Review: Where do I even start? E.T. is probably the best movie to have ever been created. The night I saw E.T., my perspective on life was changed forever. Before the 'T' Man (That's what I like to call my bud E.T.) I used to collect barbie dolls and watch moths mate in my windowsills. (Of course that isn't a very good way for a 47 year old man like myself to pick up women. Nights would pass, I would ponder the meaning of life as I lined up my barbies for a tea party. I was always devastated when Ken showed up, I got so jealous. He always stole Barbie from me. One night I set his corvette on fire to get even.
Anyway, back to 'T'. He has inspired me so. During the lowest times in my life when I about hit rock bottom, T lifted me up.
T overcame his struggles as a young street tough from the projects. He used to sell lemonade by the spoonful to the chimney sweepers. If that is not enough to inspire you, there must be something wrong. Buy ET.

Summary: From start to Finish
Review: Well i must say that Steven and everyone who worked on this master of a picture were all kids in there past with great dreams after going to bed.
From the start of this family entertainment you are reaching out for the snacks, and falling off the chair while the eyes are glued to the TV.
I first seen the movie like most in a cinema, and i must be honest to say at the time it was not my choice.
How wrong i was to think that this movie was not full of the usual violance and sex that i would not enjoy on my search for an adult film.
This movie brings the kid in all of us out with a wonderful story that we can all relate to in our childhood through dreams.
I am now going to purchase the DVD for my six year old, and also my Son who is one years old.
I really hope they keep on asking there Dad to play this non stop.
I am a big guy, but i want the return of ET to be made as soon as Steven decides it is time for him to come home to the cinema for all future big kids like me.
A lot more of this story can be told, and i will dream this with my kids tonight.

Review: I think I have found that most of the emotional weight of the film is carried by the music, as someone posted up above, but what would most movies be without the music. "Emotional weight" can refer to any sorts of emotions.I can not see myself paying more for two versions of this movie, when the only one I care to see is the original 1982 release. The only appeal of the Anniversary Edition was seeing the film on a theater screen again. As soon as the title came on screen I was transported to 1982 in all of my 5 senses (or 1985 for the re-release). I will not repeat all of the dissatisfactions with the changes that have already been stated. Why not just package this like "Legend" with it's international and American releases on two discs and charge regular price? I always find criticism of the STAR WARS references throughout the movie (as well as in Spielberg-produced "Poltergeist"). They are not there out of envy of George Lucas' success or as a compliment to Lucas or any of those reasons. Anyone who grew up during that time knows that all kids had some amount of STAR WARS toys or paraphenalia (before it became memorabilia) because STAR WARS was a part of contemporary pop culture and not reviled as it is now. In showing a perfect dead-on example of early 80s childhood suburban life (minus the alien encounter), "E.T." has become more nostalgic.

Summary: ... ruined a classic
Review: First, I want to make it clear that I'm reviewing the DVD here, not the original film. I liked the original; it's a good movie. Not as fantastic as it is hyped to be, but good enough to have on DVD for an occasional viewing. I give the film 4 stars. I have BIG problems with what's behind this DVD, and the "special edition" of ET that's on it. The 2002 edition of ET is just absurd. As others pointed out, CGI ET looks silly, and isn't consistent with the "old" scenes that include ET. His stiffness was part of his physical character. Making him more "jar-jar" just doesn't make sense. It's an example of "lets do it because we can". There are lots of thing we "can" do that we "should not" do, and this is one of them. But much worse than this is the digital removal of the guns. Not only was this poorly done (from a technical point of view), but it's an example of Political Correctness(tm) gone mad. Guess what: government agents and cops carry guns, and they point them at people/things that they are trying to stop/apprehend. Get over it. I hate to see a work of art like ET defaced just to appease a loud, misguided minority of people who believe in political correctness. Bowing to this minority was a cowardly act. Finally, the packaging Universal has chosen is obnoxious. The only way to get the original film is to buy a very expensive "gift boxed set", filled with things I do NOT want. I'm willing to pay for a boxed set, but only if it contains the following items: Original movie with original 5.1 sound track, commentary track(s), deleted scenes, making of and/or retrospective featurettes. That's it. This would probably fit on one disc, making a boxed set unnecessary. ...

Summary: More, and even better, of the Story That Touched The World!
Review: I don't care what any of you think. E.T. is the best movie ever made. It's my persona; fave, too. I agree with some that if it didn't have the music in it, it wouldn't be as good. I have seen this movie near or over 50 times. I am 14 now and I have watched it more than any kid probably ever has in his/her life. I am not gonna say I have watched it more than anyone else in the world. I am just saying that I love this movie! It gets better each time. Here are a few things I noticed in the 20th anniversary:
When he is chasing his ship, there are brand-new scenery shots (magnificently beautiful, I might add).
E.T. gets a bath.
A few of the swear words...were dimmed out when pronounced.
In the original movie Elliott's costume was pulled down straight in the "flying scene" but in this version (and on the old video boxes) his cape is fluttering out behind him.
A small Halloween addition where Elliot and his sibling's mom is looking for them, and Gertie blurts out some funny dialogue.
And the #1 hated scene, the digitally added walkie-talkies.
Most noticable out of everything is the picture. The colors are beautiful and the sound (I love Dolby Digital and Dolby Digital Surround EX) [I would love to hear DTS but I have no DTS decoder :(
I have loved this movie since my aunt bought this movie for me years before she died. This was the best thing she ever gave to me. Since then, it is untraceable. I have rented this movie out about 5 times at Video Vault (now Movie Gallery) and a lot more at the public library. I finally got my friend to beg his mom to let me borrow this film. I could watch any version I wanted. I like the 20th Anniversary better because of the remastered sound and the restored footage/picture.
I leave you, the audience, with one question: does anyone know where I can find a good DTS decoder but I don't have to spend an arm-and-a-leg on it? I hate the sound on my computer (cuz I have just 2 computer speakers) and I have a stereo that releases good sound. I just need a good DTS decoder. If you can help me, please help me!

Review: ET returns to the big screen with Hanse Visual Effects, (HVE,) Never Before Seen Footage, (NBSF,) and a Digitally Remastered Soundtrack. (DRSt.) A good film you should buy on DVD. ET The Extra Terrestrial is 20 years old now. I thought the preivews we were going to see were Scooby-Doo, Spy Kids 2, Hey Arnold! the movie, Spider Man and Spirit: Stallion of the Cimmaron

Summary: The story that moved the world...
Review: E.T. is unquestionably among the top films ever made. It's hard to describe its unique appeal - it does not stem from any one aspect of the film in particular, but more from the overall spell of innocence, wonder, and magic the movie weaves. Perhaps E.T. is best described as a modern fairy tale of sorts. But regardless of what one calls it, E.T. is a movie everyone should see at least once - in an era of slickly made commercial films, it is a rare thing - for it is a blockbuster that actually deserves its ongoing popularity because of the real sentiment that runs through it. As most people know, E.T. is the story of the encounter between a lost alien and a young boy, who is also lost in a world where, he has discovered, adults no longer believe in anything. Spielberg uses the story, which is very compelling, to create some of the most memorable moments on film - ranging from the humorous to the genuinely touching. For instance, scenes such as the bicycle ride or E.T.'s departure. Anyhow, this is a wonderful film - for those of you who haven't seen it (probably not many) you really should! It's a great, heartwarming story that did indeed move the world, and it is perfect for children. See this and enjoy a magical classic!

Review: How can people write bad reviews before the product is even released? I have no idea. Or even before reading the product especifications!!
This wonderful collection (according to what I have read) will have both the 2002 and the 1982 versions of E.T., which I think is wonderful.
As a musician, though, I had the privilige to see the premiere of the 2002 version in L.A., with maestro Williams conducting a 100-piece orchestra and synchronizing the whole soundtrack to the complete movie! Now, I think this is the first time this was done with a whole movie. It was personal the most gratifying musical experience I've ever had, even though I wasn't the one conudctin! :)
In any case, I hear that this new DVD collection will have the choice of seeing the movie with the original 1982 soundtrack or with the life Williams performance from March 16th 2002. I think that only fact will make this collectiona 5-star one...

Summary: Did not need to be touched up!!...
Review: As a "Star Wars" fan, I have to admit, George Lucas' 1977 grand epic movie DID NEED to be fixed, Lucas totally buffed up its Special effects, which it needed, SW Special Edition is phenominal compared to its original version, however I don't feel the same way about E.T., I mean what really needed to be fixed????, SW was Sci-Fi, so naturally it needed it, E.T. had very little effects in the way of visuals, I don't know what Speilberg is thinking, I mean, is he trying to compete with Lucas in a friendly way??, You can bet I will be watching the 1982 version, this film really is a timeless classic about an alien left behind on earth who soon befriends Elliott, a 10 year old who lives in what appears to be the valley of Los Angeles, Elliot & E.T. share a special bond, it is every lonely kid's dream, I was 11 when I first saw it, it hit home, because at the time I was new in my neighborhood, & my mom had just gone through a divorce too, I was an only child too, so you can imagine, E.T. always heightened my spirits, this film is great in that it shows what a fun character E.T. could be, the original puppet used was by all accounts well done, why they felt the need to digitally enhance E.T. is beyond me, we have never seen Jar Jar Binks as a puppet, so we don't think much about it, but E.T. you do, had digital technology been possible in 1982, then maybe it wouldn't matter, but now it does, another flaw is the removed guns from the government agents, (another mistake), why be politically correct??, I mean lets face it, agents hell bent on capturing an alien would not be so kid-friendly, in all reality they would be pursuing with guns, not walkie-talikes!..., Speilberg should have left this treasure alone, I can understand Lucas' argument on SW, but this one had little in the way of visual effects, I say stick with the original version & skip the 2002 version, the original may cost more, but it is worth it.
