Rating: Summary: One of the best science fiction films ever. Review: This is by far one of the best science fiction films of all time. It is incredibly suspensfull, the special effects are incredible, and the plot is fantastic. Also the acting was pretty good, but more importantly I felt truly attached to the main characters unlike the way I feel about many other films. I don't understand why it got bad reviews.
Rating: Summary: INDEPENDENCE DAY ROCKS! Review: I must have seen this sbout 7 times in theaters a long time ago. It was a big box office hit. Totally great excitment with totally 5 great stars!
Rating: Summary: Emmerich's Crowning Achievment Review: Finally on DVD. Independence Day is perhaps, one of the greatest films I've ever seen. I can't understand why it has had bad reviews, Centropolis Entertainment put a lot of hard work and effort into this film, the script was excellent, the special effects were fantastic and I must add that Randy Quaid's performance as Russel Casse was the most touching character of all of the film. Another favourite of mine from ID4 was the masterpiece patriotic score by David Arnold. Roland Emmerich's directing for ID4 was brilliant, as was the the production design by Patrick Tatopoulos and Oliver Scholl. I could go on forever saying good about this film, but all in all, it deserves an excellent 5 stars.
Rating: Summary: It was just a fun movie! Review: People who criticize "Independence Day" miss the point. This is not a movie about intellectual depth or character development. It is movie that gives you alot of action, fun and some good laughs. I thought "Independence Day" was great because it provided exactly what it was suppose to provide, action, fun and laughs. I also think that Judd Hirsch's character and the interaction between him and Jeff Goldblum was very funny. Those people who don't like "Independece Day" should have known from the reviews that this movie was not going to give them what they wanted and they have nobody but themselves to blame if they feel they wasted their time at the theater.
Rating: Summary: Not the worst film ever made, but well in competition Review: No, I don't say don;t go and watch it. find a good movie with huge screen and lates sound equipment, leave your IQ at home, and go enjoy it. But I'd not suggest anyone to watch this film at home on a tv set, or even on a usual home cinema system. The effects will not work out (in the movie the UFO really falls on you and the hall almost jumps) and all you get is the extremely dull story. Beware the other production of this film's makers. Stargate had a dumb story but at least you could watch quality desert shots. ID4 had an extremely dumb story but you at least could enjoy the effects. Godzilla had an even more dumb story, and nothing good to talk about. That is the real crap, better not watch that at all. And there sure will be Godzilla 2 soon, I fear to extrapolate te trend... This new release claims to have additional footage and other extras. Well, I better wait it come out and listen to other people's comments what is really there. And one more comment: after you've seen ID4 go and watch Mars Attacks! That will worth your money and time. Quack-quack.
Rating: Summary: To anyone who does not know what film making is all about Review: Independence Day is an excellent film, I don't know how anyone can give bad comment on a film like this. Ok, so the story line is very basic, but it does have excellent special effects and the film is put together quiet well. I know what some reviewers are saying, same old movie (alians invading earth)etc. Ok this may be true, but use your tiny brains in your head and think about it, are'nt are films made this way, these days, almost all films are copied, or are very similar to each other, all you need to do is give out some imagination. An excellent film, I'll recommend this film to anyone who likes sci-fi. Oh one more question, how can anyone review this film on DVD, if it isn't available yet!, unless their buying pirated DVD's, if this is the case, you don't deserve to own DVD.
Rating: Summary: Eye Candy Review: OK here's my take on this movie. When you watch it you have to realize that this a movie meant for entertainment value not quality cinema. One can see just from the previews that it was full of cheesy dialogue and countless plot holes. Yet when i see a movie like this i try to avoid thinking about those because this movie is meant soley to entertain. And at that i feel it excels greatly. It is full of great special effects and some nice action sequences and of course really big explosions. I feel that when you watch a movie you have to put it in its genre and rate it accordingly. Therefore you can not expect much from a movie like ID4. And above all this was a kids movie so of course the directors could do things like have plot holes because they knew there target audience wouldnt mind because they would be too caught up in the special effects. I say it did what it was meant to do. but if youre looking for a GOOD science fiction movie pass on this one and rent the original star wars or V
Rating: Summary: Excellent Movie Review: I have sat and watched this move a number of times and never get tired of it. The cast if top notch and the special effects are wonderful. Of course, it's pure escapist so it should be judged on just what is presented to you...not reality.
Rating: Summary: Good special effects are not enough. Review: One of the most ridiculous scenes in movie history is when the Fresh Prince and Jeff (for a change I'll play a scientist in this movie) Goldblum fly into the mother ship totally unabated, connect to the mother ship's main computer with a laptop (I guess the aliens must have an 800 number to dial in), download a virus (appearently they don't have Norton Anit-Virus either), and disable the entire alien fleet. I have more trouble logging on to the network at work! This is only one of a number of glaring holes in the plot that simply insults your intelligence. Another example is when Jeff discovers the countdown that the aliens are broadcasting around the world to tell them when to attack. Don't they have clocks in their spaceships? Can't they just say, "everyone attack at 3:00"? Sometimes when you watch a movie, you need to overlook some minor defects with the story in in order to enjoy the film as a whole, but this movie just goes too far. Yes, this film has some very good special effect. And yes, it does have some good action sequences, but that is not enough to carry a bad script. There are films out there like Terminator 2, for example, that have great special effects and action sequences but also have good strong scripts. Demand more from your movies. Don't settle for just a few exposions on the screen.
Rating: Summary: An Utterly Disgusting Disappointment... Review: When the teaser trailers for this movie first appeared about a year before its release in the summer of '96, I was expecting an incredible film kind of like "V: The Final Battle" mixed together with the Japanimation "Macross" saga rolled into action scenes like "Empire Strikes Back". Instead, we get Will Smith trash-talking an alien he is dogfighting with like he might do to an opponent in the basketball court, a president who flies a fighter plane in the last scene, and way, way. waaaaay too much focus on the American aspect of the "alien invasion." I felt that this film could have done sooooo much more than it did had it focused more on how people in other parts of the world dealt with the aliens, and the plot would have been far more interesting if the aliens had landed ground forces. Oh, and by the way, did anyone catch the scene where Will Smith's girlfriend is driving a truck through the devastated and leveled Los Angeles? All the buildings were utterly destroyed, but there were two swaying palm trees, apparently unscathed by the nuclear holocaust. Must've been *alien* trees, huh?
