Summary: AS COLD AS A WELL DIGGERS FOOT
Review: In truth, THE BRAIN FROM PLANET AROUS, actually comes across more like a failed sci-fi/sitcom pilot than a movie - it has all the elements for a series on television - a sitcom like musical score (it's just plain bouncy), television friendly personalites, a wacky hook, a dog, commerical friendly plot breaks and a standard television fade out at the end - and it all works - as long as you keep one eye closed. Novel in concept and rich in ideas, the film reads so easy, so much so that it feels almost like a missing STAR TREK episode - very entertaining, yet so very odd. There are so many unanswered questions and gaps in logic here that you can't help but look for answers, and since you only have 71 mins to do it in, you have to be quick. How can a man who can destroy whole cities with a thought enjoy hamburgers so much? Questions, questions... THE BRAIN FROM PLANET AROUS is pure entertainment and missed oppurtunites at the same time - worthy for a remake, and also a must for any collector of the style and period - plus a solid buy for the casual viewer.

Summary: classic sci-fi cheese
Review: It's a classic, simple story: bad alien brain takes over man's body while good alien brain takes over his dog's. I wish that I could say that this film is just mindless fun, but given the plot it just doesn't seem appropriate.

Summary: FUN NO HOLDS BARRED SCIFI MOVIE
Review: ONCE AGAIN IN THIS SCIFI THRILLER MAN IS GIVING THE ULTIMATE POWER TO DESTROY THE EARTH. A GOOD IMAGINATIVE STORY WITH TENSE MOMENTS. SPECIAL EFFECTS GOOD, CONSIDERING THIS MOVIE WAS PRODUCED IN 1958. JOHN AGAR PUT ON A GOOD PERFOMANCE AS THE MAN POSSESSED BY AN EVIL INTELLIGENCE. TRULY A NO HOLDS BARRED MOVIE. FUN MOVIE TO WATCH.

Summary: fascinatingly horrible schlock scifi
Review: Ouch! As a fan of B-movies, I've seen quite a few groaners, but this one is uniquely bad in some ways, peculiarly good in others -- and so, definitely worth a look.

The premise is that two alien brains have come to Earth and they are able to invade life forms. One brain is a criminal and he takes over a scientist in order to amass power on our planet; the other is an alien law enforcement officer, and he takes over a dog, the scientist's German Shepherd! So far, high marks for creativity. Oddly, the criminal brain is quite lusty, and makes many overt remarks and passes at the scientist's wife. This is unusual for B-movies, but quite typical of the pulp literature of the time.

The special effects, as you'd expect, are abyssmal, but fun in a laughable way, and the science is horrendous. Still, the film is a jaw dropper and thus a must-see for fans of the genre.

No dvd extras except the movie's trailer.

Summary: Brain Tumor...
Review: Steve March (John Agar) is a nuclear physicist who is entered and possessed by an alien entity. The alien is a giant, floating brain with glowing peepers. It's name is Gor and it has come to conquer the earth. Enter Vol, the "good guy" alien, another floating brain sent to stop Gor's evil plot. Vol enters Steve's dog so he can keep an eye on him. Meanwhile, Gor is causing mid-air explosions on jets and gathering all the nations' heads of state (which apparently amounts to about six countries) to explain his plan for world domination. Can Vol stop him before the flea and tick season? Let us watch and pray for humanity...

Summary: As good as brain movies get!
Review: The Brain from Planet Arous is one of the three "classic brain movies" claiming honored spots in my core, desert island, protect-against-nuclear-holocaust DVD collection. That doesn't mean it's particularly good in the mundane sense, but come on...a flying brain with eyes is going to take over the planet by inhabiting John Agar's body, and the only "person" who can stop it is the interstellar brain inhabiting Agar's German shepherd.

Now, how can you not love a film like that? And it's directed by the estimable Nathan (The 7th Voyage of Sinbad) Juran. Go for it!

Summary: Classic 50's Sci-Fi Cheese
Review: This is a classic sci-fi movie, with great sound and visual effects. The plot is both entertaining and amusing. A good sci-fi story, and a great laugh. A must see!

Summary: ultimate b-movie ambiance
Review: This is perhaps the single most enjoyable b-movie I have ever seen, including even "Plan Nine From Outer space" (which I know is high praise). John Agar delivers a good trooper performance in a storyline that is bizarre to say the least, and the infamous "balloon brain" scene near the end only makes the film more appealing to those interested in low-budget special FX. The high-temperature desert scenes, including both the exaggerated armpit-sweat stains and the hamburger-and-onion barbecue dialogue, demand that this film be watched in the middle of summer, preferably during a party with both burgers and cocktails served.

Summary: Bad movie is hilariously good!
Review: This is possibly the worst movie ever made and is a must own for everybody.

Summary: So bad it's funny
Review: This movie certainly isn't up (or maybe I mean down) to the standards of the schizoid and nearly incomprehensible "Plan Nine from Outer Space," but as bad-but-funny films go, this is a doozy. The title itself cracked me up: it's pronounced, "The Brain from Planet Eros." If that's not a double entendre, I don't know what it. John Agar, probably best-known as the ex-husband of Shirley Temple, gives as credible performance. The brain Gor, as noticed below, would make a good model. (Actually I made one once; got a plastic brain and put fake eyeballs on the front. Kids were fascinated by it.) Sometimes I wonder if this movie didn't influence the stylish and witty '80's film "The Hidden." In "Arous" the alien hides in a dog; the same thing happens in "The Hidden." I wonder how the actors were able to keep straight faces.
