Summary: A powerful, brooding sci-fi MASTERPIECE!
Review: John Carpenter, the great mind behind Halloween, Assault On Precinct 13, and Dark Star, ventures into a claustrophobic world of paranoia and icy terror with THE THING. Set in the wastelands of Antarctica, a secluded research team is beseiged by a faceless, shapeshifting entity. The creature gradually assimilates the dwindling crew into its power in scene after gruesome scene. You'll flinch plenty while watching this one. What makes it so great is it's ability to make you consider the nature of humanity and human awareness while providing you with one of the eeriest atmospheres ever put on film.

Summary: Famous last words- That alien can't get any worse than this!
Review: I watch alot of movies, I like alot of movies. I have never been so grossed OUT! The dog scene in the beginning was bad enough seeing it's head expload and 8 legs crawling out and a fountain of blood, but your smashing yourself in the back of your chair every time this alien life-form appears. 'Geez! This is gross! It can't get any worse!' you think, but you get a creepier suprise everytime. "The Thing" is extremly suspenful, gore-fest and plain gross! This movie IS NOT out-dated! My mom saw this when she was a teen and she was grossed. When we watched the movie on TV again, (about un-cut) she was more grossed than I. The special effects are exellent, very suspenful and very good plot, it always keeps you on the edge of your seat.

Review: i'm 44 i saw this movie when it first came out, and i can't believe how this movie still holds up. a true classic. some what underatted, it still stands the test of time. it just keeps goin baby.

Review: This is a great movie. Much better than the original. I love the special effects! If you love gore and science fiction you will love this. The extra features are excellent. Commentary by Kurt Russell and John Carpenter is entertaining also. This sound and picture is much better also.

Review: This film scared the heck out of me when I was a kid, and it still scares the heck out of me. Thats all I can say about this movie. Its not great cinema, but it is great entertainment.

Review: This DVD is a first rate production in every respect. The film is Carpenter's best, and is beginning to be seen as a classic and the film comes loaded with quality extras. The commentary track is excellent as well - Kurt Russell and John Carpenter are loose and relaxed, and full of stories and one liners. To top it off it's even reasonably priced for a special edition. Anyone who considers themselves a fan of this film and owns a DVD player should own it!

Summary: Arguably Carpenter's finest hour.
Review: This gooey-ooey horror/science fiction hybrid is arguably John Carpenter's best film. An isolated American Weather Research Outpost in Antartica gets caught in the final crossfire of what they discover has been a battle to the death between a neighboring Norwegian Outpost and a hostile alien organism, one that can absorb and perfectly imitate any lifeform on Earth. Too late they uncover clues that one or two of them may not be the humans they once were. The battle begins anew as a six month long night falls and a violent storm (constantly heard howling and moaning in the background) closes in. Carpenter's nihilist leanings have never been more focused than in this, his first big studio film. His story of humanity cracking (as opposed to coming together) under pressure from a destructive threat make for seat squirming suspense. Rob Bottin's stunning make-up and alien designs (still brilliant to this day) add visual symbolic punch to the humanity torn apart by its own fears allegory (dig the alien's phobia inspired manifestations). Kurt Russell makes for a fine reluctant hero who flat out refuses to loose, even when he does. Grim and disturbing, reviled by fans and critics upon its initial release (the scars of which still sting Carpenter to this day), The Thing is a classic that only gets richer with repeated viewings. Do yourself a favor, see it in the widescreen for full effect. An essential thriller.

Summary: John Carpenter's finest hour
Review: John Carpenter's version of The Thing is a suspenseful, horrific, chilling film. Intelligently written, with astounding special effects and an atmospheric score, it is one of the best sci-fi/horror films of the 1980s. The quality of the film alone is reason enough to buy The Thing on DVD. Add to that the bonus material, and it is a must-have. The 80 minute long documentary on the making of the film, featuring interviews with many of the cast and crew, is informative, revealing, and entertaining. It offers an intimate, stage-by-stage behind-the-scenes look at the film, from conception straight through to its release and its enduring legacy. If you have enjoyed this film, then I definitely recommend purchasing the DVD. It is well worth it.

Summary: Absolute Classic
Review: About 2 years ago I turned on to see the last 20 minutes of a movie that captivated me. I found it to be the most interesting movie I had ever seen. I love Sci/Fi movies and this was mind blowing to me. Sadly, I never caught the name of the film. Luckily, I recently made a trip to Blockbuster and the movie caught my eye. I looked on the back of the boz to discover a frozen picture of Kurt Russel. I had finally found the movie I was looking for and let me tell you that the whole movie is just as good as the last 20. The movie has the total package. Great Performances by Kurt Russel, Wilford Brimley and Keith David(who is great in everything he does I think hes very underrated). Great FX which were the top of the line when the movie was made. Very odd score which I thought fit very well with a movie thats very odd. The story is amazing and its wonderful how everyone is paranoid and nobody can trust anybody. This is an amazing movie that messes with your head. The DVD also comes with alot of extra goodies for you to enjoy. BUY THIS MOVIE ASAP. YOU'LL LOVE IT
