Summary: 5.1 Is the first reason to buy this title.
Review: This is my favorite movie of all time. I've invested alot of money in the audio of my home intertainment center, so I won't buy anything without out a 5.1 conversion. If the movie I'm interested in is a low budget movie. then 2.0 is exceptable.

Summary: Great movie
Review: If you distill the essences of paranoia and clausterphobia and made a film, The Thing would be it. A nail biter from start to finish. John Carpenter's creepy music makes the film.

Summary: Watch the original 1951 version.
Review: I remember when I first watched the original version when I was about five years old. My brother and I both came off the couch several times in the course of the film, so when I heard that a re-make of the movie was going to hit the Silver Screen again, I was first in line. Needless to say all the suspense of the 1951 version was gone, being replaced by special effects in the form of a multitude of transforming creatures. Get the original version, it does come in a colorized addition and watch a true classic.

Summary: One of the best if not THE best scary film ever.
Review: The Thing was one of the best if not THE best scary film I have ever seen. The first time I saw it, it was on cable when I was home alone, late at night. It made my palms sweat and my stomache churn. Even now, seventeen years later, I cringe at certain spots. I introduced it to my kids and even now at 14 and 17 they think it is one of the all time greats.

Summary: The Greatest Monster Movie in History
Review: John Carpenter has always been a director of many talents, bringing forth some of the most creative and scary films ever to grace the screen, like Halloween, In The Mouth Of Madness, The Fog, and Christine. But he broke the mold when he made The Thing, and the result is probably the greatest monster movie in history. Sure Jaws was great, and so was Alien, but The Thing blows them all away. It's about a twelve-man research team that unwittingly takes in an alien organism that has been frozen in the ice for over 100,000 years. As if things couldn't be worse, this alien can shape-shift and "abosorbs" its victims, so no one in the camp quite knows who is real and who is "the thing." Rob Bottin's special effects for the film are probably its ground-breaking acheivement, for it was the first movie with a really gross-looking monster, and the monster effects still look great even today. Ennio Morricone's chilling score, Dean Cundey's beautiful photography, and John Llyod's incredible sets all help cotribute to the eerie mood of the picture. Not only that, but the cast does a great job, and as far as I'm concerned, Carpenter was at the peak of his skills when he made this film. It was rather dissapointing to find out that it didn't do that well at the box office, but at least it can have a nice long afterlife on DVD, and since it is a special edition, it's worth every penny. With an outstanding 80-minute documentary, deleted scenes, the thetrical trailer, and various production notes, The Thing is just about the best DVD you can buy on the markey now. So, I don't know what else I can say except run out and buy this wonderful film.

Summary: wow
Review: This is the first movie I saw on DVD that had taken full advantage of the format. No question about it. The movie has never sounded better or looked so good. If only all DVD's were so well done. Take Outland for instance, starring Sean Connery. I actually gave that away. When you know what the capabilities are, expectations are high. If they ever release Star Wars for instance, that had better be the best yet. The Thing sets the bar pretty darn high though. Fantastic!

Summary: This is a DVD triumph!
Review: This DVD is a fine example of how brilliant this format is - the transfer of this film is beautiful. The extras are some of the best on any DVD. The audio commentary by john Carpenter and Kurt Russell is amazingly detailed and wonderfully interesting - it's as if these guys are in your living room chatting about this movie! This is the best DVD in my collection! Don't ponder - buy it!

Summary: ATTENTION: IDIOT IN LIVERPOOL
Review: You have obviously never watched THE THING otherwise you would be raving about it. For one thing this is one of Carpenter's best films. If you don't like Carpenter's films then you most likely don't like to think too hard while watching a movie. I would suggest that you watch MEN IN BLACK and let the wind blow between your ears.
