Summary: Still enjoyable after 5 viewings--thought provoking.
Review: Marred by only a few moments of eccentricity, this is a believable film. Great initial sequence and ending.

Summary: CONTACT hits the mark
Review: This was certainly one of the best sci-fi movies I've ever seen. It combines all the elements of a great drama and a sci-fi journey- the discovery of the alien signal from space and humanity's reaction to it. The theme of religious fanaticism and its threat to science was nicely depicted in the movie. Great performance by Jodie Foster.

Summary: THIS is what DVD is all about! A fine movie made better.
Review: "Contact" is a fine movie and I found in thoroughly engaging on the big screen. I rented and watched the VHS video when it came out and enjoyed it reasonably well. For fans of the movie, this DVD is a must. The audio commentaries (3 separate tracks) are endlessly fascinating and there are all kinds of extras. The people that put together this DVD package are to be congratulated!

Summary: First Look at SETI
Review: This is a very home-to-heart movie based on an equally great if not better book by Carl Sagan. This movie is one of the few that doesn't give us an outlandish look at extra-terrestrial life, but rather, and scientific view. This is also one the first movies I have seen that has endorsed SETI and made it a large yet subtle part of the movie. I can compare this to the season finale of Star Trek: The Next Generation, where a movie and a television show have a science fiction story underlined by an age-old moral. I don't want to spoil it for anyone who hasn't seen this movie. My advice: even if you aren't a science fiction fan, this movie is a must to go see.

Summary: Good film for those too lazy to read the book!!!
Review: Okay, so what gives? The movie ends without the biggest catch of the novel...oh, well...Hollywood is notorious for destroying art in the name of art. Contact, originally written by Carl Sagan, will make you wonder about beliefs, carbon based life and the nature of political power over common sense and observational science. If you only watch one other movie your entire life - I hope, for your sake, that it's Contact and that you actually think about its content. thanks.

Summary: SUPPLEMENTAL MATERIALS OUT THE YING-YANG!!!
Review: As a movie, CONTACT is spectacular!!! The most thought-provoking film I've ever seen. A Must See.

As a DVD, it's even BETTER!

There are more interesting supplements on this disc than you can shake a stick at. If you have a dolby digital/AC-3 sound system, try this trick: Watch the opening sequence 5 times. (The zoom out from Earth shot) Each time you watch it, stand next to a different speaker. Each audio channel has its own unique set of songs playing at the very beginning. You can even hear the "Seinfeld" theme in one speaker. It's little stuff like that that makes me love DVD and dolby digital!

Summary: Contact - BEST Movie Ever
Review: This movie is the most intelligent I have ever seen, and I have seen A LOT of movies. The movie is so appealing at so many different levels and really isn't a science fiction movie in the same sense as most people think of it. This movie, "more than anything else", has helped explain a lot of things in my life
