Rating: Summary: Don't be turned off by all the negativity Review: I remember the 70's version of this film and have always loved it. This 90's update does take certain liberties with technology, but it just goes with the times we're living in. The film does not lack plot at all. It is a bit bizarre, but if you're an enjoyer of all things strange, you should have no problem with it. I like how the characters seem to be deranged and lunatic. Perhaps this is what happens when you isolate yourself on an island for years, playing God. If you've read the original novel by Wells, don't expect the movie to be 100% right with the book. You know movies never do that.
Rating: Summary: The Island of Dr. Moreau Review: How is it that this supremely bad film is available on DVD, yet GOOD films by star Brando and director Frankenheimer are nowhere to be seen? Where are the DVD versions of "The Godfather", "On The Waterfront", "Seven Days in May", "Seconds" or my fave "The Iceman Cometh"?
Rating: Summary: WHAT IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE! Review: You're serious. You like it. Ohmigod, you LIKE this movie? Maybe Moreau wasn't just working on that one island...This is a very very very very very very bad movie. The world is not big enough to contain very's this movie deserves. (8 trillion times infinity at the very least) Tasteless, unfunny (though I did like the little piano guy) and generally bad. The guy below hit the nail on the head. You don't actually LIKE any of these people! The hero, Prendick is a wimp. The cat girl is just dumb. Montegomery is um, strange. (What was the POINT of his Brando impression?) Close your eyes, overcome the vivesection and repeat after me. I will read the book, I will read the book, I will read the book... Join my campaign to destroy the master copy of this movie. Or better, have them dump every single on Congress, they wouldn't know the difference between that and one of their daily sessions.
Rating: Summary: Worst Movie Ever! Review: In one of the worst decisions of my life, I wasted a Saturday night viewing this movie in the theatre. Now, I've never been a Val Kilmer fan, but I thought that Marlon Brando's acting talents would make this movie at least watchable. However, even the performance of this great actor was difficult to endure. The characters were all equally impossible to like, and the plot was entirely predictable. Given a choice between seeing this movie again and having unnecessary surgery, I would choose the latter.
Rating: Summary: What's wrong with you people? Review: This movie was cool! The only thing I thought was a little much was the mouse men. They were admitedly a bit silly. Other than that, this movie rocked. Anything that starts with an atttack by a tiger shark can't be half bad. The credits were an homage to David Finchers amazing work on Se7en. David Thewlis, whom we only know from Dragoheart, was exceptional I thought, as were the other cast. The animal characters were sooo cool, that I wanted the film to go on forever. This is especially true with the leopard man who dies almost as soon as he is introduced. He was showed so prominantly in the previews that I thought he would have a bigger part. I loved this movie from beginning to end and have seen it many times as I have the LD. I wish someone would write about the interviews on the DVD so I can decide if it's worth it to replace my LD. I also kind of have a problem with the MPEG2 compression used on DVDs in that black areas get really pixelly. Does anybody else have this problem?
Rating: Summary: I DONT SEE WHAT THE BIG DEAL IS...??? Review: I have to say I dont see what the big deal is. I had to make myself stay awake to watch this movie, to me it just seemed to go nowhere. Iv prabaly forgotten more movies than most people have ever seen, and I have to say this was one of the worst ones I have ever seen !!
Rating: Summary: Wacky but smart enough to hold some people's attention Review: I loved the book on witch this movie was based. It is andalways has been, a favorite of mine. I also would like to point out topeople that it has almost no likeness to the movie. But that doesn't make the movie bad by any means. The Island OF Dr. Moreau is an excellent movie about the disintegration of the homan mind. David Thewlis ( a tremendous actor ) starts out as a curious castaway and ends up being a semi-mad crusader trying to bring down whatever is left of Moreau's work. Val Kilmer wasn't all there to begin with, but he eventually turns into a Brando mocking, drug gulping, lunatic. And Brando is well..... always crazy. Its even more interesting to see the creatures gain intelligence and bravery. John Frankenheimer is an excellent director and he has truly accomplished a cult classic.
Rating: Summary: Brando-fat but still (an eccentric) genius Review: WOW! What a refreshingly different film (a little freaky too-like the original). Call me nuts but I loved it. Brando had me laughing for quite a while after the piano scene with his smallest "child". The cast is GREAT and so is the make-up.
Rating: Summary: Impresive Adaptation of novel. Review: Well, after reading many dissapointing reviews at IMDB, I believe the film is a success. I inititially read the book and then watched the film and it was a perfect adaptation. So many criticized this because of the story but it is essentially the same exact story in the book and it was neat to see how the two adapted from each other. The acting was excellent, especially from the only sympathetic character of the human pussycat played by The Craft's Fairuza Balk. Val Kilmer was good, Brando fit the role an it was fun to see how his appearance has changed from A Streetcar Named Desire. See what happens when people don't exercise. Impressive creations in this weird film.
Rating: Summary: awesome Review: Of course the movie does no justice to the book,Its a MOVIE.No films are as good as the book. But instead of judging it from the book, try to see it as just a regular film. No matter what all the critics said I loved it.
