Summary: A wonderful DVD and movie.
Review: This movie version of the first volume of Harry Potter. It is a wonderful movie. It closely, very closely follows the plot of the book. First I will rate the movie part then the special features.

Harry potter is has alot going for it. it has an amazing storyline, and amazing special effects. The story is about a young boy named Harry Potter. As a baby he was dropped off at his aunt and uncles house. He was abused, then hagrid, a wizard came and told him he was excepted to Hogwarts school of wichchraft and wizardry. The acting is probably the best I've seen in children actors. The chemistry between the trio is amazing. it adds a whole lot of enjoyment. And the special effects, they are amazing. The best special effects I've seen in a movie. This movie blends modern technology and a great story, to make one of the best movies of 2001.

Next I will review the special features disk.

The special features are great. They include a tour of Hogwarts, puzzles and games, and a commentary. The point of the game is to get to the end, witch has many deleted scenes. The tour of Hogwarts is also pretty cool. It can't go through the whole of Hogwarts, but it does go through quite a bit. The commentary is about the making of the movie, which is quite interesting. Basically the special features are great. This has better special features even than Star Wars Episode 1 the Phantom Menace. The special features are very unique, quite like the movie.

Overall this is the DVD of the year, and definetly worth buying.

Summary: Good, but...
Review: The movie is a good adaptation of the book. It captures the story and the spirit well. However, even at over 2 and a half hours long the movie can't capture the intricacies of the original (book) storyline. While the book is a children's story (according to everyone but Rowling) that is written well enough to keep the average adult reading, the movie has had to be simplified too much. It ends up being just a kids' movie. It's a pretty good kids' movie but it doesn't live up to the hype ... or the book

Summary: a note about the difference between widescreen and full
Review: Let me start by saying that Harry Potter is a fantastic movie and will make you want to dive into its incredible world. Great characterization, dialogue, sets, and cinematography. I highly reccomend it, for anyone, not just kids. The only special features that are really worth it are the deleted scenes

Now, about the difference between the two versions. I accidentally got the full-screen version and was rather upset with myself, being a widescreen advocate. Then I came across a particular website. I can't post the URL but, search on google for harry potter dvd comparison and it'll be the first hit. Anyway, it turns out that Harry Potter was filmed in super35 film. That means that both the widescreen and fullscreen editions are "crops" of the actual original footage which is a larger area of view than either format. So, what all this means is there are things you can see in the fullscreen version that you cant in the widescreen and vice versa. You'll need to decide for yourself.

Summary: THE MOVIE IS OK. THE BOOK IS GREAT!!
Review: THE MOVIE SOUNDS REALLY GOOD WHEN YOU HEAR ABOUT IT OR SEE THE PREVIEW BUT IT'S NOT THAT GOOD.
THE BOY WHO PLAYED HARRY POTTER IS A REALLY BAD ACTOR. IT SEEMS LIKE HE DOESN'T TRY VERY HARD.
THEY CUT ALOT OUT OF THE BOOK TO MAKE THE MOVIE AND THAT'S A
DISAPPOINTMENT FOR ME:)
IN THE MOVIE THEY TOOK LINES FROM THE BOOK AND PUT THEM IN THE WRONG PLACES BECAUSE THEY CUT SO MUCH OUT.
THIS MOVIE IS NOT BAD, BUT NOT REALLY GOOD EITHER, SO YOU LIKE IT OR YOU HATE IT.
RENT IT BEFORE YOU BUY IT!!!!
I HOPE THIS HELPS SOMEBODY!...

Summary: Got boring
Review: This was going great at the beginning. This movie almost gave me a nightmare. I bet Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets will be better. I thought Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone took 1hr. and 45 minutes. (105 minutes) I think that Harry Potter, Hey Arnold, The Powerpuff Girls and Scooby-Doo are the best PG movies I had ever seen. But 1/2 time of the movie, it got really boring.

Summary: Don't compare this to the book.
Review: Although they crammed a lot of details into the movie, the book is the book, and nothing can surpass the brilliant writing. As movies go, this one is very entertaining and wonferfully safe for children. Casting is brilliant, and the pace of the movie is just right. No luls, some nice suprises, etc. My only complaint is with the special features the DVD boasts. Many were on the website previous to the movie, and the die hard fans wanted something fresh and exciting to see. Where are the behind the scenes looks, and character profiles? Not on here!

Summary: All the elements for a great childrens series
Review: I can't believe that the Harry Potter series started out as a bedtime story that J.K Rowling made up for her children. It is an extremely original and well thought out series. This story expands way beyond a mere childrens story, and is good for almost any age group.

Summary: Good but not up to the book.
Review: I did not have high expectations for the movie, because frankly I thought live action to be a poor choice for an adaptation of a highly magical work. However, I found that I was wrong and live action indeed worked admirably.

The movie is enjoyable and will be highly prized especially by those who have not read the books. However, for those who have I think many will be disappointed. The movie lacks the sparkle of the first novel since many of the humorous vignettes that make the book special have been deleted for lack of time. I would have gladly spared some compression of the plot to spend more time with the Weasleys and other important though not large characters.

The main players are fine in their roles. The standouts being newcomers Rupert Grint and Emma Watson playing Ron and Hermione. This is a good movie just not as good as it could or should have been.

Summary: A Really Good Movie DVD-- with Great Special Features
Review: Undoubtedly, every person reading this review has already seen the movie, probably in a theatre, or at least at home on VHS or DVD. So you don't need me to tell you how spectacular the movie is, or how well acted, or how beautifully adapted from the book. I give the movie 4 stars.

So how in the world can I give the DVD 5 stars, you ask? Because of the special features, like nothing on any other DVD I've ever seen. The interactive stuff is truly interactive, with all kinds of neat rewards for choosing the right answers, and neat punishments for choosing the wrong ones. There's even a section about the Seven-Bottle Puzzle that was such a neat point in the book, but which was left out of the movie-- you have to have read the book to get the correct answer, a nice case of movie producer acknowledging his debt to author. There's a very nice virtual 3-D tour of Hogwarts, including details you can barely make out during the movie itself.

My only complaint is that there are no interviews with the three major young actors, but that's minor. On the whole, I love this 2-DVD set, and in some ways the second disk is the better of the two!

Summary: So fun!
Review: I thought this movie was going to be an overhyped little kids movie, but it really isn't. I had refused to read the books and watch the movie until my mom became hooked on the books. Then, I gave in...and now I'm glad I did.

This movie is a spectacular ride through a young wizard's (Harry) introduction to the magic that was always in his blood. He and his friends go on an adventurous journey to stop the madman who killed Harry's parents, and show that they are all brave, true, and loyal.

The special effects are incredible. Of course, sometimes, you can tell that they're using animitronics instead of the actors. (I think that might be on purpose, though.)

I definitely recommend that you watch this movie...no matter how old you are because you will definitely enjoy it!
