Review: I'll admit it, it did have a great opening sequence in which you're looking through a criminals eyes. After seeing that, I had high hopes. About a hour later, I was so bored with the movie that I turned it off and watched reruns of Mork & Mindy. Probably the worst movie James Cameron has ever been involved in. Summary: Strange days is one of the best movies out there
Review: Strange days,which stars ralph fiennes,juliette lewis,angela basset,tom sizemore,michael wincott and many others,is a stylish,cool,and wild movie.The plot is about an ex-cop(fiennes)who stumbles into murder involving his ex-girlfriend(lewis)and his best friend or so he thought(sizemore)along with the murder of a rap star by 2 corrupt cops,one of them played by the brilliant actor vincent donofrio.Ralph fiennes play the role of lenny nero brilliantly and superb.And tom sizemore is great as the crazed killer.The ending is awesome..in fact the whole movie is excellent.It is one of my favorite,not so in the distance future,thrillers.Right up there with escape from new york and blade runner.Katheryn bigelow,who directed,is an excellent filmaker(point break).If you enjoy the movie,you should also check out the soundtrack.It has great tunes by peter gabriel,deep forrest,lori carson and many more.This film is an instant classic.Great casting,great score,great filming.Great movie.Billy from new jersey....

Summary: Slick Cyberpunk Noir for people who've seen it all (already)
Review: If it wasn't plagued by confusing and promiseless trailers, Strange Days could have elevated its breed of techno-underworld fiction to the popularity of, say, epic space adventures. Sadly, many didn't take the opportunity to see this complex and well-produced thriller in the theater.What makes Strange Days stand out amidst other early 90's cyberpunk movies (like Johnny Mneumonic) is its emphasis on the film noir roots its genre was founded on. Its characters are well-rendered, and the plot (though centered on technologies not yet available) is believable, if a little disturbing.

Summary: The future is beautiful...
Review: This is a brilliant film! There are plenty of mediocre sci-fi dark future movies, but this one manages to stand out from the others. "Strange Days" has got a SOUL... it's sort of like "Escape from New York": you love it but at the same time you know that if it would have been just a little different it would have sucked. But "Strange Days" definitely doesn't suck. It's exciting and it has the action, but what's so special about it in my opinion is that it's beautiful at the same time. You really feel for Lenny Nero (Ralph Fiennes) who cannot forget his lost love, and the music makes it even better (many times I've played the end credits over and over just to listen to Deep Forest). Kathryn Bigelow is a magnificent director, and it's a shame that this film didn't become a bigger hit than it did. It deserves better. END

Summary: Ambitious plot not adequately served in mediocre film.
Review: In this good idea-bad film Lenny Nero(Ralph Fiennes) peddles miniture CD's called "clips" in 1999 L.A. that are in fact real experiences of human life recorded straight from the cerebral cortex and sold on the black market. While this film, made in 1993, greatly overestimated the projected technology of the not-so-distant future, the plot isn't a bad one until it becomes crowded in a forest full of sub-plots that push the film to the brink of the epic, only to pull back at the last moment in sentimental cheese. Life changes for dirty little Lenny Nero when he encounters a "blackjack", or that is, a clip of somebody being murdered. He discoveres later that behind this murder are,(to mention just a few subplots) a massive LAPD conspiracy to cover a murder of a black man, an endangerment to his relationship with old flame, Faith(Juliette Lewis), a price on his head as well as everybody else in the "clip" business, and just ever so possibly the hint of an apocalypse. Wow! Add to this the help of friend/bullet proof limosine driver/weaponeer/martial arts expert Angela Basset, cunning hood Tom Sizemore and a host of GEN X trash that permeate the film and what you have at the end is an entirely too long web of subplots that that leave us asking questions instead of rejoicing in the movies unexpected, not to mention incoherent, end. On the bright side the movie is well filmed, and well acted by its enormously talented cast. Yet as a supposed action movie the film doesn't pump up the adrenaline, nor do love scenes between Fiennes and Lewis pump up the passion. The entire relationship betwen the two is, in fact, not necessary in the making of the film, as Fiennes relationships to Basset and Sizemore are much better performed and developed in the script. In all, "Strange Days" is noteworthy becauase of its ambitious plot and theme, had either of them been adequately achieved. It is no bomb, and does have the allure of cult film, but overall falls short like many of its competitors in this modern age of science-fiction filmmaking. END

Summary: Year 2000 is coming and anarchy follows
Review: My favorite film of all time, Strange Days manages to capture everything possible in a 2-something hour movie. It is an action movie done with taste. Like other James Cameron movies, this one has is a very touchy, emotional story told in front of a backdrop of near-anarchistic streets of Los Angeles on December 31, 1999. The movie has a very dark -Nautral Born Killers- feeling but I could only be saying that because of Juliete Lewis who plays lead roles in both movies. The bottom line is that every person should see this movie and eveyr person will find something to like in it. It has beautiful romantic scenes as well as violent rape scenes, it has everything, yet it does not feel cluttered END

Summary: 'Out there' but excellent
Review: I'm glad to see I'm not the only one who loved this movie, I own it and I own very few movies (I can count them on one hand). Went to see it on opening night in October of 96 and the theater was half empty. The critics hated it I believe it is because it appeals to a fairly narrow audience. The premise is quite intriguing and the actors are very well cast. This is a unique movie, it is hard to compare to others so that the new viewer can determine if they would like it. Some scenes are disturbing without being gory (one murder scene in particular). This is definitely not a movie for the under 16 crowd, but if you like 'thinking man's' sci-fi such as Gattaca, some James Cameron movies (Terminator, Aliens, but EXCLUDING Titanic) and other cult favorites like Point Break (also directed by Katherine Bigelow), The Crow, The Doors, even the first Predator movie, you may like this. The soundtrack is also particularly good for those who have widely varying tastes. It has alternative, gangsta rap, even new age flavors. END

Summary: A Vision of New Year's Eve 2K
Review: My favourite scene is at the end, when everything is in slow motion, all the ticker tape is falling, everyone is kissing, Lenny (Ralph Fiennes) climbs into the ambulance, and Mace (Angela Bassett) climbs into the limo. "Fall Into the Light" is playing. Ralph climbs out of the ambulance, makes his way through the crowd, pounds on the glass window of Angela's, limo, and she gets out. Then follows a slow motion kiss between Ralph and Angela. I never wanted to be a black woman so much in my entire life. END

Summary: Good for action after the kids are in bed
Review: "Strange Days" is a fast-paced thriller that got very little recognition from the critics. Perhaps that's because, although full of action, it doesn't have enough gore or car ripper scenes to please thriller movie seekers. Except for the occasional nudity, and frequent hard language, this movie may have been better off being released as a television movie. All the same, the video is a good one to pick up for home viewing, especially after the kids are tucked away in bed for the night. Ralph Fiennes, generally known for his dark, moody roles, pulls off the character of Lenny to the point of charming. Angela Bassett is buff and tuff and wonderfully suited for her role as Mace. I had a bit of a problem with Juliette Lewis in the role of Faith, although I can't put my thumb on the reason why. The rest of the cast were well suited for their roles. Although dark and sometimes depressing, "Strange Days" is still worth settling down with a soda and bowl of buttered popcorn. Don't let the widescreen format scare you away; it's amazing how fast you get used to it. END
