Summary: Pi lives up to the 'independent film' look.
Review: As independent filmmakers are reciving more of the Hollywood spot light, one must not neglect the movie Pi. It's srange, offbeat, and intriging. If you are a math hound, you may find the mathmatical basis of this film to be rather weak and amature. But if you're like me, and you're mathmatically illiterate, that have at it. One of the most rewarding aspects of the film is the acting of Sean Gullette, who portrays the main character. Gullette is intense, and well, insane in this one. He does more for the plot than the plot does for him. Asthetically, Pi is very "film noirish," the useage of high grain B&W film stock creates a moody, paranoid atmosphere. Daron Aronfsky is talented indeed. Pi is his key to open those golden Hollywood doors.

Review: Those who thought this film was stupid, I don't know, go watch a Sandra Bullock movie or something, nimrod. Pi was easily the boldest, most original, most intellectually stimulating film of the past year.

Summary: Pi is not for the Amature movie goer
Review: With perhaps one of the best scripts of the century, Pi delivers in a unique style and presents the viewer with more to think about than any other film of the year. With an incredibly unusual approach to film (such as the fuzzy black and white appearance throughout the entire film) the director incinuates more than tells a story in Pi. On the whole, Pi is one of the greatest Independent films ever made, but a caution to the amature movie goer - this film is NOT mainstream. Don't expect to find an enduring, heartwarming film for the whole family - this one is for those who want to take back something from their film going experience and not just sit and blank out all thought.

Summary: Life in Numbers
Review: Pi is a fresh new take on an age-old philosophical question. Max has discovered a number that he thinks holds the key to every facet of life, and he beomes somewhat obsessed with it. Mankind has often come across complications when new knowledge is gained about life, and as Max finds out along the way, he's in for more than he bargained for. Pi's fast-paced action and drama keep you on the edge of your seat until the very end, and make you think about what numbers really have to do with the essence of life.

Summary: Awsome story and DVD
Review: Since nobody has said anything about the quality of the DVD content, here I go. First of all, the sound transfer was perfect. Nothing screwed up there. I don't think surround sound would have added anything at all.The "lost scenes" and behind-the-scenes footage was cool, but the director voiceovers on that part of the film made it excellent. It helped a lot to actually know about the random people shown in the behind-the-scenes footage. Speaking of voiceovers, the whole film is commented by the director and the lead actor. Very cool to watch, it explains some details of the film that you probably didn't know about before. Anyways, the DVD alone was just awsome how it was put together. That's not even mentioning the story line, which was disturbingly psychotic, but very intelligent. Buy this film!

Summary: Excellent film in the mad genuis genre.
Review: A genius number theorist pursues his obsession with unravelling the secret to the underlying pattern to the universe. As he gets closer to his goal, he grows closer to understanding God, and closer to madness. His quest does not go unnoticed as two completely different groups (God and Satan?)fight to steal his discovery from him to further their own warped goals. This movie is extremely well done and truly fascinating.

Summary: An Incredible Work of Photography, Acting, and Story
Review: Pi is one of the most unique movies I have ever seen. It challenges the viewer, and although the movie does revolve around math, it does not require the viewer to understand mathematics at all. This movie makes brilliant use of black and white film which, although it sounds simple, is difficult to do in a film setting. Every actor creates a convincing and deep character who (for once) seems to be a (unusual) person taken out of the real world. This movie is not for everyone mainly because of disturbing images. Although disturbing, they do contribute to the overall genius of the film. I would whole-heartedly recommend this movie to anybody who has ever looked for truth.

Summary: The Hacker movie of 1998
Review: This is the ultimate Hacker's movie of 1998!The director does the impressive job of taking the hacking experience and faithfully putting it on the screen. The photography is great, they managed to shoot the entire film with only black and white, with no grey, which made for a really cool look. Also, the way the mixed in the soundtrack was great, it realy tied itself together. If you know what it feels like to hack for forty hours straight, this is the movie to see!

Summary: Wow. A Triumph of Independant Filmmaking
Review: This movie is one of the best of 1998. The central character, Max, is on a quest to find the pattern behind the stock market, and stumbles upon greedy Wall Street brokers and a Jewish cult. Anybody who watches this movie expecting to be hit over the head with an easy plot and simple characters will be disappointed, but for those of us who like to think and have our minds broadened, this is the movie. The cinematography, especially in the dream sequences, pokes the brain with its in your face black and white, and the music continues in the same vein. The extras are also amazing for anyone who cares to know how a terrific film is made on a miniscule budget.
