Review: This movie has no climax and a lead actor (Jason Schwartzman) whose quirkiness is a little comical at first but soon gets annoying. Bill Murray has an encouraging start as a businessman who tells prep-school students to find the rich kids and "take them down," but generally looks like he's sleepwalking. For a while it appears that Schwartzman is going to make things interesting in his jealous rage against Murray, but his revenge tactics are no more inventive than the ones attempted in the Norm McDonald flop "Dirty Work." Then everyone gets kind of depressed, then there's that ho-hum ending, then the credits roll. Naturally, the critics went gaga over it, as if it was the greatest thing since sliced bread. Here in the real world, I haven't seen as many people tromp out of the theater before the movie ended since Madonna's 1993 fiasco "Body of Evidence."Only decent line: Surgeon: "These are my OR scrubs." Schwartzman: "Oh, are they?"

Summary: The unsung comedy of the year!
Review: Brilliant filmmaking, If I were to make a film this is what it would look like. It is not a movie that tells you where to laugh. It has lots of little bits and pieces thrown in that offset the reality enough to make it hilarious. I went to see this movie nine times, but not nearly enough to quench my need to see it more. Jason Schwartzman did an excelent job in this movie as his motion picture debut. If you like this movie I also would suggest The Hudsucker Proxy with Tim Robbins and Paul Newman

Review: I have seen this movie four times... and it is not enough. Max Fischer is the Ferris Beuller of the 1990s: quirky, sensitive, brilliant, and manipulative. Bill Murray should have won an Oscar for his performance as Mr. Blume. Great soundtrack as well. GO SEE THIS MOVIE!

Review: This was one of the most surprising movies I've ever seen. I can't describe the feeling I had after watching this in the movie theatre- very few movies have the power to do such a thing. The characters are beautifully developed, the music is amazingly apropos, and the script is hillarious. Still, i'm not sure if this is a comedy ... it's a genre of itself.

Review: I saw Rushmore at my college theatre and enjoyed it immensely. The situations and settings caused me to think back to my younger years of reading Catcher in the Rye which still to date is my favorite book...give this movie a chance!

Review: I cannot begin to describe how much I loved this movie--- It is very funny, very moving, with the strangest, most uniquely beautiful sensibility. I saw it three weeks ago and I am still laughing at some of the jokes ("Dad, I am a barber's son.") and I still find myself moved by the grief and redemption in the story. This film is art-- not for everyone- but definately for me...

Review: The Criterion edition of "Rushmore" is a phenomenal package that fans of the movie should not be without. But first, the movie itself is a real treat. Max Fischer (Jason Schwartzman), 10th grade student of Rushmore academy, is involved in playwriting and numerous extra-cirricular activities. The only problem is he faces expulsion due to his lack luster grades. Towards the beginning of the film he comes to admire Mr. Blume, a self made millionaire in a bad marriage played wonderfully by Bill Murray. The two of them become good friends, each displaying a mutual respect for one another, until they both fall for the same woman, a widowed first grade teacher played by Olivia Williams. If anything, this movie shows the hardships of growing up as a teenager and coming to terms with feelings so overwhelming (in this case unrequited love) that you can't deal with them. Funny, poignant, and intelligent, it's an excellent coming of age story highlighted by the incredible performances of all the players. The Criterion DVD is packed with a trailer, a Charlie Rose show segment with both Bill Murray and director/co-writer Wes Anderson, an audio commentary with Wes Anderson, co-writer Owen Wilson, and Jason Schwartzman, "Making of..." documentary, audition footage, and more. Excellent movie, excellent special features. Need I say more?
