Summary: A Fair Adaptation, Unnecessary Changes
Review: Harry Potter has been written so that adaptation can come easily. That's plain to see. The way the paragraphs cut to one another, it is clear that Rowling has an instinct for Cinematic effects within her books.
What we lose is the true feeling of her book, its pace, its charm and what we get is a gooped over, unnecessarily moralising version. Thanks, Chris Columbus *sarcastic cough*. I really didn't appreciate the blatant changes, things like changing Fluffy's origin to Irish traders? It isn't funny when you take away the Greek bit. He's a character of GREEK mythology.
Also, why wasn't Snape's being saved by Harry's father when the two went to school mentioned? Why wasn't the rivalry that was so like Malfoy's and Harry's mentioned? These are important details left behind, while goofy family lines are stuck in at inappropriate moments, especially the end lines. Ok, it's a family movie, but it's also about kids, and kids will be kids. The ending lines of Harry saying "Dudley doesn't need to know that I can't do magic" ought to have been left in. At last he can threaten, without breaking rules, the tyrants he's lived with for ten years. Instead, the movie portrays him as something of a milksop, goody goody.
Otherwise, the kids were spot-on perfectly cast. The ADORABLE little Harry and Malfoy, the absolutely cute Hermione and the younger Weasleys, and all the staff were so perfectly well cast, that one might think Rowling had them in mind to begin with. So the casting crew is to be highly commended.
The effects are fabulous, even if one must suspend belief that the Quidditch field is so obviously CG'd compared to the rest of it. The acting is a little stiff from the kids sometimes, but they do wonderfully at it.
The extras alone are worth buying the DVD. The cut scenes are a necessary part of the movie, and I wish they'd been left in.
How about an extended edition Harry Potter series!!? =D That would make it much better.
But as it is, it's pretty darn fun. Very much Recommended.

Summary: My Favorite Harry Potter movie
Review: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone was, in my opinion better than the chamber of secrets. I saw the chamber of secrets in the theater but it didn't seem like it was very good and I hope that if they make a movie for all of the books, they will all be worth watching.

I'm pretty sure most of yyou reading my review will already know the story but I'll mention it anyway. The story is about a boy named Harry Potter[Daniel Radcliffe] who lives with his evil step-parents, the Dursleys. Untill, one day he gets a letter inviting him to attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry since he is a wizard even though he doesn't know it. The whole story talks about how he finds out about the Sorcerer's stone which is a stone that can make anyone immortal.

I thought that the movie was good except some parts weren't in the movie that were in the book, but there were very few. This is not one of the best movies in the world but it is still funto watch at times. I thought that all of the books were good but my only complaint was that sometimes the plot got a little confusing. The only person I recognize from the making of this movie was Chris Columbus. He was the directer of Home Alone which is also a good movie.

The special features include: never before-seen footage, self guided tour of Hogwarts, theatrical trailer and you can perform certain activities. I tried a few of these features but I think they're more for kids.

If you are a fan of Harry Potter then you should see this movie. I also think that the chamber of secrets is also worth a try.

Summary: Mediocre but good entertainment
Review: While it could have been better, Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone on screen is not bad. There are many things to complain about, such as mediocre acting and poor directing; but generally the movie stayed true to the book and as an introduction to what will probably be seven Harry Potter movies, it serves pretty well. The star was lost for the plain old movie messups, which has nothing to do with JK Rowling at all.

Summary: Harry Potter Fans Unite!
Review: This movie is Bloody Brilliant!
I was a Harry Potter fan the second I picked up the first book, which was when it came out. And I have thouroghly enjoyed reading all these brilliant books. If you are a Harry Potter fan I know you will enjoy the first movie. It has everything a movie needs. Suspense, Drama, Fantasy, Courage, a Hero and a Villan, love, loyalty and betrayal. Being after the book it just had to be good. There are a few parts I wish they hadn't taken out but all in all it was wicked. I would recommend reading the books before you see the movies, I enjoyed very much comparing the Book and the Movie with my friends. Being 15 you would think that maybe I might of outgrown Wizards and castles, at least thats what everyone else thinks...HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! NO WAY! See this movie I know you'll think it's Wicked also!

Summary: Surprisingly good!
Review: I have not read any of the Harry Potter books, nor have I seen any of the movies - until this one. When flipping thru the tv channels, I accidentally stumbled across this movie near the beginning of it. My 5 and 4 yr old girls were immediately captivated! We sat & watched the entire thing without needed a snack or a bathroom break at all! (Parents of young kids will understand what I mean there!)
The movie is about Harry journeying to Hogwart's school of wizardry, learning to use magic, and defeating the one "person" who could not defeat Harry long, long ago. There is an amazingly real game of chess played, a lot of lessons about friendship, and a lot of magic!
Very interesting movie! I recommend it to all!!

Summary: Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone (DVD)
Review: Though there are some things in this movie that don't please me, it's only because I've read the book. And this movie is SO close to the book I couldn't complain for long.
It deserves 5-stars.

Summary: Entertainment for all ages
Review: As soon as the Harry Potter books arrived on bookshleves across the world, ready for retail, they were a legend. Why? It's quite simple, really. The key word is escapism. Children would love to be Harry Potter, sent away from their parents at an early age and then rescued by a giant and flown on a motorbike to a castle that teaches children to be the world's best witches and wizards. Unfortunately, however much of a classic these works of fiction are, every child is disappointed at the end of the day. But hey! Fiction is fiction, and it should stay like that. Harry Potter's parents were killed by Voldemort, an evil satanic wizard, and he is left to live in a cupboard with his bullyish cousins, the Dursleys. However, Hagrid rescues him well and takes him to the place of his dreams: Hogwarts School. Fighting through the toughest adventures possible, with an added touch of friendship and future romanticism, such a film entertains, and yet brings positive emotions to the viewer. Beautiful music by John Williams accompanies; and what's more, special effects are carefully used to really bring the viewer into the film himself. A brilliant, high budget movie, suitable for any ages, and certainly resemblant of the books themselves, this movie must be awarded five stars. A great work of fiction; I hope to watch and read the stories again and again. Fantastic.

Summary: Interesting, But Not the Book
Review: The movie is a well-done attempt to condense the book into a watchable, visual version. However, much of the magic is convoluted and the many of the characters are made stale and wooden, partly because it is so difficult to condense this huge and irreplaceable book into a movie. One associate of mine described the acting as "psychotic." I give the girl who played Hermione Granger a thumbs-up and if you need to know the story for class, watching the movie is a good way to get it fast. But it won't be nearly as enjoyable as reading the book itself.

Summary: The movie was okay... but the DVD...
Review: For me the Harry Potter movie was pretty good, but the DVD was horriblE! The only good special features were deleted scenes, which took me a long time to find. The rest is just games and activities. It might be nice to put in featurettes on how the movie was made, but no. THIS MOVIE DVD= BAD BARGAIN!
