Summary: Something is Missing
Review: This spoof of the alien invasion, sci-fi movies has a great cast and the right idea, but something is missing. I think it comes up a little short in the humor department with its rather predictable situations and jokes. It could use a bit more imagination and artisticism, because it looks quite a bit like the stuff it is trying to spoof.

Summary: a must-see, star-studded, Sci-fi spoof
Review: Only the mind of Tim Burton can deliver actors Jack Nicholson, Annette Bening, Glenn Close, Sylvia Sydney, Danny Devito, Pierce Brosnan, Natalie Portman, Michael J. Fox and other famous faces in tandem with classic brain-head aliens wearing speedos!

An interesting mix of 50's themes - donut stands, bomb shelters and pipe-smoking presidential advisors in conjunction w/ modern themes such as pyramids in Vegas and the Hubble telescope.

This tongue-in-cheek spoof on classic sci-fi is a cross between "Plan 9 From Outer Space" and "Independence Day." Great special effects, great costumes, hilarious scenes. There are a number of scenes that can double you over in laughter as well as intellectual laughs through-out... the kind that make you smile and say, "now -that- is funny!" I can't say much more without spoiling this flick, but if you like classic sci-fi or even if you don't and you just like a good comedy w/ some brains, this is it.

Summary: Why Does Everyone Hate This Movie?
Review: This truely is a funny movie, and a great comedy at that. I actually wanted to give it 4 1/2 stars but I rounded it up to 5. This film has a great cast; and everyone is fine in it. Is this Tim Burton's best film?- no way. My personal favorites are the wonderful Batman and the visually spectacular Sleepy Hollow. I would definitely recommend this film to anyone who is a fan of 50's sci-fi like I am; or in that case, to anyone who is a fan of MST3K (Mystery Science Theater 3000), again like I am.

Summary: maybe good for 5 year old kids
Review: O.k. it is supposed to make fun of 'Independence day' but wasn't 'I.d.' enough? The cast can't save it and neither can the special effects. Two stars for the production, which could have been better allocated to a different movie.

Summary: I liked it and I don't care who knows!
Review: When I first saw this movie I thought it was so funny! My friends thought it was a stupid movie, but I did not care about them. I liked this because it sort of reminded me of "Ed Wood". And as for all you people who hated you did not get the joke! see this movie now!

Summary: If you didn't like it, then, you didn't get the joke!
Review: Sure, "Men in Black" grossed more money, but Tim Burton's "Mars Attacks!" is a more enjoyable film. It has wit and a loving tongue-in-cheek attitude in spoofing those great old monsters-from-space flicks of the 1950's. From the opening invasion with its loud Danny Elfman score to the invading Martians making mincemeat of our nation's capital, this flick blasts onto the screen with the force of a thousand interplanetary craft.

The cast, headed by Jack Nicholson and Glenn Close must have had a great time in making this movie because they emerse themselves in their larger-than-life roles. Any film that features Jim Brown, Pam Grier, Tom Jones, and the voice of Slim Whitman is surely to be appreciated for its "off-the-wallness." Only the mind of Tim Burton could have achieved this cinematic oddity.

Sure, he might not ever win an Academy Award, but Mr. Burton makes movies the way he wants. He is an innovator and a brilliant storyteller. We, the moviegoing audience are the better for it!

Summary: Worst Movie?
Review: For all the people who say this is the "worst movie EVER!" should take a moment and watch the movies that Mars Attacks is spoofing. Spend a day watching old reruns of Mystery Science Theater 3000 and you'll see what I mean.

But the argument can go both ways though. Burton seemed to cram too much stuff in this one. There's a lot going on here, not all good, but not the "worst ever" by a long shot.

Those of you who are fans of Tim Burton will love it. As will fans of MST3K and cheesy 50's sci-fi movies.

In the world of Tim Burton it is not the best he's done (I'll save that review for Sleepy Hollow). Elfman's music is almost formulaic by now, but still fun. The acting is very plastic and 2-d but check out the acting in just about any Roger Corman film and you'll see the inspiration. Some of the violence is gross, but again look at the inspiration.

It's a fun film, worthy of cult status down the road. It won't rack up any big name awards, or make any best of all time awards. But sometimes you just have to have fun.

And no way you could put it in the same review as Star Wars I... Phantom Menace was much worse...

Summary: This is a great movie!
Review: To say that this movie is not funny is not looking at the entire picture. This movie is a spoof. Tim Burton has his own (and great) since of humor. He portrays a president that is very easy going and wants to be the friend to all, the army general who thinks you should shoot first and ask questions later, the sleazy aid, and all of the bickering etc. that congress does already. This is Mr. Burton using his dark humor throughout. A must see, but look at it through a dark lense and you will truly see the great movie that it is.
