Summary: A ultraviolent hi-tech futuristic action thriller.
Review: Probably Verhoeven's best film, this has something for everyone. There's lot's of action{and violence},plus great acting from Allen and Weller.I've only seen the VHS version, but it was still really, really good.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: violence at its best
Review: I saw this movie when I was seven years old and have liked it ever since.I'm a big fan of violent movies such as this and other Verhoeven movies.

Summary: Robocop....
Review: This was one of the first DVD's I bought. I also purachsed "The Killer" and "Hard Boiled" in the criterion Collection. The extra footage was great and the commentary was very good. The other extras were kinda worthless, especially the tgext magazine article. The violent footage was very good, and actualy made the film, despite what was said in another comment, it is not tame by any standards. i must warn though, you have to be a fan of this film to buy the DVD, it's a cult thing...

Summary: The most ELECTRIFYING movie in Sci-Fi Entertainment
Review: This movie is Electrifying, although the violence is tamed to today standards, but what do you expect from an 80's flick.

Robocop was my first SuperHero in the movies and one of a kind. I used to watch the movie everyday when i was a little kid. Untill I messed it up

Get the movie, you have 20 secounds to comply.

Summary: Great movie, good DVD, all in all "Pretty neat"
Review: Sure there a slew of cyborg movies, but none of them have the heart that Verhoeven's RoboCop has. It is for me, about the triumph of human spirit over technology and big buisness. What kept me from giving this five stars, was that the transfer wasnt all that great, and the audio was only in 4 channel digital surround, not AC3 like the box says. However what I did love about this DVD was the audio commentary by Verhoeven. I find my self now enjoying on two different levels, one just for carnage and fun, and the other on a more philosophical level. Verhoeven goes into the Christ/RoboCop metephor thoroughly, a great extra if you enjoy a filmakers insight.

Summary: THIS MOVIE KICKS
Review: The extra footage is unbeliveabley violent . You wont believe your eyes as you watch ed 209 rip into that unsuspecting sap in the board meeting or watch officer murphy get slaughtered both scenes have been "re"editied for the new version Id buy that for a dollar or fourty

Summary: Not for all tastes, but specifically brilliant.
Review: Robocop is a leading contender in the "Most violent movie ever made" sweepstakes. With that warning in mind, those who are still willing to indulge (and those who can stomach the gore) will find a bleakly funny, savage, snorting sci-fi behemoth which represents, along with Total Recall, Paul Verhoeven's filmmaking peak. (And now on to Basic Instinct and Showgirls...)

I've done a comparison of the screenplay to this one and the final product. My verdict is that Verhoeven really pushed the right buttons in the changes he made. The Clarence/Robocop showdown is excellently filmed and staged, the characterization on the money (Nancy Allen's tough lady cop and Peter Weller's arrow-straight family man turned metal giant are well matched). Don't forget the humour as well: "I'd buy that for a dollar"; ED-209's humiliating blunders; Kurtwood Smith's gleeful sleaze.

But it's longtime Verhoeven favourite Ronny Cox who impressed me the most in this and Total Recall. He finds the complexities in his villain roles, never quite lapsing into megalomania even when he's shouting and making villainous threats, finding the human motivations behind the worst of villains.

Excellent set design, special effects and dialogue round off this apocalyptic late-'80s masterpiece. Make yourself a cast-iron stomach, take a deep breath and dive in.

Summary: Robocop with additional footage-what more could you ask for?
Review: This was a great movie the first time I saw it. This Criterion Collection "Director's Cut" is even better- gorrier and more comic bookish. I don't see why it wasn't origonally released this way. Well, actually I do. . .because I listened to the very interesting commentary by the director and producer provided. Like I said before, "What More Could You Ask For?" Go get this.

Summary: Modern Frankenstein
Review: When I bought the DVD it was the first time I had watched the film for a couple of years. Even though its meant to feature extra violence I found that the film was nowhere near as violent as I remembered it to be. Either I am used to the film or the level of violence in modern films is fast overtaking RoboCop.

The film itself remains an excellent movie, surpassing many of the "hit of the year" SF movies such as "Independence Day". This film gets better with viewing and I still find myself routing for Bob Morton. The Old Man's line, "I'm very disappointed" is still funny.

This new version of the Frankenstein tale focuses much more on the monster although perhaps humanity represents Frankenstein. It retains its humour and thrills.

On another note, the features are quite good, agreeably few for the price but still a good buy. I found the transfer to be excellent and I am now wondering if there is a lottery with DVD - some are good transfers, some bad. There is no pixellation/artifacting that I can see. RoboVision is meant to be "of a lesser quality" in order to indicate that we are seeing what RoboCop is seeing.

All in all a good film, a good DVD transfer, and a reasonable package all round.
