Summary: I got pretty much what I expected
Review: When I put this movie on at the video store where I work, I wasn't expecting a something penned by William Shakespear or directed by Orson Welles. I knew that this was a big budget remake of a bunch of B movies that have a cult following due to the laughs driven from bad special effects. Before anyone sees this movie, they must accept what it is. Don't expect a masterpiece of modern cinema. This is Hollywood doing what only Hollywood can do. The plot isn't too bad. The actors... well, the special effects are the real star of the movie. Matthew Broderick (who I have liked in other movies) just isn't the action hero type... and here he plays a very smart scientist. I really had to exercise my suspension of disbelief here! He still looks and acts like Ferris Bueller. I kept wondering when the principal was going to start looking for him and become Godzilla's dinner. The special effects are awesome. And Godzilla's babies are so cool. But the characters in the movie, which I think is a standard in monster movies, are really stupid. They were scared humans would become extinct & Godzilla would start a whole new race of species. I was rooting for the Big Lizard because he was the only one with a brain! I kept hoping he'd kill Matthew Broderick... I won't tell you who wins at the end. Not that that's a real shocker. No, this is not art. But it is fun. The plot has a been there--done that quality to it but it's big... and it somehow manages to be fresh. It certainly puts every old Godzilla movie I've seen to shame!

Summary: It has it's ups and downs.
Review: One of the best films of 1998. It has great special effects and is action packed. The classic Godzilla will always be my favorite.

Summary: Great movie
Review: One of the greatest action pack movies I have ever seen

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Plot is a failure, actors need help, good special effects
Review: After hearing that Godzilla was a big disappointment, I was hesitant to watch it. The plot is timeworn, and in some places, slightly ridiculous; some of the actors are so stiff, you want to slap them; and you wonder how the army can keep missing such a large creature. I cringed as the city was destroyed, wondering how many people were financially ruined for life. The ending was disappointing. How many movies have ended this way? Surely, at least once, we could get it right so that the bad thing/guy/being doesn't return. The special effects were excellent, and Reno managed to neither overact nor underact his part--he was a pleasure to watch. If you want to see a movie with more to offer than good special effects and one good actor, skip Godzilla. (P.S.--my husband says he loves it; but then, he likes lots of action, really doesn't care about plot, and loved the special effects. If you don't care about plot, love special effects and destructive action, you will like Godzilla.)

Summary: A lot of Noise - A lot of FUN!
Review: I was almost discouraged by the bad reviews which was certainly an effect of the the very large (surely bigger than Godzilla...!) campaign. BUT it was all put to shame. A great FUN movie with excellent quality. Of course it is not realistic to have Godzilla running around the subway under Manhattan but who cares? The whole idea of a supermosnter is pretty weird anyway, isn't it? Picture is first rate and the sound even better in Dolby Digital. When Godzilla walks around he makes our furniture walk around too! Reference quality stuff. PS My wife actually liked it too. Best Regards Anders in Stockholm

Summary: Amazing picture and sound, poor storyline and acting.
Review: The film to disc transfer is georgous. The Dolby Digital soundtrack is dynamic and rather well done. For a "Wow your freinds experience",this is a great movie. Unfortunatley, Mathew Broderick ruined this film for me.

Summary: bring back the old godzilla!!!
Review: If i was really really bored, i would recommend this movie. Although it IS watchable, the plot is too thin and the acting was horrible...The only thing that saved it from a one star rating was the special effects

Rating: 1 stars
Summary: a complete waste of time
Review: The movie, not unlike the incessantly rainy NYC setting, is a complete washout.

Rating: 4 stars
Summary: Godzilla was never meant to be Academy Award Material
Review: This review has a touch of bias with a reality check. Godzilla is a pretty good movie. Anyone wanting to take this movie seriously shouldn't be watching in the first place. Very good special effects, action with plots of humor, though thinly applied, a fair storyline. This movie can go a long way for middle-aged people who want to take their children to a movie that they can enjoy themselves.
