Rating: Summary: Can you escape the Hypercube? Review: The Cube is back to take on new prisoners. Who will die? Who will survive? This time it is a Hypercube. More deadly than the first Cube in CUBE (1998). More interesting characters and personalities. If the ending of the first film was not satisfying for you, the ending of this movie is quite different and shocking. The SCI-FI CHANNEL just recently broadcast this sequel, but the DVD version contains more profane language, blood and some nudity. The Special Features are deleted scenes, behind-the-scenes, trailers, storyboard and slide show. An alternate ending is also included in the deleted scenes. Followed by CUBE ZERO (2004)
Rating: Summary: Amazing!!! Review: I just rented the film. I have to say that I loved it! Needless to say that it doesn't have the originality of the first "Cube", but from a mathematical-speculative point of view is an evolution. (It wouldn't count as a spoiler to say that while in "Cube" the maze is composed by sliding cubes, in "Hypercube" the maze is not composed by cubes but by, precisely, hypercubes. Furthermore... are those hypercubes moving too??? It just kept my head spinning for a while!)I give it 5 stars because it's a film that will appeal greatly to the math/science aficionados, even when the film majors probably will find a thousand and one reasons to criticize it.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the first.... Review: I would have to agree with a previous reviewer in that I didn't see why this movie needed to be made. I understand that the first gained a lot of popularity in the home video market, which prompted someone to try and cash in with a sequel, but this didn't really seem like a sequel, but more of a flashy remake of the original that couldn't cut it. I really liked the original, and I was curious about this one. What I found were slick special effects, some decent acting, but very little of the charm that the original had. And this whole new concept of the cube crossing into the 4th dimension, distorting time, space, reality, etc. was kinda hard to swallow. To me, that was like the makers of the movie were saying "Hey, it's a dimensional thing, so we can do whatever we want, and you have to accept it." The original relied more on charatcers and story, while the sequel relied too heavily on special effects and the popularity of the first one. I wasn't expecting this one to be as good as the first, but I was disappointed at the lack of originality. It was like they took the first one, threw in a bunch of special effects, and drained out all the charm. Not bad, but not good, either. In the first movie, relationships were actually developed with the characters, and you began to care about what happened to them. Some you didn't want to see get hurt, which helped build suspense, while others you were waiting for them to get what was coming to them. In this movie, there was very little or none of that. I could have cared less what happened to any of the characters. I would recommend the original and maybe passing this one up all together.
Rating: Summary: Not as good as the first, but engaging nonetheless... Review: After seeing the first one, I went out and rented this one. I wasn't too dissapointed, but I wasn't too thrilled with it either. Basically the same premise with a whole bunch of new twists and characters. It's good enough to keep you interested, and the writing isn't too bad. There are some plot holes here and there, and plenty of cheesy special effects, but it was good. I am still trying to decide whether I liked the ending or not. Other than that... Recommended!
Rating: Summary: the cube 2 - lost in space Review: Total dissapointment. Some effect's are nice done (parralel worlds, time shifting, some booby traps), but there are only few of it. Cube 1 was much more better, the sequel looks like nothing compared to the first one.In fact is was borrowing, and I suddenly was really waiting for the film to end looking at my DVD-counter. The end itself I totally didn't get. What should be the clue here ? It didn't explain or clear things up, Who where those people, what kind of experiment was it, ...? Why did she had some kind of recording device ? I'm really lost here. All in one: don't spend time looking at this one. Try another movie instead, or see it if you can't sleep....
Rating: Summary: Why did they make a second? Review: I am a HUGE fan of the first "CUBE." I have seen CUBE many of times and each time it gets me. Its intense and I care about all of the characters. Now with "Cube 2: Hypercube: I didn't feel anything for the characters. Classified as Horror/Scifi I tend to think of CUBE as a psychological thriller. After awhile its the characters you are interested in and not the dang CUBE they are in. CUBE 2 I just didn't have that connections. Gerant Wyn Davies from early 90's good vampire (pre Angel) TV show Forever Night I liked cause he was familiar face, but in reality he became the same character as Quentin was in the first movie. Actually many of the characters pretty much are just the same in away as the characters in the first one. Here they added a few more, but overall nothing new. That bothered me. CUBE 1 had great feel with the colors of the different rooms. Cube 2 everything is white and nothing seems dangerous. The colors added to the intensity, Cube 2 the white didn't do anything for the intensity of the film. If you loved the first Cube I say watch this one. You actually appreciate the first CUBE a lot better. Cube 2 wasn't a bad flick at all, its just a part 2 wasn't needed. Ending of part 1 had my thinking all night, and the ending for part 2 I was already done thinking about it when the credit's rolled.
Rating: Summary: I can't believe I wasted my time on this!!! Review: I can't believe I watched this piece of [stuff] for two hours only to have the most intelligent character shot (as in MURDERED) by the military at the very end. Excuse me, but what is the 'freakin' point? Other than this 'minor point', I found the oriental woman to be more than annoying throughout the entire film... annoying, pretentious, oh! maybe she was supposed to be an archetype for Yoko Ono! Maybe I was supposed to have seen the first film, but more than maybe this one just [smells.] For future reference to the director and producers of this film: you need a PLOT *and* GOOD CHARACTERS to create an environment where people *ACTUALLY* care about the people in the film. Special effects alone (and they *were* more than acceptable) can NOT save a film. Take a pass on this...
Rating: Summary: It's always the little blind girl darnit! Review: This sequal to Cube was surprisingly really good. A lot of the sequals to great movies i have seen pretty much stink. But this one doesn't. I was sadenned that I di not get all of the answers i would have like to receive. It was nice to no who makes the cubes. But why? How many are there? WHY?! The acting was terrific and a lot better than the first one. And you could really tell they had more money to use than in the first one. Good job yo!
Rating: Summary: Forget all the other reviews...... Review: People who have watched the first Cube are expecting the sequel to be terrible, but to my surprised it was pretty good. If you are not familiar with the whole Cube thing, the movie is about these total strangers put in a cube and they do not know how they got there. They have to find a way out, but their is one catch, each room/cube has a door you can use on each side to exit but the surprise is on the other side, could it be certain death or a brief moment of living. Of course it gets old after an hour but since they have more money on this one they were able to "up" the special effects which I may say is pretty good. Unlike the first Cube, this one is more psychological. The ending will just leave you thinking what just happened. I give the movie 4 stars because its an ok movie but the extra features are pretty small and average.
Rating: Summary: Not very well made Review: I thought the first cube was a great movie. Very claustrophobic and creepy. This was is far from it. There are no jumps or scares in this movie at all. The cube is hardly dangerous and seems to only have two or three booby traps, all of them very bad CG. Characters die with no explanation, the camera doesn't stop moving at all during some scenes making the viewer very nauscious, and the acting is quite sub par. It's got some interesting ideas and scenes, but really isn't worth anyone's time.
