Review: I AM VERY SURPRISED THE DIRECTORS CUT VERSION IS NOT OUT IN THE U.S. AS I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA AND I SAW THIS ON THE SHELF AND GRABED IT STRAIGHT AWAY I HAVE HAD THE 131 MINUTE VERSION FOR A LONG TIME AND SAW THIS VERSION WHICH SAID ITS RUNNING TIME IS 180 MINUTES THIS VERSION HAS THE PROLOGUE WHICH EXPLAINS WHAT HAPPENED IN THE YEAR 6000 AND WHY THEY HAVE THE SPACING GUILD AND THE BENIJESERAT SISTERHOOD THEN GOES FORWARD TO THE YEAR 10000 WHERE THE STORY STARTS IT EXPLAINS THE PLOTS IN MORE DETAIL AND THERE IS A LOT OF EXTRA SCENES NOT SEEN IN MY OTHER VERSION

Review: I Feel that even with the time gone by & the tv version out. I believe that with the dvd format they should include more with this edition. The edition is so plain jane goodtimes Home video may as well have bought the licensining rights to DVD. About 5-8 years ago the (David lynch/ A.K.A. Alan smithiee directors version) of dune was released on vhs for THE U.S.A. & a non widescreen VCD version for japan. The directors version is a far superior film, then the 1984 release "with the liner notes" that no wonder the film was a box-office dissapointment. WHEN DAVE? WHEN IS it Gon Be YOUR TIME! WHEN? However, The concepts of Mr.Lynch & De Larentis out does even, frank herberts sad But, complete tv version & should be released the way it was intended.

Summary: From a big Dune fan...
Review: I give this four stars rather than five because of the serious plot changes. There is much in this movie that was not in the book. The Sci-Fi Channel version is much better on that count, but it was done on a lower budget and it shows. I assume that this DVD has the theatrical release. Those that have seen the TV version will note that there are many scenes missing on the DVD. On the TV version the colorization for the eyes was not done for the added scenes, and an intro with background info was added.

Review: I have not seen this particular one but i am very frustrated because i cannot find the directors cut anywhere. Maybe if i knew where it can be located i would go out buy it and watch it and give a proper review of the version. If anyone can be nice enough to send me more info it would be much appreciated. I am a big fan of this classic. The last time i saw the uncut was on late night disney channel(where did they get it)

Review: I have seen two of what I have heard are three versions of this movie.

The versions being:

1)The 2.5 hour Theatrical Release
2)The 4 hour TV/Directors cut (The one everyone is looking for but has not been released to own on US soil for some strange reason)
3)A Japanese edition that incorporates elements of #1 and #2

I recently saw that #2 has made it's way to DVD in several otherr countries. England and Australia among them. I am personally watching the DVD market in Canada for a copy of #2 there since Canada is also a Region 1 country. However if you have a region free dvd player feel free to order Dune Version two from the other countries. Also remember that there is no complete version of Dune. Dino DeLaurentis shot somewhere in the neighborhood of five hours of footage for this film and there were still scenes that were either never shot or effects added beyond that.

Personally even though this version of Dune has been slammed I personally feel that this movie captures the feel of the Novel a whole frellin heck of alot better than the SCI-Fi miniseries. Frank Herbert's own words described that DeLaurentis's film was entirely close to his vision. He especially felt that Kyle Maclachlan was an excellent choice for Paul. Kyle Maclachlan also had stated that he had read the original novel "Dune" at least once a year since he was fourteen, thus he was very familiar with the material. I felt that the SCI-Fi miniseries downplayed the religious aspect too much and up played the political, falling more in line with Frank Herbert's son's sequels and prequels. Then again it is only an opinion, and someone else may disagree it is all a matter of preference. I only gave this version three stars because I will give the four hour version five if and when we ever see it on DV in the US.

Summary: This version is good, but the 4-hr. version is much better!
Review: I love the books and really enjoy this film. However, some people have told me they find this film a bit confusing. Perhaps because I've read all of the books, I can make sense of this shortened version.

For those who find it hard to follow, and haven't read the books, the 4-hour version of the movie makes a heck of a lot more sense! Let's keep looking for it; it's got to come out sometime...

In the meantime, this is a very enjoyable film, and I find it much more enjoyable and more true to Herbert's work than the more recent production.

Summary: Could Somebody Tell Me What is Going ON???
Review: I was raised watching dune on TV, but when I finally bought it on DVD, a LOT,and I mean A LOT of stuff was missing. The first thinig was the intro, on TV, they gave a background story type thing, but on the DVD, it starts out with the Emperor's Daughter. Where did that come from?? May be it was the theatrical release??? That was way before my time. Another thing that is missing is the fight scene between Paul and the fremen guy when Paul and his mother crash land on Iracus. You know, the one where he kills the guy and then they suck the water out of his body and Paul gets his Fremen name. That Seriously screws up the plot, not to mention the bad editing, when that scene is taken out. I mean, it is just like it was hacked out of the movie. Anyway, Dune is a classic movie, it is not hard to understand if you see it a couple of times. It was just So ahead of its time, it still competes with the other movies out there today!
