Summary: Yes, it's funny. No, it's not. Yes, it is. No, ...
Review: Yes, it's true. I'm conflicted. I can't decide. Me, the guy with an opinion about everything. Me, the guy who never met an issue he couldn't be self-righteously correct about. The guy who derides political moderates as wishy-washy sheep holding their fingers up to the winds of public opinion. The guy who... well, you get the picture.

I can't decide whether to like this movie or not.

Granted, parts of it are very, VERY funny. I particularly like the sound of the aliens -- had I seen this in the theater instead of at home, I suspect the ride from the movie house would have been filled with the sounds of me and my friends trying to imitate the brash, nasal "Wah, wah, wah" of the Martian ambassador. I laughed everytime I heard the aliens broadcast to fleeing humans, "Don't run! We are your friends," (all while blasting away at their "friends") or "We come in peace," just before new carnage begins.

This is a strange, twisted movie, like every other Tim Burton movie. It is worth a look. You may love it, as many of the other reviewers (and certain warped cousins of mine) did. You may hate it and shut it off halfway through.

Or you may be like me, and not know what to think. But like me, you'll be glad you saw it once.

Or not.

Summary: A fall down, pound on the floor laugh riot!!!
Review: A highly irresistable and entertaining throwback to the paranoia/sci-fi/disaster films of the 1950's, only this time peppered with a wickedly dirty sense of humor.

Based on the Topps trading card collection, this movie's title pretty much says it all. Grotesque, green skinned martians invade our planet, incinerating everything they come across. Yes, the classic ray guns and flying saucers are all here. The special effects are nothing short of astounding!

If you've seen any one of Tim Burton's other films, you already know he has a flair for the bizarre. This film is certainly no exception. The well researched, uproarious script does work, despite what you may have heard, and the cast members are all fun to watch.

You should find this, if anything, more than just a little amusing. DO NOT MISS IT!

Summary: Loved it!
Review: First of all, this movie was so much better than INDEPENDENCE DAY. It was comical and gory at the same time! The colrs are great; done the Tim Burton way. Great movie to sit down and enjoy with a great big bag of buttered popcorn and and a case of soda.

Summary: Yuck! Phooey!
Review: What a bizarre and campy sci-fi scare flick with some real morbidity thrown in! So do you think I would really find humor in victims getting slowly turned into brightly colored skeletons by those hideous invaders with their death rays and their families ended up bawling at their funeral - even if they happen to be trailer-dwelling rednecks??? And think severed fingers, hands, and heads are really funny at all? One amusing moment, however is when some big-wigged bimbo goes prancing into some guy's house to seduce him with a few grisly scenes thrown in. Not to worry, though - such ugly creatures with those bulging eyeballs and pulsating brains eventually get just their desserts after a whole reign of inducing death and terror on the poor innocent humans, however cartoon-like they may be. A real wacko circus show for the sci-fi ape, nevertheless!

Summary: An interesting funny special effects film.
Review: Tim Burton has giving great CGI animation and effects, making of one of his most entertaining film also. The movie was underrated, went it came out and was failure at the box office in the winter of 1996. Maybe because of that another alien blockbuster-Independance Day was the No.1 film moneymakers from 2oth Century Fox. They both have the same budget $75 Million and ID4 special effects was impressive but in some ways(Most of the Time) the CGI effects are cheap looking but is not the worse special effects movie, i`ve seen so far. The alien from Mars Attacks! are greater, the animation CGI effects are outstanding and the martians are extremely funny, also they got great weapon to destory the humans. At least in the film, the aliens are in action in earth getting out of thier spaceships and running after the humans. In ID4 all the way the picture, the martians, they just destorying the planet and barely get to alien in action expect most of the time, in thier spaceships only. One of the most amusing animation effects shot was Sarah Jessica Parker(HBO hit show`s Sex and the City) head on the body of a little dog! and the film has a good cast, including Jack Nicholson(The Shining), Glenn Close(Fatal Attraction), Annette Bening(American Beauty), Pierce Brosnan(The Thomas Crown Affair), Jim Brown(The Running Man), Lukas Haas(Witness), Martin Short(Innerspace), Rod Steiger(The Amityville Horror), Sylvia Sidney(Beetlejuice), Pam Grier(Jackie Brown), Natalie Portman(The Professional), Micheal J. Fox(Back to the Future Series) , Tom Jones(A professional top real-life signer plays himself), Danny De Vito(Ruthless People) and a whole lot actors to come. A real treal for People, who`s like special effects movies and Burton Fans. Danny Elfman music score is extraordinary(Like all his another films scores.)

DVD has excellent quality picture, both on Pan&Scan and an anmorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 format(The only Burton picture, filmed in Panavision Scope) and Great sound in Dolby Digital Soundtrack. An isolated 5.1 Score from Elfman. An masterpiece on CGI effects. Grade:A-.

Summary: Tim Burton goes over the edge
Review: Very camppy film based on the B-UFO movies of the 1950's. Burton shows us his more bizzare style of film making as this movie is about as bizzare a film as I have ever seen. The actors looked like they had fun making this movie. Mars Attacks was actually better then the Matrix, and the X-Files film put together, Way to Go Tim.

Summary: a great unconventional movie
Review: The first time I saw this movie, I thought it was a big dissappointment. Then I started to think about it. Usually, when I dislike something for no reason that I can really put my finger on, it is because it has challenged my expectations in some way. For this reason, I like to re-examine my feelings about those things. And often, after reflection, I realize what it is that disturbs me, and I realize why the thing that I hate addresses that, and often it makes me enjoy the thing I "Hated" more.

This movie is like that. One of the things that bothered me so much was the lack of reason for the alien attack, and their resulting brutality. A little after I watched the movie, I found out why this is so, while reading a book "Lies My Teacher Told Me," which related the following tale concerning Columbus:

In 1492, Colomubus landed in what is now the Dominican Republic. He got off of the boat, and read a short proclimation that said (essentially,) "I am taking this place over, you must now immediatly renounce your pagan gods, convert to Christianity, claim Isabella of Spain as your ruler, or I will make you slaves, and you will work until you die, and I will not be held responsible for your souls." Columbus read this proclimation in Spanish, which of course, none of the native people of the Dominican Republic could understand. They greeted him with a huge party, and Columbus proceeded to decimate the natives. The Spaniards forced the Indians to work, and rode on their backs rather than walk from place to place. Does this not strike you as ridiculous? The same kind of mindless destruction for the sake of destruction that the movie portrays?

What disturbed me about the movie was it's quiet censure of our society, our modern world, our own arrogance. In this movie we get our comeuppance, and it is delivered with the same heartless passion that our uncivilized ancestors imposed on the indigenous populations. There is no why or how, there is only the relentless onslaught of a technologically superior race that finds glee in our destruction, who no doubt, intend to usurp our world.

In the War of the Worlds, we are saved by Influenza, in real life, Influenza and small pox, brought by Euroopeans, decimated indigenous populations. Wells original parallel was intended to be a subtle irony, a tribute to our tiniest, and most unobtrusive weapon.

Here we are saved by Slim Whitman's "Indian Love Call," an outrageous twist, but not one without it's irony. Whitman wrote the song as an appeal to the romanticization of the American Indian that occurred in the late 50's. It bears no real ties to native american lore or tradition, other than it's name. It is a romantic view of a past that never happened, our "plasticization" of the very people we've killed. Isn't it odd that we would be saved by a cheesy lounge song written about a people we killed with smallpox and war, while we are being decimated with no hope of survival, in much the same manner? Its doubly ironic that something so insidious, both in sound, and concept, should turn out to be invariably fatal to our invaders. Our bad taste killed them.

I might suggest to those that are easily angered when their expectations of an "Independance Day" style romp are foiled, that they examine their dissappointment and ask themselves, "why did this bother me so much?" When you do, you'll often find that you are being challenged to think or look at a thing in another light by your brain, which is often smarter than you might think.

Summary: A too expensive spoof of low buget fare
Review: Let me get this straight, first Tim Burton makes a film about Ed Wood, and now he wants to be him.Now I know this is a spoof, but it's a spoof of something that is usually funnier in the original versions.

You see,the conceit here is that if you put big time stars in a movie that is knowingly bad and you put state of the art(but knowingly cheesy)effects in it,it'll be seen as just a bunch of great actors slumming but having a good time.

Nice try but Burton misses the piont. If the makers of the original 50's Sci-fi oldies had the money to get good actors, writers, directors, effects, and so on,there would be nothing to saterize or pay homage to.The glory of these films is that even with the extreme lack of talent most of them had, they are entertaining in spite of themselves. All the badness can make a film go to a level of fun that no one could have intended.

I've given the movie 3 stars for the effects alone.they are cheesy, but state of the art. They really deliver.Watching stars like Jack Nicholson(in 3 roles no less),Danny Devito,Micheal J Fox,and a whole slew of others(Rod Stieger anyone?)go through these ridiculous, predictable paces is a real waste. If your into special effects it might be interesting,if not watch an old AIP Roger Corman flick.it'll be funnier.

Summary: An unfunny comedy
Review: There are few things more disappointing than an unfunny comedy.

I didn't laugh even once during this movie. Believe me, I tried to find humor in it, but not once did I find myslef chuckling. I was tempted to leave, but I kept staying in the hope that it would get better. It never did.
