Rating: Summary: ukkk! Review: It's so bad that its not even funny. It takes everything from the first movie and destroys it. The only good thing is it led to the series. The rest of the sequal don't even mention this alien thing. and thats good. Personally I'd rather believe in immortal humans then strange aliens in a plot that doesn't even make sense.
Rating: Summary: almost worth 3 stars Review: Just in case you're confused with the many invocations of Highlander 2 I'll try to clear it up for you. First, there was Highlander 2: the quickening. This was the original theatrical version, think of it as version 1.0. Several years later came Higlander 2: The Renegade Version. This was a director's cut with a reworked story, think of it as version 1.5. Now there's Highlander 2: The Special Edition. This is basically the renegade version polished up; which was needed because the renegade version was thrown together so sloppily, think of it as version 1.7. With that being said, what can you really say about a film that has been reworked twice. Although this is the best Highlander 2 there can be it still cannot undo the obvious mistake they made with this film, they tried to explain the origin of the immortals. They completely destroyed the mystery and mystique of the concept with this movie. If you watch the extras, you can actually hear the producers admit to this mistake. They even admit how they tried to explain it wasn't the best choice either, which I'll not argue. The original idea was just plain stupid, while the reworked version was more strange than stupid it wasn't quite enough to redeem this film. This polished up version adds a lot of visual appeal to it, but not much else. Most of the changes are subtle, but there's some very noticeable ones as well; like the force field. If you're a die hard Highlander fan who wants at least one version of this film in their collection; this is the one to get.
Rating: Summary: What Review: Now hold on even if they could cunningly work in the fact that immortals a aliens, Connor still won the prize which should mean where ever their from he still killed them all.
Rating: Summary: Great Movie. Review: Now, before all of your heads explode, let me tell you why I say this. As a huge fan of the delightfully funny series Mystery Science Theater 3000, I have a strange appreciation for films commonly regarded as being the worst of the worst. If only MST3K had gone on with a larger budget for obtaining films, I think Highlander 2 could have made a standout episode for the crew of the ol' Sattelite of Love. Since they never made an MST3K around Highlander 2, a certain level of entertainment can be derived from sitting back and verbally ripping it to shreds with some buddies. I urge you all to give it one more try while playing MST3K with a few of your friends. I strongly believe you will find a new appreciation for it based on this. Thank you.
Rating: Summary: What were they thinking? Review: The glory of Highlander I is its mythical storyline. Like Lord of the Rings, the beauty of magic in a rational world is appealing to fantasy enthusiasts all around the world. Sometimes the best mysteries are inexplicable and presume a higher being in control of the universe. So, as such Highlander appeals to those of a theist philosophy in its romantic style, eluding to the graces man receives in an ordinary world. At times, history is the most appealing aspect of fantasy. Watching a young Connor battle with his clan against a foe from another land, to the commoner appears completely normal and possibly based on a historical war. This movie has stripped the Highlander of those elements which appeal to fantasy and converted it to an unlyrical science fiction series. I have nothing against science fiction, but the original Highlander never hinted at extraterrestrails. I suppose the original was nothing more than a trick. Here you go, yes there is a higher power, but wait, before you think we are saying that, let me take the veil over your eyes and show you that science was truly behind it! Does anyone truly wonder why the t.v. series reverted to the original premise of the story? Because it was a better plot! Highlander II does have some moments that I would enjoy if in another movie series, but certainly not as a part in it. Why Lambert even agreed to do this, at the height of his career is beyond me.
Rating: Summary: If you saw it in the theatre you need to buy this! Review: The original theatrical release of this movie was taken over by the film's insurance company due to budget overruns. They were the ones who produced the monstrosity that we saw the first time around. This version *completely* eliminates all traces of that "Planet Zeist" crap. This alone makes the movie watchable. Beyond that, the plotline has been re-edited for continuity (cause actually precedes effect now) and scenes have been added back in that should never have been removed - scenes which make the whole story gel a bit more. While Highlander II:Renegade Edition still in no way measures up to the first movie (a MUST have, especially the Director's Cut), it's still a quite entertaining movie and well worth the money. END
Rating: Summary: Sean Connery wasn't enough! Review: The reason this extremely pathetic piece of drivel Mulcachy has the nerve to call a Highlander sequel has not merited one star, is the appearance of Ramirez. However even Sean Connery's performance wasn't enough to save this movie. The plot is an obscenity to every living thing on the planet. Michael Ironside however has a very memorable character, almost as evil as the Kurgan from the first movie. All I can say is I hope the actors were paid a large amount of cash for their participation in the worst sci-fi ever made.
Rating: Summary: HIGHLANDER 2 SPECIAL EDITION 2004 Review: This is just a slightly altered version of the "renegade version" that came
out a few years ago. All of the optical effects involving the "shield"
have been replaced by new computer generated effects. The crashed
Zeist spacecraft has been replaced by a CG cityscape. This is nice, but the effects were never the problem with Highlander 2. New sound effects and a slightly altered music track are also featured. Seqences
such as the alternate ending (European version) are still missing. It is
featured in the "deleted scenes" segment but it is just the unfinished studio footage. Sequences showing immortals being "beamed" fom
some distant and oddy technological past are still here; But should
have been the first thing cut years ago. Dialogue from the original
1990 vesion that does not "jive" with the dynamics of the new version is still here. ("Your mortal there, but your immortal here, until you go back there." "He's an old man now. He'll be dead in a couple of weeks.")
All references to "The Quickening" have been removed. This is totally unnecessary and just feels wrong. (The directors/producers explanation
for this is completely stupid.) Some of the better dialogue from the original version has also been cut (such as the Connor & Louis' conversation in the car and fun lines like Connor's "SHOWTIME!") and
replaced by "alternate" takes. Despite all the editing and digital tampering, HIGHLANDER 2 will always be a headache unless Davis &Panzer do major reshoots. Danny Dzilla
Rating: Summary: stands on its own Review: this movie finnaly gets somewhat a respectable makeover in this special edition. even though the plot is weak and is still the worst movie in the series it does fill some holes from the previous versions of this movie and this version actually can stand on its own as a movie. a whole disc for extras was cool also. lots of extras in the disc. if your a fan def check it out. if not but willing to take a chance why not. if ur neither then dont bother.
Rating: Summary: Highlander 2: A film gone wrong Review: Why do people make bad movies? What are they thinking when they write he screenplay or film the scene? When they saw the final cut of this film did they actually think this film was any good? I can't even begin to understand the minds of the morons in charge of this movie. The plot twist about the immortals being aliens could have worked if done properly. I remember seeing Highlander (which is a far superior movie) and wondering were they came from. The alien (and subsequent time travel) story could have worked but didn't because the writers were narrow sighted and did a halfway job. The alien thing worked for Dragonball, it could have worked here, but it failed terrably. The one of the worst sequels ever (but not worse than Highlander 3 or Lawnmower Man 2). I liked how the movie was true to the main story of Highlander, but hated how it butchured the flashbacks and history behind Highlander. The best scene was when Connor became young again and the scene when Connor and Ramerize meet again. Overall, a large dissapointment. Plus the Renagade version wasn't any better.
