Summary: What if a childhood fantasy came true?
Review: In Kindergarden I remember them telling us how Dinosaurs were all giant unintelligent lizards. (I'm only 22, so you can imagine my suprise at recent discoveries.) People actually thought that Dinosaurs were giant lizards, infact the name Dinosaur translates to Terrible Thunder Lizard. I had envisioned a world where giant lizards would roam the earth doing nothing really interesting. Despite this we all have a facination with Dinosaurs that stems from not knowing what they were really like. Jurassic Park changed the way a lot of people saw Dinosaurs. Palentologists now theorize that Dinosaurs were closer to birds than Lizards, which changes the way that they would move, the way that they would sound... everything. Jurrasic was the first movie to incorporate many of those recent discoveries into the movie, and it was learning about these things that really made Jurassic Park the experience that it was for me.
The problem is that I read the book prior to seeing this movie and I was dissapointed that the movie was similar to the book in spirit and in characters alone. Aside from having the same characters this movie is nothing like the book, nothing. It does maintain the spirit of the book, characters that are easily likeable, and big huge ultra realistic looking dinosaurs. As a frachise Jurassic has been the only movie series to have consistantly convincing CGI characters, and full scale robots that look and move like real animals, and can kill those they are "acting" with. I was blown away by the movie's visual effects, and I still am.
This movie may not be the best movie of all time, but it is certainly one of my favorites simply because of the technical accomplishments of the film. The book is much better story wise, but the movie does maintain the fell of the book, I just wish that it hadn't changed the story so Jurassically (hehe.)
As far as special features on this disk go, there is just about everything a DVD lover could want, a fun and informative making of featurette, story boards, pages from the script, and a whole lot more. This movie would be worth paying [$] for, but thankfully you can get it for [$]. It is well worth the price.

Summary: GO JP!
Review: A *MUST* for any hard-core JP fan - the extras are worth it. Deleted scenes which help explain some plot holes in JP2 were what caused me to buy it in the first place and I must say, it was totally worth it! I highly suggest purchasing this!

Summary: Jurassic Park is a great movie.
Review: Jurassic Park is one of my top five favorite movies...if it isn't the top, but Jurassic Park isn't for everyone. I personally think 90% of people who watch it, enjoy it, 60% people will want to see it again, or at least wouldn't mind to. But the scientific jargon and fast pace, based on the Michael Crichton novel, isn't everyone's cup of tea.
The DVD is very high quality with the "making of Jurassic Park" and other great futures. The menu is good looking and easy to use, and the value of this DVD is very high.
I recommend this movie to anyone who likes action, suspense, or dinosaurs.

Summary: A Roaringly Good Treat
Review: Well, let me keep this short. These films rock! Dinosaurs heads coming through waterfalls, vibrating cups of water and T-Rex chases!!! A nice host of extras too.

Summary: Jurassic Park & Lost World Limited Deluxe Edition Box Set
Review: Jurassic Park & The Lost World Deluxe Collector's Edition Boxed Set is a good buy, even though that...price tag might turn you off at first, it should still be considered by movie/DVD fans. The collection contains the Dolby Digital Widescreen editions of the Speilberg films, a long with specially packaged soundtrack Cds, 8x10 photographs, two Senitype film cels which are individually numbered, a long with a certificate of authenticity (each box has an assigned number).

"Jurassic Park" is one of my favorites, if not the most favorite movie of mine. I know that aside from the breakthrough awe-inspiring special effects, there really isn't much that is that extraordinary. But the direction of Steven Speilberg, and the honesty of the actors really makes this film a classic, which I'm sure it will be called by the time of it's 25th Anniversary. Sam Neill, Laura Dern & Jeff Goldblum all give great performances, as do the child actors Ariana Richards and Joseph Mazello. The brother-sister chemistry that these then-children actors had in the movie, is something that was not matched by the kid actors in "The Lost World" or "Jurassic Park III". "Jurassic Park" has what some may call an unfair advantage to it's sequels: this was the first time that millions of people around the world saw a 'real dinosaur' (as in dinosaurs that actually look real), which gave it a sense of magic and wonder. That sense was just about gone by the time of the 1997 sequel, because of how common CG creatures had become by then. Nevertheless, "Jurassic Park" does have that magic, which makes it the best of the series. What movie goer could forget the first time Dr. Alan Grant saw the giant Brachiosaur, or the first time that thunderous footsteps were heard, and we saw the bloody leg of a lamb land on the car's sun roof to hail the arrival of the Tyrannosaur. This film was a milestone in motion picture history, and it will remain a timeless wonder. 5 out of 5

It's sequel, "The Lost World: Jurassic Park", however, doesn't come close to the original. My main question is, why was the book's story not followed? Had it been, this movie would have been great, under Speilberg's direction. The story the film does have is decent, the idea of InGen trying to exploit the dinosaurs by taking them off of the island and making a Jurassic Park in the U.S was actually a good idea. Richard Attenborough returns as John Hammond, the person responsible for recreating the animals, and he sends in an expedition team to document the animals to prove of their existence, to get public support (I'm guessing from...activists?) to boycott InGen's plans of moving these animals from their natural habitat. While there, the captured dinosaurs are let loose by Hammond's group (led by a returning Jeff Goldblum), and the Tyrannosaurs destroy their trailers (a long with their communications). So the two groups have to go to a village powered by thermal energy to call for help, and, of course, a long the way many do not survive. This sounds like a creative story, but some dialogue, inconsistencies to the first one, and some overlong scenes that don't seem necessary, brings the film down a lot. This film takes place on "Site B", where it turns that this is where the animals were bred all along, yet in the first film there was a hatching lab. In the novel by Michael Chrichton, this is explained to a certain extent, but in the film they just forgot about it. A major blow to the movie was the ridiculous (but at times entertaining) climax. The film does end on a good note though, with Hammond giving a message that includes a very important reference to the first film. I like this movie as a good action-adventure movie, the actors are all good as well. It's just unsatisfying knowing that this could have been so much better, "Jurassic Park III" is far more entertaining and satisfying, even though it had less story. 3/5

Summary: Long Awaited
Review: I found it odd that the director that brought digital effects to the fore front of movie making would be, at first, unwilling to release his films on the newest wave of digital home entertainment. All though hesitant at first Spielberg came to his senses and released 2 of his most celebrated works Jurassic Park and The Lost World as a 2 disc set.

All though these movies have a few extras, just the fact that these movies can even be seen on this spectacular medium is worthy of 5 stars. This movie is worth it just for the screen quality of the 2 discs.

A must have for the DVD efficianado!

Summary: Great, but still lacking...
Review: Now, don't get me wrong, I LOVE these movies! They're both the type that I can pop into my DVD player again and again and watch with the same enjoyment I felt eight years ago with the release of the original.

The digital transfer is BEAUTIFUL, the sound and picture about as good as you can get in the DVD format. The special features are good, but...

...but, I guess I was expecting a little bit more. Which, I guess, shows just how spoiled I've been by Spielberg. Don't get me wrong, I'm happy as a clam with my purchase, and I'm sure you will be, too. I just wish that a few of the features that have made other DVD's instant classics could have been included here. Considering what a groundbreaking series of films these are for special effects, who among us wouldn't have loved to hear a technical commentary by those who designed them?

Also sorely mising is the teaser trailer from the first one. Remember that one, back late 1992, that made us count the days until the opening of this film? Included is the general trailer, and that's it.

I know, I know, I'm getting REALLY picky here, considering that the price on this item is extremely fair, and all the great things I (and other people) have said about this release. I still gave it five stars because these are indeed great films and groundbreaking ones as well, and I'm not going to let my pettiness downgrade my rating of these films. I only hope the third intallment lives up to these two!

The basic point is, you've seen these films before. Hell, who hasn't? If you liked them, by all means, buy this set. You won't be disappointed. If you didn't, maybe you'll want to spend your money elsewhere. Of course, if you didn't, I feel sorry for you, because you sorely need to find the child within you once again.

Summary: Wow!
Review: What's not to like? The plot, the acting, the action, the special effects, the score: all were superb. I love films that not only entertain but teach. The first movie introduces you to the splendor, the wonder, and the terror of the dinosaurs. The second movie, shows how man in his greed and arrogance once again tries to turn a beautiful thing into a profit-making venture with no thought to the consequences and fails. This is a pair of movies I will enjoy over and over again.
