Summary: The best sci-fi in years.
Review: This film has it all. Great story, romance, edge-of-the-seat suspense, friendship between two men, sibling rivalry and first rate acting. Highlights for me were the great Alan Arkin as the hard-nosed homicide detective and the strangely ultra-beautiful Uma Thurman. I've seen Ms. Thurman in several films and hardly thought twice about it. Here she has a lead role as Vincent's romantic interest as a dignified normal woman (sorry Poison Ivy) who isn't as genetically perfect as she wants and she makes the best of it. It doesn't get any better than this.

Summary: SIMPLY AMAZING!
Review: I loved this movie! It makes you reconsider everything you've ever thought about being perfect. Ethan Hawke was great in this part. Everyone should see this. Too think that people would be so predjudiced as to think someone was stupid because they were not genetically engineered... The film gets slightly predicable, during the love interest portion, but other than that it's spectacular. I reccommend this to everyone!

Summary: One man's triumph over a Nietzschean future.
Review: With "Gattaca", screenwriter and director Andrew Niccol has created a dystopia to rival "1984", "Brave New World", "THX 1138", and "Logan's Run". Its sterile, genetically-tailored brilliance is all the more terrifying when we realize very few of us living now could hope to achieve anymore than servitude to its "ubermensche", because of our genetic "inadequacies".But with Vincent Freeman, the film's protagonist, we have cause for hope against such an ignoble fate. Although he is like us, (that is, naturally-born), Vincent, using only the borrowed genetic pattern and identity of an engineered athlete, pursues his dream of going into space (a career reserved only for the enhanced) with his own untailored brain, physique and will. Thus, we see how human desire can overcome even a society's dictate of perfection. Vincent joins such famous fictional rebels as Winston Smith, Bernard Marx, THX 1138, and Logan 6 in this noble effort. Ethan Hawke, Uma Thurman, Jude Law, Lorne Dean, Alan Arkin, Gore Vidal, and Ernest Borgnine all play their parts with subtlety and depth with Niccol's exquisite screenplay and direction. The film's look, stark and elegant, is a visual feast. The photography is gorgeous, wholly capturing the society's brittle beauty.As science fiction at its finest, "Gattaca" is a film that not only causes you to wonder about what is possible, but also to fear what may be coming.

Summary: A great "what-if" masterpiece
Review: Gattaca is probably the only acceptable sci-fi movie since 1984, which quietly and believably adds that all-too-rare science element into the story, thus adding credible fact to the fiction. In the light of the many "thunderballs and laserbeam special FX" monstrosities currently being churned-out- Jurrasic Park, Sphere, Starship Troopers and the ilk -Gattaca serves as an apostasy against turgid, vapid quick-buck movie-making. Its eloquent story-line notwithstanding, the movie shines in all departments, from the confident direction of Andrew Niccol, to the stylish costume, set and production designs, to the dreamy cinematography and mood music, to the beautifully restrained performances of the the actors (and actress!) An instant classic, surely. Why wait for next year...?

Review: Despite the favorable reviews I've read, I have to say that this movie left me wanting more. Actually, the only good thing I have to say about this movie is that it was a beautiful presentation of life in another science fiction situation. The plot was not as interesting and thought provoking as Contact. The DVD did however provide a few extras like a humorous out take. This movie is not worth owning, but would make a good conversational topic. Go rent it. END

Summary: A combination of fine cinematography,acting, and music.
Review: The basis of the story, the art direction, as well as the great cast of characters go in synch with the beautiful soundtrack to show us an image of the not so distant future, with its prejudices,as well as the drive to get ahead in society as we presently know. The 1950's style is an interesting reflection of just how often former fashions, hairstyles, and body language can be repeated years later. A breathtaking expirience, with fabulous regards to Jude Law, Uma Thurman, and Ethan Hawke in their roles. A MUST SEE movie, A MUST BUY soundtrack. END

Review: Even for people who do not watch very many Sci-Fi movies, Gattaca is worth seeing. Although at times it portrays slighty strange views of the "near future" the story is absolutely fascinating! END

Summary: ONE OF 1997'S BEST FLICKS!
Review: I was not expecting this film to have as much heart put into the story as it did. I was stunned that Columbia/Tristar released this fine piece of work. Andrew Niccol took an incredible yet disturbing vision of the future and turned into one of the most original and entertaining films of 1997. I recently saw Mr. Niccol's newest shot at the big screen, "The Truman Show" and once again was not disappointed. We need more people like Andrew Niccol to write using their imagination and not for the sake of special effects. Thanks Andrew!! END
