Rating: Summary: OK sequel, Excellent DVD Review: The first species introduced us to Natasha Henstridge as the most beautiful alien ever. It was a surprise hit so here comes the sequel. Not as good as the first one, but how many sequels are. We see less of Natasha and it significantly reduces the entertainment element. However, the DVD transfer is solid. The picture quality is very good and the Dolby 5.1 surround is excellent with plenty of surround activities. MGM included rough cuts of the deleted scenes with terrible picture quality. I wish they take the time to clean the deleted scenes into something that can match the picture quality of the main feature. Overall, this DVD worths your time.
Rating: Summary: Waste of time Review: Possibly the worst movie ever made. The only redeeming feature is the totally gratuitous, 30 second Natasha Henstridge nude scene at the very end -- as beautiful as she is, it's 93 minutes you'll never get back. The whole movie plays like it took less time to write than it's taken me to write this review.Don't say you weren't warned.
Rating: Summary: So bad it's almost entertaining Review: There's something very ironic about the two Species films. The first one was terrible because of it's stupidity and relentlessly boring action/nudity scenes. The sequel, Species 2, is almost as bad but it's the film's sheer awfulness that actually makes it watchable. That's not saying the film's any good, of course. Species 2 features more gory violence and a little less sex/nudity than the original but by keeping the running time short and by making the plot a lot more ridiculous (with the addition of the Mars landing and the cloning of the original alien, Sil, into Eve) the film is bearable and never boring. Primarily, the film seems to be out to make a quick buck so it doesn't try much of anything innovative. As another critic put it, it's a perverse and horny version of Alien. That obviously means the film's going to be full of nudity, which it is. The same goes for excessive violence, and the film does feature some very gory scenes that could have somebody reaching for a sick bag. Performance-wise, there's nothing new here. Michael Madsen looks a little bored, George Dzundza overacts completely, and Mykelti Williamson spouts some very inane dialogue. The only person who delivers something close to a respectable performance is Marg Helgenberger. Justin Lazard as the alien/human on the loose sometimes does a decent job looking scared and occasionally menacing but he's mostly laughable. As for Natasha Henstridge, this film confirms what I believed after having seen the origin: she cannot act. I'm not even sure what her real purpose in the film is. I mean, she doesn't show much nudity (and when she does she's covered in blood: that's quite an uncomfortable sight) and the whole psychic link idea doesn't really do much. On the whole, those looking for mindless gory violence and nudity will get their fill with Species 2. Everybody else needs to steer clear. Though if you're looking for a film of this similar plot, I recommend Lifeforce (a fun and okay sci-fi thriller with a gorgeous extraterrestrial seductress).
Rating: Summary: Better than the original. Review: I had first seen the film Species on HBO and thought it was okay. I didn't like it that much. When I found out that MGM was making Species II, I went to the MGM website and found out all about the movie. The effects are amazing and the film keeps up with the horror, suspense, and action. It's worth watching.
Rating: Summary: Yawn Review: This movie would have been so cool had it been the first in the series but almost nothing changed the plot changed, slightly; the special effects are a little better as well.
Rating: Summary: Much gore and sex, but not bad Review: This movie contains a lot of gory, disturbing, sexy and violent scenes, but the good special FX makes this movie not another bad horror movie (I only didnt like the alien at the end). Allright, there are some bad acting performances, but who cares in this genre. If you are going to see this movie, you want to be shocked. And believe me, you will be. If you are going to see this movie, see it on DVD. It has some fun extra's and it has good sound and picure quality. But don't expect a good story.
Rating: Summary: Species 2? Review: ...they should have called it Feces 2.
Rating: Summary: Boring, but nice bird ! Review: Well, I got this one thinking it was a horror, Its got some great effects but most of the time it does not hold my attention for more than a few minutes. I get the impression that the main selling point for the film was not the horror but the chance to see Henstridge walking around naked all the time..... thats nice but if you need that kind of thing buy a porno ! Henstridge is alright but my girlfriend has got a much better body ! hehehe. This film is just dull, too much playboy channel not enough sci-fi channel. I do have to say that the suicide scene is COOL !
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the original, but worth watching. Review: If you liked the original Species movie from 1995, you might like this one, but don't be suprised if you don't like it. I would not rate this as high as the original, but it is still worth watching. A typical sequel living off of the original success. Natasha Henstridge did a much better job of playing the alien hybrid in the original movie. The movie starts out with a 3 person space flight to Mars taking soil and rock samples and the rest of that stereotypical astronaut stuff. Once the astronauts return to earth, all of the excitement begins. If the choice is to watch this or an evening of sitcoms, then my choice would be to pick this movie, but there are many other movies around that would be a better purchase.
Rating: Summary: JUSTIN LAZARD IS THE ONLY GOOD THING IN HERE Review: Species 2 is a really bad movie! Justin Lazard is the only good thing in this movie. He gives a great performance and he puts everyone else to shame. I hope to see more of him. The three stars go to him. The movie itself gets zero.
