out isnt pretty. not for the squeamish

Summary: I HAPPENED TO LIKE IT!
Review: Na na na na na na!!! Just kidding of course. Maybe I watched a different movie than our other critics; maybe I was in an extremely good mood, or maybe I don't have taste anymore?? Anyway, I found DREAMCATCHER to deliver just what I wanted: superb, eerie direction by Lawrence Kasdan; a commendable script translation by Kasdan and William Goldman; some beautifully filmed snow scenes; eerie and stunning special effects; and some wonderfully nuanced performances. I will admit Morgan Freeman's eyebrows were a little too "there", and he was more wooden than I would have expected. Maybe playing a villain isn't in his forte anymore. I also enjoyed the score by the dependable James Newton Howard. Translating such a mammoth novel into a movie is never easy and though it may seem the movie is a little too long, I still found myself engrossed. In fact, the scene in the bathroom with Jason Lee desperately trying to get a clean toothpick and the subsequent results is one of the tensest scenes I've encountered since "Aliens". As far as box office goes, didn't both "The Matrix 2" and "Charlie's Angels 2" have significant drops in their second weeks too? Hmmm..anyway, Thomas Jane, Lee, Timothy Olyphant and the hereto unknown Damian Lewis were superb; Tom Sizemore was adequate.
I liked it; it entertained me; and I wasn't the least bit bored.
I RECOMMEND IT. IT'S MOVIES, FOLKS!
