Rating: Summary: 5th element? - 7th Heaven... Review: Sci-Fi is a genre of pure escapism and as such can be as lavish and adventurous as it need be. Here, Luc Besson has produced a magnificent film with all the trimmings, containing every element a good tale needs: action; adventure; fantasy; good vs. evil and love. It looks and sounds wonderful (especially on DVD) and doesn't take itself too seriously, skilfully weaving the humour into the film as a whole, without sacrificing any of it's credibility. Despite all the effects and big bangs and big names, there is more to the 5th element than is usually found in big buck Hollywood specials. Subtly detached from the guns, spaceships and blue aliens, we have the beautiful 5th element (Leeloo) who looks at life with a supreme intelligence and an almost childlike innocence. We are asked if we are truly worthy of existence, and in the end, it seems, love really is all you need.
Rating: Summary: Pathetic Review: You either love or hate this movie. I fall into the latter category. The effects are great. It's a wonderful transfer, and the sound is incredible, but let's face it, people, THIS MOVIE IS ONE OF THE WORST SCI/FI FILMS EVER MADE. ABSOLUTELY EMBARRASSING. Take a lighter and burn your $20. It'd be a better use of your money.
Rating: Summary: WOW! Review: One of the finest scifi movies ever made. Luc Bessons' directorial skills combined with Jean Paul gaultier's outrageous outfits have given this film a refreshingly arty appearance. But don't worry, this does not alienate the conventional scifi audience, instead it greatly increases the appeal to a wider audience while giving its core fans something new and original. Every ingredient of this film is perfect. It has an original concept, fantastic visuals, exciting characters and an inventive, flowing script. For those of you blessed with dvd players and home cinema set ups you are in for a treat, the sound and picture quality is probably the best that I have witnessed. In all, this is one of the most visually stimulating films that you will ever see, but where other films makers may make sacrifices elsewhere to accommodate this, this film does not. No corners are cut in what I can only describe as a true masterpiece of film making.
Rating: Summary: Fifth Element - First Class Review: What a knock-out! For anyone who wants to have great entertainment and has the facilities of widescreen television and DTS amplifier with complete surround sound system - this is one that will have your chin hitting the floor with its superb visual and audio effects. I had already seen this on VHS but there is no contest after viewing it on DVD. The story is great and the acting cannot be faulted. One of the very best of its genre. Definitely NOT to be missed. Warn the neighbours - turn up the volume, sit back and have a great time!
Rating: Summary: The perfect mix between two worlds Review: This movie is a masterpiece. That happens sometime when the Old Europe meets the USA : you get what both worlds have the best to offer. USA with great actors, lots of thrilling special effects and Europe with arts (costumes and sets) and the fine 'french' touch. This is a MUST have !
Rating: Summary: The seventh sensory element Review: What can one say? Bruce Willis at his best, the extremly aggresive yet amusing character Corben Dallas immerges himself into an action-adventure quest in order to save the world from the entity known as EVIL! . To be quite honest.....one of the best movies I've ever seen.
Rating: Summary: The Fifth Element Review: A cult movie as it was released. Will join the likes of Blade Runner and Rocky Horror as must haves in any collection. Brilliant Story, Brilliant Music AND Milla!
Rating: Summary: NOT EVEN WORTH THE RENTAL! Review: The Fifth Element is a fine example of a movie with a reknowned director, a big budget, a fine cast of actors, creative set designers yet when these "elements" are put together they still manage to make a HORRIBLE movie. It's NOT funny, it's NOT entertaining, the effects are POINTLESS random explosions, it's not even very creative. This is a stupid movie, stupid, stupid, stupid. I will never watch a new Luc Besson movie again. I left the theater at one point went to the restroom, played a video game or three, got some food, finally decided to return to my seat. THEY WERE STILL DOING THE SAME BIT! I saw this against better judgement, on a three dollar maintenee and I wanted my money back, I would have left after ten minutes but I had nothing else to do! Spare yourself, spare your children, this is like watching Barney and Friends for three hours without commercials!
Rating: Summary: What a movie should be Review: The Fifth Element on DVD is exactly what a movie should be: a very pleasant diversion. Immersing yourself in this movie will provide nearly two hours of get-away-from-it-all fun. The visuals are stunning and the story is engrossing. But the DVD takes first place. The transfer is nigh onto perfect, and the fact that it can be played full screen or wide screen doesn't hurt either. Get this one and have some fun.
Rating: Summary: Great DVD and a fun movie Review: You notice I did not say a "great" movie. This is a reference quality DVD transfer. I have had the disc since release and very few if any DVDs since have surpassed it in terms of audio or video quality. Beautiful scenery (the opera scene for one - notice the planet rising in the background) and fantastic Dolby Digital soundtrack combine to make this a disc that you invite your friends over to see. Now for the story. I liked it. It is another Bruce Willis saves the world from baddies, he's and ex-cop, ex-soldier storyline, but with enough juice behind it to keep me interested. The film editing was incredible (again, see the opera/fight scene)and it was not quite "poo" as one of the reviewers said. It was more enjoyable than Star Wars Episode 1, however, and I liked that film better than most.
