Summary: A bad movie is a bad movie no matter the budget.
Review: A bad idea is a bad idea no matter the budget.

This film is so overrated. The acting is terrible, the script is terrible. It's all terrible. Be warned that in most cases an 'Independent movie with a difference' usually means, a terrible movie.

So many bad attempts at being funny, ridiculous accents, you've got to hear Jon Jacobs Scottish accent, it's a total joke. Christine Fulton, (with her little plastic monkey face) treats us to a 'Chinese' accent, think Charley Chan, and Mickey Rooney in Breakfast at Tiffanies.

Remember the term 'Indie' is now simply a way to market bad movies. The reason people make 'Indie' movies in most cases, is because their ideas are so lame and self obsessed that not a soul on earth will contribute a penny towards the production of these exercises in narcissism.

As for the magic, spells and booze. The witches coven look like rejects form a gender biased book club, with the type of 'good' looks associated with such individuals. Looking wild in quid ($ in the US) shop wigs.

The extras are pointless, the 'E' special follows Jacob his new haircut and the book group to Cannes, where they resort to body paint, rags, and a glimpse of breast ( the breasts dutifully obscured by our moral betters at E tv) to attract attention, now that's original. No one ever went to a film festival and got naked for the paparazzi before, well except for Baywatch flotsam, and every other dizzy starlet with the boob job which is their only job.

I wish I could give this tripe less, than one star I wish I could give, this overrated home movie, an upside down smiley face. The kind of face a smiley face would have if, the smiley face had bought and watched this movie like me. Amazon I demand a upside down smiley face as a rating from this day on. On star has not satisfied me.

Summary: i'm shocked people actually liked this film
Review: i'm stunned. this was one of the worst films i've ever seen. the plot: a brainless witch (lucinda) needs to come up with a spell to snag a guy that all the other witches want to snag so they can have his kid. but she already got with him and had his kid years before so i'm a bit lost as to why any of this film even took place...

perhaps so we get to see lucinda (who is also a hooker) bring clients up to her trashy apartment...

or maybe to see the main guy go through a whorehouse whacking each girl on the backside while *checking* to see if it's lucinda (because, apparently, he can't remember what she looks like but something on her bum might refresh his memory)...

or, the high point of the whole film, when a witch (beatrice was it?) decides to conjure up a satyr and... um... pleasure him for an audience of witches. his lines were (intentionally or not) the most hilarious part. but that's in the last five minutes of the film.

the characters are lifeless, the plot is thin and the movie itself is a chore to watch. mystery science theater 3000 shows better films.

Summary: A must-see indie hit
Review: Jon Jacob's latest film is set in the seductive and dangerous city of New Orleans...and rightly so. Where else could a writer/director (and yes - actor) capture the spirit of a coven of witches, the man they all attempt to seduce and all of the baddies that endeavor to thwart all of Lucinda's attempts to reunite with her only son?

The story is multi-faceted and takes place a few days prior to, and through, the Eve of Beltrane. It follows Lucinda (Christina Fulton), a New Orleans prostitute who ingeniously caters to her clients with a bevy of outrageous outfits, as she repeatedly tries in vain to reconnect with the son that she gave up for adoption many years ago. However, there are many people, for reasons apparent later, that will do anything to keep Lucinda from getting her son back. The story also follows Jason (Jon Jacobs), a.k.a. The First Horn, the decadent, mystical direct descendant of Merlin the Great Druid, who also happens to be the carrier of the magical bloodline of his ancestor. Jason is in town for "the contest." On the Eve of Beltrane is held a witches contest whereby witches from an area coven vie to see who can create the most powerful spell over Jason, and thus win the opportunity to join him in creating the offspring that will then be the carrier of the magical bloodline. One witch in particular, Beatrice (Shannah Bettz) wants this opportunity so badly that she'll do anything to have Jason. However, Lucinda also sees this as an opportunity to get her son back since Jason fathered her son Severain (Ajax Davis) several years prior in a moment of unbridled lust at the Mardi Gras.

The film, although it sounds quite dramatic, also has several quite humourous moments that are usually provided by the sexy and funny Christina Fulton. If Fulton's wide-ranging talents aren't recognized with this film, it leaves one to wonder what type of role could bring out more diversity in an actress. Regardless of the fact that she slips in and out of her New Orleans dialect, Christina has the quintessence, talent and gushing sex appeal to become a true luminary.

The entire cast, some of which were literally culled from the streets of New Orleans, under the direction of Jon Jacobs, brings a sense of reality and feeling to a very involved picture. Not a detail - okay maybe one or two - escapes Jon's keen directorial eye. It is truly hard to tell that Jon had little budget to work with as this film is shot with painstaking appreciation for detail from the characters to the sets. Even Jon's guerilla-filmmaking sequences come off with the proper feel. This is one indy film that you should definitely see because...sexismagic.

Summary: Witches, Pagan Magic and Booze
Review: Just when I thought I had seen everything.... I sat down to watch this wee beauty. Shot in fabulous widescreen, it's colorful, witty and unpredictable. Christina Fulton is a Riot and Jon Jacobs has gotta be the ballsiest guy in Hollywood to direct and star in this satire on sex. Do I recommend it? It's my new favorite movie. .... Oh and I found the official website at www.sexismagic.com .. more interesting stuff there.

Summary: I fell under Lucinda's Spell, you will too
Review: Lucinda's Spell is a charming little independent movie from bizzare director Jon Jacobs (who wrote/directed/starred in this and the previous "Girl with the Hungry Eyes"). Set in decadent New Orleans, on the eve of Beltain (pagans' "sacred night of love"), Jason the First Horn has come to couple with the most powerful witch. He encounters a coven of witches who would do anything at the chance to have sex with him. A group of women fighting over one guy? Sounds like every man's fantasy. But director Jacobs has turned the fantasy into a nightmare! In the middle of all this is Luicnda Bale (Christina Fulton, also from "Girl with the Hungry Eyes"), white witch and working girl who must overcome her self esteem in order to win and get back the son she thought she lost.

All in all, this was a pretty good film. I gave it only four stars because there was no director commentary. DVDs need commentary and it would have been nice to hear how Jon Jacobs put together this independent movie. See this movie!

Summary: one interesting brew..
Review: some films have the ability to shock you, make you laugh, and leave you shaking your head in disbelief. lucinda's spell has the rare power to do all of the above while it's spell is being cast before your eyes. christina fulton gives a hilarious performance which will leave you laughing long after the film is over and you'll literally be on your knees begging for more. witchcraft just hasn't been this amusing nor entertaining since jack nicholson had us howling in his film the witches of eastwick. while lucinda may not be the film you'd want to play in front of granny and you might need to lock the kids up, i'm sure you will have a good time with this charming if a bit naughty fairytale. probability suggests this film will never receive a tremendous amount of praise from critics or moviegoers but i believe this is a good example of what great independent film making should be. i had read somewhere that mr.jacobs shot this on a small budget but i would've have known this just by watching. i can only hope that mr.jacobs will make more films for us in the near future and maybe this review will reel in a few more new fans. lucinda's spell is pure magic in almost every sense of the word.

Review: This is a fabulous piece of filmmaking. Anyone who didn't enjoy it is off their rocker. It's a fun and simple story of a long lost wizard who travels to New Orleans to find his bride.

Christina Fulton and Jon Jacobs and co-star Leon Herbert are great in this movie. Very watchable, very fun, very good film. 'Nuff said. And check out Jon Jacobs' new comedy movie called HEY DJ. Look for it at http://www.heydjmovie.com and see the great official movie site for HEY DJ! It's even better than Lucinda's Spell!
