Summary: Not as deep as you might wish it to be.
Review: Alright, this movie was horrible. Like the person a couple of reviews before me, I would have to say I "got" it. I had a long disussion about the social commentary of this movie, and came to the conclusion there was none. Any of Verhoeven's attempts to be cerebral fall flat because of poorly executed intentions. Facism, Nazi-ism, and nationalism aside, I don't need to hear it from Casper Van Dien's mouth. I also don't need to see it alongside someone's brains being sucked out of their head. Wake up, it's not graphic realism, it's shallow sensationalism. You can't lay the trappings for every little fourteen-year-old with a libido to go to the movie theater to see Denise Richards prance around and then try to say you're also doing something "impo'ent". Besides, you already see her naked in another movie she made, I don't ask for her to shatter my ideals of the role of an intelligent, successful, female during a war in a over-zealous society and humanity. All in all, you can't have you cake (box office success) and necessarily eat it, too (intellectual praises). I don't like closet success "deep" movies, but there is something to be said for quiet, poignant movies which don't have to yell, kick, scream and be top-selling DVD to say something. Apocalypse Now was graphic, but justified, and was still successful. Think "Apoc. Now", not "Clueless", if you want to be remembered for making a point. Oh, yeah, the DVD packaging with all the add-ons was a bonus, though.

Review: We need a special edition one that starts the movie from the bootcamp part.

Summary: IS NOT VERHOEVEN"S BEST!!!!
Review: This is not Verhoeven's best.Look at Robocop,Total Recall,Basic Instinct. Was Starship Troopers better than all of those? I normally like Verhoeven because I like violence and am probably as morbid about it as he is.But Starship didn't have ENOUGH of it.It basically was a violent movie so give us a large dose of it!!!! what are you afarid of? I didn't like Edward Neumier's script or Heinlein's novel either. It was unnecessarily long and had pointless chit chat that bored me.I didn't particularly like Basil Poledouris's music like I normally do.But it was a one-time see movie.

Summary: The ultimate Test
Review: This was the first DVD I watched with my new Home Entertainment system. I was looking for a DVD that would test my system to the max and Starship Trooper did just that! The picture quality was excellent and the sound through my 6 piece speaker system was superb. I also like the fact that it was in the 1:85.1 ratio and not in the very small 2:35.1. I'm still having a hard time getting used to this widescreen format.

Summary: Another masterpiece of the good, old Maestro...
Review: Nowadays when most of the well financed directors haven't too much to say and the Others were silenced by the lack of funds, it's a blessed miracle that real masters of the Art, like Paul Verhoeven can still create and expose their masterpieces. No, this apears not to be for anyone! Some of the comments made by viewers confirm that. Another case of "pearls before swains" syndrome? Or, maybe "bad propaganda" against Hollywood intruders, who might polute the uniform, brainwashed and braiwashing "credo" of the Holly Capital of the Movie, with a new, dangerous spirit. Judging by some of the reactions one might think so. But,it might just be the swains... Luckly for me, I guess, I've missed the book... and watching the movie (for the first time on the TV, and having missed the very begining ) I didn't know it was a Verhoeven movie, so the bias was zero.I thought it was a Lucas or Spielberg movie, but then, again it had a different vibration and intensity! It was, same as in other Paul's movies, like if the Director is making love to the Viewer, through the actors and the action on the screen. Real Art and it's express through Love and an outstanding mastering of the meanings of the Trade. To me,this movie is a masterpiece, together with a few selected other "stars" and "encounters". An experience, like hearing Hendrix or Led Zep for the first time, in their own times...acts of love. Specially when coming from a Director who's a novice in the SF. And here is the catch: when you are so good to be able to create landmarks in a variety of "genres", than you become dangerous. Because people start paying a different kind of attention to what you have to say, start thinking, start getting ideeas. And you become their Teacher. Pro or anti-nazi? The message it's much more universal and broader. But remaining on Earth I though of anything from the Roman legions to our brainwashed kids and up to "the bug" present among

us.The one that the present weapons (medicines) cannot distroy. Propaganda? There is none! The only allegory consist in the fact that the Enemy isn't located on a faraway planet, but is omnipresent among us. And if our children want this Blue Planet to stand a chance, they WILL HAVE NO CHOICE, but fighting and hopefully destroying the Enemy who killed their loved ones. This was the message to me. As human, real and vibrant as it comes. Thank you one more time Paul. And I'm sure that among those who didn't understand are quite a few who got the message like a bulett, and their reaction is a pure expression of their inconfortability...or fear. The rest of us? Festivelly enjoyed it and thanked God one more time, that we're not with the Bugs...

Summary: A creative, funny futuristic social satire
Review: "Starship Troopers" is one of the few modern movies to parody man's Need to Fight. Like "Star Wars" before it, the director, Paul Verhoeven, transplanted the classic Cowboy-versus-Indian Western to the stars. Fortunately, he dropped Heinlein's 'techno-soldier' approach in the book (too similar to "Robocop"?) to focus on the lead characters' reactions to the horror of battle. The acting is about as good as it can be given the emphasis on action and lack of story depth. Director Verhoeven's Futuristic parodies on current society are funny and entertaining, as usual. Don't watch it expecting anything but excitement and some laughs. (Keep the little ones away from the show, though, it does get extremely graphic in parts.)

Summary: Long awaited classic becomes reality
Review: Two famous names, titans of their occupation, work together to provide the public with the most spectacular sci-fi adventure since Star Wars. Heinlein's epic talent has given us a vision of how gruesome war really is. Verhoven has used talent actors and EXTREME special effects to relay this image of war into our minds. The effects of war haven't been shown this vividly since Born on the Fourth of July. 5 Stars, for excellance both on the screen and in the mind.

Summary: Ok.
Review: This is an in-your-face, hackey-slashey, gory, action adventure movie. Or at least it tried to be. "Starship Troopers" was needlessly gory, not that I didn't like it, but it just got graphic to the point where it was stupid. But I like bloody movies, so it's all good. Should've gotten an Oscar for best make-up.

Summary: Expensive but not very creative or original
Review: This movie annoyed me quite a bit and pretty much insulted my inteligence in many scenes. I would have enjoyed this movie a lot more if I'd been drunk or had a labotamy first. On the other hand if you want nothing but action in a movie then you will probably like it.

Review: It might be a little on the graphic side, but the special effects were great. They were so great it is almost scary. The efeects were so good they made everything look so real.
