Summary: 1958 Monster Classic
Review: I'll give this a 3. It's held up well and still can put you on the edge of your seat at times but don't expect to be blown away by it. It's one of the best of the cheesy 50's monster films but it's still a cheesy 50's monster film.

Summary: "Blob" is the best movie ever!!
Review: At first, I was wary of "Blob." I thought it would be a cheesy horror/sci-fi movie with low-budget special effects. Of course I was right, but that's what made this movie so great. I believe everyone should see "Blob" as a requirement to pass high school.

Summary: Steve McQueen Cool!
Review: Steve McQueen presence made this film worth watching. A good science fiction movie about innocent teenages trying to convince the grownups of an alien substance with the ability to absorb anything and everything in it't path. Special effects good. The blob is a classic film and it even has a "cute" musical introduction. So "Beware of the Blob".

Summary: Steve McQueen thriller!
Review: This is a great sci-fi thriller from the late 50's. A mysterious metor crashes to earth from outer space near an old man's home. When he ventures out to investigate, he learns more about his discovery than he'd care to. The blob absorbs living creatures and grows with the consumption of each victim. A group of high school kids discover the creature, but will anyone believe them before it's too late? This one is a classic and much better than the remake.

Summary: YUCKY, GOEY STUFF!
Review: THE SPECIAL AFFECTS ARE VERY STUPID BUT I QUESS IN THOSE DAYS THEY WERE GREAT! THE MOVIE IS VERY UNREALISTIC AND THE BLOB LOOKS LIKE GAK! END

Summary: Beware Of The Blob DVD!
Review: "The Blob" is a very entertaining, sci-fi thriller. I especially like the jazzy theme song. Steve McQueen has a strong screen presence in his first starring role. However, since he was born in 1930 and "The Blob" was made in 1958, that makes him too old to convincingly play a high school teenager. Similarly, his girlfriend and buddies look like a bunch of clean cut twenty-somethings, rather than a gang of high-spirited high schoolers. The special effects are laughable by today's standards, although that lends the movie a certain cheesy charm. However, I don't feel that the Criterion Collection DVD version of this movie is worth the extra money. Yes, the enhanced picture and sound quality far exceeds the previous DVD release. It includes the standard theatrical trailer, 2 audio commentaries, a small booklet and a poster. However, the "BLOB-abilia" section - a series of pictures, posters and props, including a photo of the blob - was a major disappointment. The feeling I had after watching everything was that I did NOT get my money's worth.

Summary: My favorite horror flick.
Review: This review is for the Criterion Collection DVD edition of the film

This film needs no introduction. Terence "Steve" McQueen's first starring role remains one of his best.

A meteorite lands in the woods releasing a viscous substance that absorbs living things and gets bigger each time it does so. Some local teens attempt to convince the police what is happening while rescuing the town.

The acting is really good too.

I like this film even more as it was made entirely within 20 miles from my home. The locations where the movie was filmed attract many tourists. The movie theater featured in the film even holds an annual Blobfest every July attended by the cast and crew.

The director Irvin Yeaworth directed several sci-fi films to learn how to direct better. He has since done hundreds of religious short films. Assistant Producer Russell Doughten went on to direct the apocalyptic "Thief in the night" films which are based on the Biblical book of Revelation. As a Christian, this film remains special to me, being directed by another Christian.

The DVD has several special features including a slideshow of production stills, a theatrical trailer, and a foldout poster.
There are also two audio commentaries which are very impressive.

The first is by producer Jack Harris and film historian Bruce Eder who has done much work with the Criterion Collection. The commentary mentions several events about the production and the untimely death of Steve McQueen They also mention his stay in a Mexican clinic in an attempt to cure his cancer with a controversial drug derived from fruit seeds which is banned in the US as quackery. They also mention Steve asking Billy Graham to visit him in the clinic to pray for him.

The second Commentary is by Director Irvin Yeaworth Jr. and actor Tony Fields.
In this commentary, Yeaworth talks much about his desire to make relgious films and gives further production information.

This DVD is one of the really good ones and it is a film that one should not miss.

Summary: Creepy Blob!
Review: When I was a kid in the 70's I remember The Blob being shown on TV a lot and I used to watch it with my family though I remember really getting scared by the Blob. The other night I watched this movie again for the first time in years and though not as scary as when I was a kid I still found myself getting spooked by the scenes that scared me when I was a kid though I really enjoyed watching this movie and seeing Steve McQueen in his first leading roll in a movie and he plays a teenager named Steve and I also enjoyed seeing Aneta Corseaut in the movie playing his girlfriend Jane as the only other roll I ever saw her play was Helen Crump in The Andy Griffith Show and I think this is a good movie and I recommend it! It had been along time since I last saw this movie and I still found the Blob creature creepy!

Summary: cheezy
Review: I was really disappointed when I got this today. The label looked like it was something you'd get from some black market DVD salesman at a flea market. Also the picture quality leaves much to be desired.
As one of the other posters said. I would expect better quality of something being sold by Amazon.
