Summary: Robocop is the best Sci-Fi Movie ever made.
Review: This movie is so good, it's about a cop that was murdered by a gang and takes revenge on them after getting turned into ROBOCOP. The Criterion Collection has the Director's Cut which shows a few more violent bits, as when Murhphy's arm gets shot off and a few more shots of him getting blown away and the director's cut shows two different camera shots in two scenes ,1)The scene where Murphy shoots bobby in the leg, the camera is zoomed in and 2)The scene where Clarence gets stabbed in the neck, the camera is zoomed in to his face for a few seconds. The most violent bit is probably the scene where Kenny gets blown away by ED-209 in the beginning. The Criterion Collection also has two trailers, the theatrical trailer has "The Terminator" theme in the background for some odd reason and Robocop 2's theatrical trailer has the original Robocop theme in the background(Robocop 2 trailer is not on Criterion Collection). The Criterion Collection has 3 storyboards, one is a film-storyboard of Kenny getting blown away and the other two are unshot sequences(one is a cemetary scene and other is chase scene). It also features an illustrated essay on making of Robocop and great Audio Commentary by some of the makers of Robocop including the director. I'll give Robocop the director's cut a NC-17 rating but I'm 15 and it probably wouldn't qualify for an X rating. This movie is the best Sci-Fi movie ever made. It has a good plot and a violent theme about revenge which makes this movie so good and makes it even better than "The Terminator". The Criterion Collection of Robocop is a great DVD to buy if you're a Robocop fan or a Sci-Fi fan. 10 out of 10.

Summary: Biting sci-fi satire
Review: I see RoboCop as one of the truly great sci-fi films--a mix of cool technology, a dystopian future, a basic hero myth, and a thought-provoking commentary. Some people see The Terminator and RoboCop as two sides of the same coin; I'd say RoboCop is the mechanical monster movie with more of a satirical bent--and that's all to the credit of the smart script. Buried beneath Verhoeven's more-is-more filmmaking philosophy are simultaneous man vs. self and man vs. machine battles--but beneath THAT is a scathing social commentary on a future filled with media overexposure and consumerist overload. What a shame the limp sequels ditched the very premise (Man or machine? Human or product? If you take a brain out of the person, can you take the person out of the brain? Or, uh, something like that) that make RoboCop such a genre standout.

Summary: Criterion Collection Rocks!
Review: I was one of the lucky few that was able to purchase. What a great purchase it was! This DVD has it all. Teaser trailer, Theatrical Trailer, extensive storyboard commentary, a huge production notes write up which is one of the most impressive I have ever seen on a DVD and the full uncut version of the film which I think is a masterful display of genius special effects and sadly missed moments that should not have been cut from the film. You simply have to see the movie to understand why because I think the MPAA is just a bunch of bureaucratic c*cksuckers. Excellent sound and picture quality! Outstanding DVD interactive menus and an overall great package. This DVD is a keeper! Get lucky and buy yours now!

Summary: A sadistic vision of the future
Review: Hailed by Ken Russell as the "greatest science fiction film since 'Metropolis'", "Robocop", a modern sci-fi classic, is a tale of a heavily injured cop who is reconstructed into a cyborg by science, and who avenges himself on the criminals who attempted to murder him. The satire of the future is dark and gleeful (with an excellent script by Edward Neumier and Michael Miner) and the film is directed with great ingenuity and flair by Paul Verhoeven (to whose credit are also "Basic Instinct" and "Starship Troopers"). It spawned two inferior sequels (both which lack the wit and flamboyance of the original) and an abysmal TV series aimed at a young audience.

Review: This is one of the best movies ever made, and DVD just made it whole lot better. The picture and sound is awesome! This is a must buy. The only thing this DVD lacks is the Captions, but don't let that stop you from purchasing it.

Summary: The original and best Robocop
Review: Murphy (Peter Weller) is a cop who just got transferred to a new police station to start work. He gets killed while he's doing his job, so he is subject to a new invention, the cop of the future, Robocop. Robocop is a huge cyborg who was programmed to: 1. Serve the public trust. 2. Uphold the law. 3. Protect the innocent. In other words, he was programmed to carry out the law the right way, but if it comes to it, he won't wait too long to kill a criminal. A major crime wave is sweeping through Detroit, and it's up to Robocop to try and clean things up the best he can."Robocop" in my book is a sci-fi classic and one of the best action movies of the 80s. It has a good plot, good acting by Peter Weller as Robocop, and it has some good special effects such as when one of the criminals lingers in some toxic waste a little too long. But "Robocop" isn't just an action movie the whole way through, there's also a few funny parts to it. Scattered here and there in the movie are some funny commercials, such as one where a cannon from outer space shot down on earth and killed some people. I recommend "Robocop" to anybody who likes great action or sci-fi movies. If you like "Robocop," I also recommend getting "Robocop 2" because it's a good sequel, but I'd recommend skipping "Robocop 3."

Summary: A farcical movie with tamed violence.
Review: It seems very few readers have read my recent robo review. Paul Verhoeven's "Robocop" may have been strong medicine during its initial release(1987) but nowadays it can be seen as a soft movie. It contains zilch sex, few gratuitous random breast shots, occasional substance abuse, but geez I just can't abide all those reviewers who feel that the violence was too over-the-top, and thus felt Verhoeven had no confidence in the script. The script is nothing really special anyway. "Robocop" is NOT that violent, okay. It's just another run-of-the-mill action thriller with not-so-nifty special fx and even worse violence. Verhoeven's "Basic Instinct" is much better also. I watched it last night, and it featured way more sex and violence. The only thing that turned me off was Michael Douglas's irritating presence. Not since "The Bad Lieutenant" has there ever been a cop that mean, ugly, masochistic, and foulmouthed. However, Sharon Stone was in it, and that alone overcompensated all its flaws. For now, I'd just like to speak out against those critics who feel "Robocop" is worse than it actually is. Most people feel it is an exceptional action flick with lots of action(and violence), nifty fx, great storyline and all-around actors. However, I think the movie sucks on most levels, and the violence is arguably tamed by contemporary standards. I don't care about what others think. Watch "Basic Instinct" instead, a far more extravagant production.

Review: All i have to say about this film is that it's great and extremely violent,it's way better than the terminator series,it's full of action,blood and futuristic dark inviroments and dark violent humour,if you love gory films you gotta see this one for sure.

Summary: "What are your Prime Directives?"
Review: RoboCop is one of those very rare movies that really is as good as you remember. Peter Weller is a tough cop, Murphy, who transfers to a down-trodden Old Detroit of the future. Shortly after arriving, he gets trapped by a group of sadistic thugs who proceed to kill him - slowly - by shooting him to death. Murphy is then transformed into 'Robocop', a prototype half-man/half-machine cop programmed to help clear up Old Detroit. The film does contain alot of violence (especially in the Criterion version which restores all 'excessive-violence' trimmed by the MPAA), but is genuinely exciting and entertaining to watch. The visuals are stunning, the acting is strong across all characters and Verhoeven actually manages to lift the film above its basic action/thriller stance, with moments of genuine emotional conflict and confusion for the characters. The Criterion edition of this film is superb - the only way you'll probably get to see the full Director's cut of RoboCop. The quality of both picture and sound are typically excellent, given the film was made 13 years ago (it really doesn't seem that long ago, does it?) and audio commentaries are fascinating. If you're even thinking of buying RoboCop, do not hesitate - buy this copy on DVD now! You won't be disappointed!
