Review: I know Discworld. And always enjoyed it. So when I heard this movie was at AMAZON, I couldn't believe it. I begged, pleaded, droped to my knees, asking mom if I could have it. SHE SAID YES! WOO-HOOOOOOO! Anyway, I watched it. But my VCR was screwed up, and didn't understand ther 3rd video. So I watched it again downstairs with my sister... And I was laughing so hard, I nearly fell of the couch. The cast is great (Well, Magrat's voice was just... BLAH!). No one can play Granny Weatherwax better than good ol' Annette Crosby. But now for the downside: The ending. What was the deal Verence II went in Magrat's house? But I loved this movie. I never read Harry Potter, due to Discworld. AND I'M PROUD OF IT! So... This movie gets 5 stars. Truly original!

Summary: A great radio play, with a couple of pictures
Review: I liked the performances, except sometimes Magrat was played a bit too young-sounding (nothing funny about a naive 14-year-old). They caught the flavour of the book very well.The animation is as bad as stated in many of these reviews---I'd rate the images about one step up from Rankin-Bass' "Hobbit", and the motion badly done for the most part (and the {PhotoShop filter}-like transitions and effects just plain irritating). Fortunately, someday the audio track can be married to a better rendering---perhaps with Leggos, if well-done those might be better....

Summary: I loved this adaptation
Review: I was waiting so patiently, or not so patiently depending on who you talked to for this set. I love the voices that were picked for the characters, but the animation was a typical English animation (kind of clunky, but enough to get the story done). If you're a Disc fan, You'll really enjoy this.

Review: I'm a HUGE Pratchett fan, own all the Discworld books, but this is just dreadful stuff. Poor drawing, poor animation, poor voice work, uninteresting music. Too bad, really. I bought both this and Soul Music, and wish I hadn't!

Summary: Like watching the book
Review: I'm not up on the book as much as I should be, I guess. But I really enjoyed that I was watching Pratchett on TV. It gives me validation, since it feels like I'm the only American who reads him or drives around with a "DSCWRLD" license plate! EEk! Its been years, but it seems to follow the story as I remember it pretty well. The graphics are fine with me. Not the best, but not the worst. Totally Brittish and masculine interpretation!
Esme Weatherwax, Nanny Ogg and Magrat are out to save the day.
Don't remember how---something about a baby and a castle and a joker. Its good. Anything with the "wyrd sisters" in it is good.
My 8 year old daughter liked it too. So its an easy story to follow.

Summary: You've read the books - now see the cartoon
Review: I've been putting off buying the Pratchett cartoons, since I was apprehensive that the images wouldn't match my own personal images of the characters.
I was also worried that the process of transferring print to screen would lose a lot of the subtlety of the original.
I needn't have worried.
Very enjoyable indeed.
Were the characters as I imagined them? Not all, No. Did it matter? Not really.
I found to my delight that the makers of the cartoon had taken the trouble to immerse themselves in the books, and hence were able to throw in the occasional allusion (for the diehard fans) and to edit the narrative without any loss of enjoyment.
Strongly recommended.
Soul Music is even better.

Summary: Discworld Brought to Life
Review: I've loved Terry Pratchett's Discworld from the first words of The Colour of Magic and his delightful description of the luggage. I will admit that the voice they gave Magrat is grating on the nerves and the animation could have been a bit better. Honestly, I think the only three characters they got right on were Granny Weatherwax, Death and Verence (the fool).
But to see the book brought so wonderfully to life, so many little things they retained, and they didn't cheat on the spell! I adore it. This may not be for the 'perfectionists who think they are Number One Pratchett Fans', but for the rest of us poor mortals, it's absolutely endearing.

Review: If you've read "Wyrd Sisters," the book, then this DVD will be both more enjoyable and redundant. The animation is horrible, and the voices are too cartoony at times. If you've read the book, then you'll understand what's going on, but if you haven't, you'll be confused about a number of things. In short, skip the DVD and read the book.

Summary: Discworld goes "DVDworld"!
Review: If you've read my review for the VHS version, you'll notice I loved the movie. Sure, the animation looks as if it was done in a basement (figure of speach), but the story is good. I also wrote Magrat ain't all pretty. Well, her nose was big, her voice was annoying, and what about the gap in her teeth?!? What I didn't like about the DVD version, is that there was NO commentaries! And you know how it's kinda hard to make out what they're syaing? I was hoping for an English subtitle to read it and understand, but NOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! No subtitles. But this DVD is fantastic. With a glitch. When Magrat is out in the castle gate acting like an appleseller, the animation freezes, for a minute or two. Anyway, here it is: GOODIES: Same as my review in the VHS one. BADDIES:Not a single commentary; glitch; no subtitles in a DVD movie that screams for at least one. FINAL GRADE: A+ Ps. I wish they'd start with Colour of Magic!

Summary: Disappointing!
Review: In all honesty, I didn't watch this movie through completely. I couldn't. It was just too painful. I've read Pratchett's Discworld novels for years and was thrilled to see that they had adapted one of his stories to animation. The transition from words to action was poorly executed, however. None of the subtleties of his humor come across in the cartoon. Nor was I prepared for the choice of animation. This type of cartooning is far inferior to that which can be seen on television's Saturday morning lineup. Save your money and buy the books.
