Summary: The 2nd Best Movie of the Year!!!
Review: Dark City is easily one of the best movies of the decade. The science fiction is so rich that comparisons to Star Wars, 2001, and especially Metropolis are justified. Dark City is not for the weak minded, I must warn you though. Also, if you like Dark City, see The Matrix with Keanu Reeves. It just came out.

Summary: One of the best films of all time
Review: Everybody I know who has seen this movie has loved it. I like it mainly because of the style(dark lighting, mysterious plot, mysterious characters), and I liked the acting too. I would definitly recomend this video to any body you know. They won't be disappointed.

Summary: Buy the WIDESCREEN version
Review: This is a movie that is nothing less than beautiful to look at. The characters are weak but with film noir style they are suppose to be. One thing though: how the heck did they find all those extra PinHead outfits from HellRaiser?

Summary: Greatest SF film of the last 30 years! Maybe ever!
Review: I know it sounds like excessive praise but if you've seen this film you know how good it is. I truly don't know whether this is a better science fiction film than 2001 by Kubrick but I can tell you that in terms of characters and themes Dark City has no equal in the genre. This film is a treat for your eyes and ears and for your mind. You may rethink what it means to be yourself, what it means to be human. OK, the plot: John Murdoch doesn't remember his life clearly and the police are seeking him in a series of prostitute murders. What Murdoch finds is that aliens called "strangers" are also seeking him in their quest to understand the human soul. The world Murdoch explores is like our own but very different. This is as much about characters as it is about the plot and the actors do a wonderful job making the characters exist for us. The great work of Rufus Sewell should have garnered more notice. He gives a performance that makes us aware of our own humanity and identity. And the beautiful and underrated Jennifer Connelly is perfect as Murdoch's wife and love interest (not necessarily the same thing.) Connelly always looks delicious but here we get to see her really do some fine acting in a difficult role. William Hurt as Police Inspector Bumstead rounds out the questing trio of humans who don't know what's happening in their lives. The great work of Keifer Sutherland is surprising also because it's like nothing I've ever seen from him. His Dr. Schreber serves as the narrator and the catalyst. The aliens are the coolest ones ever. If you hated that band in the cantina in Star Wars this is your kind of movie! The DVD has the valuable commentary track from the creative team and also one from film critic Roger Ebert. These will add to your enjoyment and the Ebert commentary will increase your appreciation for all of the performances, especially Jennifer Connelly's as Emma. The film looks wonderful in widescreen and sounds very impressive. If you haven't seen it, see it now! If you have seen it, see it on DVD and prepare to be challenged, thrilled and rewarded. It may not be the best SF film ever, but it's the one I want to watch over and over again, the one I remember and think about. That must mean something.

Summary: Dreamy DVD
Review: On first seeing this film at the cinema, it was clear that the writer and director had clearly set out to create a dream environment. Dark City's visuals are typical sci fi / Bladerunner and if you're looking for a disc to show off your DVD player this isn't it. Having said that the picture quality is very good (it's just not bright and sunny in the film very often).

The film isn't a masterpiece as falls short of the mark due to the over obvious and blatant script which unlike Bladerunner decides to explain everything to the audience (are we more than our memories etc.) 50 times over rather than alluding to it.

The DVD itself has an excellent commentary from the writer, director, production designer and director of photography.

Summary: Stunning
Review: Dark City provided me with one of the few experiences a movie ever does for me... saying "wow!" The computer effects are a huge aspect of the film, but it's far from being a movie like Twister, where they are what the film is, carried by no plot. Dark City combines stunning imagery and an incredibly imaginative script with absolutely awesome sets. The acting by everyone is superb. This is a definatey film you'll want to keep.

Summary: Dark City's visuals are haunting
Review: Every time I see this movie -- and I've seen it...well, a bunch of times --, I'm drawn back into its dark images as if watching it anew. It's a terrific, brooding piece of work. So if you like contemporary fantasy and haven't seen this one, you're missing out on a truly imaginative film.

Summary: Not bad, but not good either
Review: I didn't like this movie that much. It had it goods parts, but overall, it could've been much better. That's why I give it 3 stars
