Summary: "THE BOWIE FAN THAT FELL INTO HER POPCORN"
Review: Don't get me wrong, I love Bowie's sweet face as much as the next guy but, what was he thinkin'? I was really dissapointed. Not with the preformace, but with the story line. I started to see what was going on but, then the credits started to roll by. I think I had more fun looking at the box. I give one star for the effort and one star for the box.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: this is definitely a 70's cult classic!
Review: I have always been a fan of David Bowie's music especially his "Ziggy Stardust" phase. After seeing this movie I was quite surprised at how well an actor Bowie was. I found the movie to be entertaining and brought your mind to a new place.I really think it was ahead of it's time.

Summary: Disturbing, riveting
Review: Bowie in all his most glorious forms. This movie gives a sharp insight into all the emotions society has towards outsiders, people who are different--obsession, awe, mistrust, fear, hate. The tragedy of a would-be hero's fall, brought down by all the most familiar vices, especially that of trusting too much. If you don't let yourself be drawn in, this movie can be hard to follow...but once you do, it's hard to let go.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: If you do not want to think, do not watch this film.
Review: I saw this film when it premiered. I have seen if several times since in video format. There is nothing to compare it to in the current library. It is strange, but at the same time familiar. Bowie exhibits qualities that he posessed as a younger man, and has since lost. He creates mystery and an alien nature which were all "Bowie" at the time. His character shows weakness and strength, but in the end, it is his own weaknesses that are the story.

Summary: Unusual...but really good.
Review: This is the most confusing movie I've ever seen in my life, but I loved it. A classic!

Summary: How to explain this movie...
Review: This is one of those films that is best watched in the dark, by yourself, because sometimes, you just might want to shout out "WHAT?"

Basically this movie is a great cult classic about an alien who comes to our planet in search of water for his desert planet. David Bowie... how do you rate his performance with that of other conventional actors? You can't. He is brilliant in his role as Mr. Newton! I was completely mesmerized and even attracted to him as the thin redhead. I was surprised however that he was completely unclothed in one scene, but hey, it didn't hurt any part of the movie!

I would recomend this to anyone, period. I give the movie a 5, but Bowie's performance gets a 10!

Summary: Cracked Actor
Review: David Bowie at the height of his popularity and some may argue beyond the peak of his creativity, musically had begun to turn his attention to other projects.
In order to understand the metaphor represented here , one must understand Bowie's state of well being. Burned out after Ziggy , Introspective and retrospective become inter-twined. The resultant psychosis is manifest here in The Man Who Fell To Earth.
Imagine a rock star having both opportunity and the means to explore his own projects and so highly thought of that no-one dare say no to you , but all you really craved through your exploration was to be understood.
People's misgivings and misunderstandings about this movie are a reflection of the criticism that Bowie in his drug fuelled career had endured to this point. Its surely no suprise then that this movie confuses, suprises , amazes and revulses us. I think the director and Bowie convey this perfectly. The compulsive obsessive behaviour , the need to repeat a formula of success and the reliance upon a substance that will keep him sane and give him perspective. All conveyed admirably here.
Bowie is not the worlds best actor , this is maybe not the best picture ever made , but what we see are a glimpse into the mind of a Musical Genius exploring a side of him that could not be conveyed within the medium of audio alone.
This movie is of its time and those that are aware know what DB writes of "Time" , unfortunately I cannot convey those lyrics here , but would suggest you consult Mr Bowies excellent CD back catalogue if you need a reference to them.
The only other criticism that I can make is that it could have been done with a little less self indugence. The pace may not be to everyones taste either , but is certainly no different to that of Lucas' THX-1138 in that regard.

Summary: A voyage to the human soul !
Review: A moody and cerebral science fiction tale , that works as original device to explore the most intimate places of the human soul from the allienian point of view.
This may be the masterpiece of Nicholas Roeg and one the two most terrific performances given for David Bowie (the other one would be Merry Christmas Mister Lawrence best known as Furyo).
Do not miss this one .
A timeless cult movie .

Summary: Odd film!
Review: This film has been given a lot of praise over the years. I don't get it. It's very surreal if you like that kind of thing. Candy Clark is naked a few times, but the film itself is rather boring.

The camerawork was interesting in this film and that is about all the praise I can give it other than Candy Clark.

Summary: A Brilliant, Understandable Film For Intelligent People
Review: Too often, I have heard people put down this film because it is "confusing, without plot, and pointless". All I can say is that I saw this movie before I ever read the book, and I wasn't confused in the slightest.

The film, about an alien who comes to Earth to get water for his drought-stricken planet, ends up never going home because he slips into alcoholism, falls in love, and ends up making too much money for his own good.

Think about it - why WOULDN'T this film be confusing? Imagine how YOU would feel if you literally "fell to earth," were surrounded by things you'd never experienced, but had only seen on television before. I believe the director was aiming to portray Thomas Jerome Newton's confusion to his audience. Watching the film, one can't help but feel just as misplaced, uncomfortable, and lonely as the alien.

This is a completely beautiful, depressing journey from one "man"'s journey into becoming "human," so to speak. He slips into human habits, which ends up being his downfall.

For its time, this film's special effects and lighting effects were wonderful, and it still stands as one of my favorite films ever made.

If this film confused you, I highly suggest you read the book, then watch the film again - hopefully that will help. If not, or if you still don't like the film, all I can say is that you probably don't possess the mentality necessary to grasp the complexities and beauty of this film.
