Rating: Summary: WHO MADE WHO? WE MADE YOU! Review: LET ME JUST SAY THIS MOVIE ROCKS!!!! IF ANYBODY WAS EVER WONDERING WHAT IT WOULD BE LIKE IF ALL THE MACHINES TURNED ON HUMAN, THIS WOULD BE THE MOVIE TO WATCH. AC/DC WHO MADE WHO WAS THE FIRST CD I EVER BOUGHT AND I STILL PUT IT ON TO THIS DAY. THIS IS MORE OF A SCI FI THAN HORROR FLICK, BUT HEY IT STILL ROCKS ALL THE SAME. EMILIO ESTEVEZ IS GREAT AND THE OTHER CHARACTERS ARE EQUALLY AS AWESOME. BUT THE REAL STAR OF THIS FILM IS THE HAPPY TIME TOY TRUCK WITH THE EVIL TROLL ON THE GRILL,IT IS THE MASTERMIND OF THE EVIL MACHINES. ALSO LOOK FOR STEPHEN KING HIMSELF AT HE BEGINNING WITH THE MOVIE'S FUNNIEST LINE; "HEY HONEY, THIS THING JUST CALLED ME AN A@#HOLE" A TRUE 80'S CLASSIC ONE FANTASTIC PIECE OF NOSTALGIA. IF YOU ARE NOT A FAN OF KING, THAN SEE IT FOR THE ROCKIN SOUNDTRACK BY THE GREATEST BAND ALIVE ...... AC/DC. 5 STARS WAY UP!!!
Rating: Summary: Maximum Overdrive rocks! Review: Stephen King has a way of adding something creative to any genre of movie(such as trucks taking on the nature of a pack of wolves in MO). In this sci-fi/semi-horror film, you can't help but just sit back and be entertained from the rampant killing, explosions, and destruction from the start. Now in the 21st century, it definitely looks "80's", but thats part of its charm. Recommended.
Rating: Summary: they dont make em like this anymore Review: A few horror gems hold a special place in my heart. I get all sentimental and choked up. Basketcase..return of the deadly spawn, and maximum overdrive are just such flicks. I think i will go to my dying day and never forget that truck with the joker face on it. It was just an evil, evil truck. Before the machines turned humanity to goop in the matrix, pop machines were kicking butt here! Blenders were blending hands, trucks were making marinara out of their owners and basically anything that ran electrically gave their owners a bad day...or 2...or 3. A few folks hole up in a side of the road dive and fill and make their stand against the hordes of trucks waiting for them outside. We get generous helpings of the ketchup (someone tell me what the hell catsup is?) in this one. A coach gets his head pulverized by a pissed off pop machine. Think it over folks next time you want to kick that coke machine when it eats your quarters! Lawnmowers cut more than the lawn, trucks run people over. Its pretty much bad times for anything with a pulse. For T&A, we get some shiny chrome bumpers on trucks and a nice set of blades on the lawnmowers. Not much to get a rise out of the living. This is one of Kings rare films that was done well. Maybe thats because he helmed this one himself. If your going to watch a king movie, steer clear of the made for TV shlitz and go for the juggular with this one.
Rating: Summary: Campy & Underrated film. Review: When an Invisible force of Aliens takes over the World in over a Week. The force uses the Machines to attack on the Whole Population on Humans. The force uses all kinds of thing, especially-Trucks. When Citizens & Workers are Stuck in a Truck Stop, the People ended up fighting for thier lives.Written & Directed by Stephen King (Cat's Eye, Silver Bullet, Sleepwalkers) made a dumb but entertaining film. The film's stars:Emilio Estevez, Pat Hingle, Laura Harrington & Yeardley Smith (Who voiced-Lisa Simpsons on the Animated Hit-The Simpsons). This was a Box Office flop on it's release. This is still today, extremely underrated but it's not the worst-Stephen King film. DVD's has an sharp anamorphic Widescreen (2.35:1) transfer & an digitally remastered-Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. The Laserdisc Edition has a Commentary Track by King. Too Bad, the DVD doesn't have his Commentary. DVD Extras are Stephen King Bio and an Excellent funny Trailer. It's worth seeing for Stephen King fans & Curious viewers. King had to cut a 11 Seconds to not get an X-Rating. Great Rock Score by AC/DC. Joe Dunton Camera Widescreen (J-D-C Scope). Grade:A-.
Rating: Summary: Who Made Who.....Man VS Machine Review: Beeing a big AC/DC fan I will actually give you a review that dosent have anything to do with the great sound track! I give this movie about 3 and a half. This was the very first movie that Steven King did himself, and I think it might have been the last? In the trailer, Steven King says somthing like "if you want it done right, you have to do it yourself, and I will scare you" but i gotta honestly say, he failed at that unfortunalty.... I remember when it first came out it did scare me, but i was about 6 years old at the time and the big boys and grown up's where watching it.... but years later when I found out that AC/DC had done a soundtrack to a movie, i went and rented it.... And was plesently suprised to see it was that movie that scared me all those years ago. But the second time around did nothing to scare me. Overall, the movie i dont think is that bad, its definitly not scary, its not the best acting, its not totally suspensfull, and it has some weird twists and turns... but to quote AC/DC's rhythem guitarist Malcolm Young "It's not all that great of a movie, but its still better then alot of the crap you see these days!" And I fully agree with him! Sure, yeah, the soundtrack is mostly 95% AC/DC and the album soundtrack to this movie is AC/DC's "who made who" but that isnt what makes me have a liking to the film.... actually, infact, I dont quite think AC/DC's music blends in with the picture to be honest! well, some do... but one that puzzles me is "For those about to rock" beeing played when they sneak over to the showers and then into the sewer pipes.... I dont understand any conenction with the song, music and scene to be quite honest... and a few others i could point out just dont match the moment or mood with the music thats selected, or mixed in at wrong moments... if you know what i mean? But apart from that, The movie as you shoudlve read by now is about a comet going over the world, and the machines come to life....and then the story goes into a group of people who are strandard in a gas station ...yadda yadda yadda.... my one question about the plot is, why dont the cars come alive? but anyway, the performance from the actors is not spectaculer.... but dont get me wrong, i hate award winning perfromances... so im ok with it, ive seen a hell of alot worse! The movie is allright... but i dont recomend you pay alot for it... i was able to pick mine up pretty cheap. The bonus features arnt anything to praise. Theres a trailer, and a bio of Steven King which lists all the movies he has had cameo's in and it's intresting to find out where he actually is in this movie!! "Honey, this machine just called me an (...) I dont consider trailers and wide screen to be any kind of bonus feature. those should and pretty much are, standard features. So this DVD basicly only comes with a bio on Steven King and nobody else... I think Emilio Estefes shoudlve gotten a filmography... and there should be more bonus features :( Maybe the "Who Made Who" video clip? that would make it worth the price alone for what it is at the moment! but unfortuanlty theres nothing... it might come in widescreen and surround sound, but i serisloy think the movie shoudl have had a bit more added to it in the bonus department to make it worth the while to purchase! (...)
Rating: Summary: it has its charm Review: This 1986 movie isn't the greatest (and the picture quality sucks), but it has its charm. It has the distinction of being the only movie Stephen King directed (he found directing to be such a horrible job that he vowed never to do it again). You've got Emelio Estevez in the lead role. None of the acting is spectacular and the story (written for the screen by King) leaves a little to be desired, but in the end, it is a good film. Or at least one I enjoy.
Rating: Summary: Low Gear Review: Not much here except this has been done before in different incarnations (DUEL, KILLDOZER, THE CAR) all of which are better films than this rehash. MAXIMUM OVERDRIVE suffers from being a one-note film with bad acting and terrible stunt work/special effects. There is no horror or suspense here except to watch a bunch of vehicles running over people picking them off one by one. Stephen King directs and it is truly a waste of time as cardboard characters don't do much except scream as they get oft. Sometimes horror movies have unintentional humor to get a few laughs. This film doesn't even have that to make it memorable. It takes the subject matter too seriously even if the subject matter is really a funny one when one thinks about it .Only thing good that came out of the film is the AC/DC song "Who Made Who?". It is too bad a film like this will be broadcast over and over again on cable or on network tv and a superior film like KILLDOZER will never be shown, and it can't even be found on tape or DVD.
Rating: Summary: Oh, my aching head... Review: People who really like this movie are either diehard Emilio Estevez or AC/DC fans. But if it takes more than that to trip your trigger, you will not enjoy this movie. It is little more than a forum for creative ways in which machines can maim people and pop their heads like grapes. The gore is over the top. The acting is... well, let's just say that Emilio is the best one here. The dialogue is laugh-inducing. Indeed, there is a high camp factor in this movie. If you want to have a few drinks with your buddies and laugh yourselves into a coma, this flick will do the trick (that's why it got two stars). But if you want more out of a movie than children getting run over by steamrollers, you'd best stay away from this garbage.
Rating: Summary: Started off good...but then got annoying! Review: This movie is about machines that come to life and kill humans. The cause is because of a comet that surrounded the earth. All I know is that this has to do with aliens. Anyway, the movie started off good with bloody moments of people getting killed by lawn mowers, arcade machines, trucks, soda machine, a tractor and etc. I thought it couldn't get any better but it didn't and i will tell you why. In the second half of the movie we are just focusing on the trucks and the people trapped in the gas station. I am like "yea we know about the trucks, but the other machines aren't doing anything anymore". The trucks begin circling the place and the people get caught. The characters, I didn't care about them much. The lead actor Emilio Estevez was suppose to be the hero, he only defeated a few trucks is that a hero. A little boy can actually understand what the machines are saying. I think that is totally overated, what human has a gift of understanding machines. A couple of the other characters have tantrums over nothing and I think the actors were not at their best. The ending really blew me. It ended when they defeated the truck with a green goblin on the front of it, this truck was the lead truck. They go sailing off on a boat and I am like "that's it, what about the rest of the machines?". Then a reading comes up that tells you what happened. The soundtrack was okay for me, but I am not into rock music! I was expecting scary, entertainment, and exciting film. But it was a disappointment. Mainly because of the bad actors, bad storyline, and just boring and stupid. But I added one star because it started off good. I will check out another Stephen king called "trucks" which is another movie by him and hopefully will be better than this!
Rating: Summary: Don't say he didn't try Review: What is more scarer then being stranded at a gas station, with diesel trucks that are going to plow you to the ground? That's is scary and real, that why this movie lives up to the stephen king standerd. The reson it got bad reviews, is becuse their pricks and they never seen stephen king at his best. And it's the best of any of his other movies they have put out
