Rating: 5 stars
Summary: best Sci-Fi movie of the year
Review: With AC3 the subwoofer felt and sounded terrific The best value on features I have seen on DVD. Tempo, trama, actors, sound actions and visuals are amazingly woven, this movie has it all, I rate this movie well above episode 1, though image definition is a bit lower.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Good movie, but not great.
Review: 1. Special effects = 10 points 2. Keanu's performans = 5 points 3. Screen player = 8 points

Summary: Great film. Only a few minor flaws
Review: Okay, great special effects. Great action. Great story. Decent acting. You can read all of this in the other reviews. It is a no brainer that if you like any of the above qualities, you will probably like this movie.

I have a few minor complaints, though. First of all, Keanu didn't quite pull off the kung fu thing. Yes he tried hard, which is one of the things I like about Keanu: he always tries hard and often takes on roles that are a bit of a stretch for him (John Harker in Dracula, for instance). But he just wasn't convincing. He is a great action star (no one could have been better in Point Break), but casting him in a kung fu role is akin to casting Charles Bronson in a ballet role.

My second complaint, and I have seen this reiterated in some of the other reviews, is that the movie tried to be philosophical, but it really wasn't. It had a few pithy quotes, but it only scratched the surface of what they could have done with a film like this. Perhaps they were afraid of alienating the action movie fans by making it too deep, but I say "go for the depth."

Complaint three has to do with the agents. Here you have virtual beings that integrate perfectly with the Matrix. They could take over any person in the Matrix, they could perform amazing feats by bending the Matrix to their will, so why couldn't they shoot guns for beans? They couldn't hit the broad side of a barn from the inside with a shotgun!!! Someone needs to rewrite that program.

Lastly, Joe Pantolino (sp?) was grossly miscast in this film. I have liked Joe as an actor every since he played Guido in Risky Business. He is a good and likeable supporting actor, but he just doesn't fit in the cyberpunk arena. The filmmakers could have done just as well putting Zsa Zsa Gabor in that role. Sorry, Joe. That wasn't a cut. You just don't fit in that picture. Bill Paxton would have been a good substitute.

Other than those minor flaws, the movie was excellent and enjoyable. The special effects blew me away, especially after I learned that so many of them were relatively low-tech. The "Making of.." feature on this DVD is an enlightening ride, as is the commentary. If you haven't seen this film, but think it looks remotely interesting, get it. The good far outweighs the bad.

Summary: A Must Have For All
Review: Giving this movie just five stars just doesn't do it its justice. It should be given at least ten. This movie takes all of the others in the past that explored the same idea and blows them completely out of the water. This movie will be a classic for ages to come. The special effects of this movie were fantastic, and to think that they even had to invent new ways to film just so that they could get the right shots. It kind of makes a person feel good knowing that they have seen the best movie of the century.

Summary: Story + Effects - Hype = The Matrix
Review: The Matrix is THE sci-fi film of 1999. I loved everything about this film and cannot fault it. The Wachowski brother have raised the bar for this genre taking the best of east and west film techniques and given us a taste of the future.

This is how it should be done!

Summary: A Must See
Review: I am not a Reeves fan but this is by far his best work. SciFi has been lacking somewhat here lately but the concept and originality of this movie make it a welcome addition. Fishburn is outstanding, the rest of the cast are good but the special affects make the difference. If your a SciFi fan but are tired of the same old stories (time travel, alien invasions, Star Trek or any other concept that has been thouroghly run into the ground) then this is a must see movie.

Summary: The concepts behind this film are mindblowing! GREAT JOB!
Review: I saw this film HEAPS of times at the theatre, and could watch it over and over again - the last film I had this type of hype for was the orginal Highlander with Christopher Lambert!! Right from the moment The Matrix starts, you've had it - you're engrossed! Great concept, great actors, real great SOUND/music and great special effects!! I have recommended this film to tonnes of people! You can tell from my email address that I am a sucker for The Matrix!

Summary: Widescreen does not work for me
Review: I have a 32 inch TV and the aspect ratio for this movie on this size screen is just silly. There must be 8 inches of black on top and bottom of the picture. Although it does maintian the original scope of the movie it is not pleasant to watch a foot of movie when the VHS version is full screen. Although the DVD has some neat toys this movie needs to be seen large. A 1.85 to1 ratio would have been OK but a dual format release was the real ticket. Buy the video in December

Summary: The best SCFI ever - I don't think so!
Review: Don't get me wrong, I like The Matrix. I just beleive it's been highly overated. Keanu is as wooden as ever, the plot is super thin and it's all too ultra sleek to be totally involing. But it's great entertainment - just very forgetable.

Summary: Sexy Morpheous
Review: I think that the movie was great! Morpheous was my favorite character (but I am a big fan of his anyway). He was so sexy I wanted to rip him off the screen. This movie is the best I have seen in a long time and I do not know anyone who thought it was a bad movie. Especially the special effects were the best. I recommend this movie to anyone.
