Summary: Excellent Movie But Most People Don't Understand It
Review: This Movie was the best movie i have ever seen. the music was awsome, and the soundtrack was so good they came out with a sequel for the soundtrack! but, like i said, this movie isnt for everyone; for some people the hacking is lame but i thought it was very well done. a. jolie was awsome and so were the other people but they all died or something because i never heard back from them lol

Summary: totally unrealistic but entertaining
Review: For those looking for an accurate portrayal of hacking and the hacking lifestyle, this is not for you. This movie is fun, that's it. It has more to do with romance and teenage problems than it does hacking. The scenes that have to do with hacking look cool, but really are nothing like the real thing. This however is completely understandable. If they were to show the real thing, the movie would be one of the more boring movies ever to hit the big screen. It's just a good movie to watch and have a good time with.

Summary: Hacking is supposed to look like a screensaver?!?!?
Review: I used to LOVE Hackers back in the day and I recently saw it again and now seing it as an adult....ALOT of the movie's portrayal of computers and how they work is totally inaccurate.
So hacking is basically pressing a whole bunch of keys (we never see what actually is being typed or asked)
with all this computer animation on the monitor showing (like a cool screensaver) that they are hacking.
What software are they using???
HACKERS the movie was made in I think '94 or '95 and the world wasn't that computer literate yet so I guess they had to make up some stuff because they didn't know if computers could do certain things yet. I also question the computer speed, everything was downloaded and uploaded like they had DSL or something.
I just peeped a lot of unknown stars in this movie too: Jesse Bradford from "Swimfan" and "Clockstoppers" was in this...he looked really young, Marc Anthony (the latin singer playing the cop) Mathew Lillard from Scooby Doo is in there too...they were all unknowns and this movie KEPT them unknowns...even Angelina Jolie.
The story in this movie was a cool story but they made up too much unbelievable stuff in between for the movie to be convincing. (See list)

1.Innacurate: An 8 year old Hacker in 1988? How'd he learn how to Hack back then especially when 1 in 30 people have computers and hackers were practically non-existent...well MALICIOUS hackers at least, Hackers were originally here to help like Richie Adler in "WHIZ KIDS" the TV series from back in the day ;>)
2.If DADE Miller was restricted to touch a computer for 8 years how was it that as soon as he was able to use a computer again he didn't skip a beat in terms of, he still remembered what codes (graphics) to use to hack again (hey times change and so do coding), oh and his old computer was still working and was able to do Hacking in the 90s???
3.Being that Jonny Lee Miller in real life was british you could still hear his accent in the movie and it noticeable in more scenes than others.
4.What was it about Jonny Lee Miller in this movie that made Angelina Jolie want to marry him in real life??
5.What was up with that "elf" style haircut they gave Angelina Jolie?? It was annoying to look at!
6.Hackers can be anybody, the dude or girl that works next to you even in corporate America (NEO from the Matrix worked in corporate America) most Hackers are homebodies who rarely leave their computer...and when they do leave their computer they have a laptop to make up for the time away from it...why did they make it seem like Hackers are
Cyber Punk rockers who listen to techno, go to underground RAVE parties as well as RAVE house parties.
7.Why were they dressing like they were in an Episode of Battlestar Gallactica???
Oh in their book Hackers dress like that...okay.
8.The Villain in this movie was soooooo Comical and unconvincing. You want to crash the world's computer system so you can steal 20 million???
He's supposed to be a Professional Hacker and can't just hack into his local neighborhood bank instead of ruining the World's economy with oil spills and all that jazz.
Overall (I'm done criticizing) I still like the movie but if I watch it again I will look past all this so I can enjoy it.

Summary: If you know anything about computers this movie is hilarious
Review: With 242 previous reviews I doubt anyone needs me to chime in, but I have to say that this movie is absolutely hilarious. I have worked in info security for years and was absolutely SHOCKED at how bad this movie truly is. That said, it is a very fun movie to watch as it goes through the list of stereotypes. You have:

1. The clueless fed, doesn't know what a hard drive is.
2. The evil hacker, wears black, skateboards.
3. The genius hacker, inherently good at anything and everything immediately. The main character seems to be a bizarre mix of Kevin Mitnick and Robert Morris.
4. The hacker culture, including tecno, Jolt soda, anit-corporate rhetoric (from Razor and Blade) and the above-mentioned geniuses.

I remember going to a security conference and hearing "Hack the Planet!" being yelled (by a hacker in the true spirit of the word); everyone laughed. I live in southern california and can tell you that this movie is to hacking what "North Shore" is to surfing.

Summary: What's up with this movie?
Review: This is a movie that tries to be cool but fails miserably. In case you can't tell from the title, it is about hackers. Teenage hackers, to be precise. It is extremely rediculous, but at the same time it is dull and formulaic. I caught this movie on television one night, thinking "Hey, it's got Angelina Jolie in it, so it can't be that bad," but I was wrong. The hackers in this movie are all wierdos who sound like they are speaking a foreign language when they talk about computers. Hackers, apparently, are a huge underground society and have their own restaurants and TV shows. Also, all male hackers seem to act and dress like homosexuals. That's odd. Anyway, beneath all the wierdness this is, in some ways, an average teen movie. Also, with its hacker heroes fighting the oppressive FBI and the greedy corporations, you don't have to look very hard to see that it is leftist, anti-government propaganda more than anything else. All of this might have been forgivable if it was more entertaining, but it wasn't, so I give it one star, plus one extra star because it has Angelina Jolie in it.

Summary: outstanding kid flick
Review: Films based on technology should become dated...fast. But this one doesn't. Teenie bopper hackers vs corporate techno-crooks while using all the lastest hacker techniques and technology circa too long ago. But since a lot of the filming makes fine use of visual metaphor to supplement actual techno-things, the film comes off as slightly timeless.

Miller's ex overacts, as usual, but the cast is very well chosen and succeeds as techno-weenies. Fisher Stevens is at his best as corporate techno-crook Mr. The Plague with Lorraine Bracco as his idiot sidekick. You'll probably want to invest in the techno-rock CDs that make up the soundtrack too, I don't know which was better, the film or the soundtrack.

Summary: title speaks for itself
Review: As the title speaks to us, 'Hackers', it becomes aparent to us that the movie might be about hacking, and yes your right. But this is hacking with a twist, hackers against one hacker. 'Hackers of the world unite' to form an alience to defeat the one controlling their lives.
It starts as a revenge story between two hackers that met in an interesting situation, the plot gathers itself around this fact to form them as boy and girl as you would. The revenge story becomes a fight for hte fitest, and see how it turned out.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: A romance story for us nerds who do no good.
Review: Completely fantasy and a good one at that. I didn't like the TV station controlled by computers scenes. I did find the fighters turn lovers fun. I don't think much of the computers in the movie were based on reality. But then movies should be an escape and this one is fun. Of course there was good v. evil and uglies v. prettys and even youth v. old and of course we know who wins in the movies and we know how this affects viewers and politics don't we?
