Summary: Don't believe the hype!!
Review: I'd rented this movie because I heard a lot of good buzz about it. Why do the critics and some of the reviewers on this page like this movie is beyond my understanding. I hated that Max character and the movie took too long to tell me what would become of him. The only thing that I liked about this movie was Murray's Mr. Blume and his two evil twin sons.

Summary: Most original movie seen in a very long time
Review: I thought this was the most original movie I had seen in a very long time. Being a huge Bill Murray fan didn't hurt either. Mr. Murray's expressions are priceless. You will like this movie more each time you see it.

Summary: Bill Murray is brilliant, I didn't want the film to end!
Review: A brilliant insight into these character's lives and an overall beautiful film. To watch this film is to understand how the other half of the kids in your school lived. Bill Murray brings his character to another level. If you do not atleast see this movie, it will be a great loss.

Summary: This has got to be the best comedy of 1999.
Review: Wow. I cannot believe how incredible this movie is. Jason Schwartzman gives such a great debut as Max Fischer, an kid who's too bright to follow the rules. An activity jock at the exclusive prep school Rushmore, he's the head of, say, 40-some clubs. So many clubs, in fact, that his grades are horrible, and he's on "sudden-death probation," according to the dean, Dean Guggenheim. one day, however, Max meets Herman Blume, a depressed, and ironic steel tycoon. He hates and likes Max for the same reason: he reminds him of himself. So, he recruits Max as his own, and unfortunately, they both fall for the same girl, Rushmore's first grade teacher, Miss Cross (Olivia Williams). Mayhem ensues, especially when Max meets her boyfriend (Luke Wilson) at his dinner party for his play, Serpico. Then comes a hilarious scene, along the other precious gems Rushmore has to offer. Man, there's so much good in this movie - where do I start? Bill Murray should've picked up a Best Supporting Oscar, the witty screenplay is first-class (even when the film slows up a tad, we still are enthralled), and the characters are so overdeveloped, we think we're watching a cartoon. Just do your good friend Sam a favor, and see this movie. It's an A+.

Summary: stinkin adorable
Review: what a charming flick. bill murray should have one an oscar for this one, definetly the best thing he has ever done. i look forward to their next film, who knows if they can top this one. i'd like to see a sequal "max at junior college" pick up the soundtrack, it's worth it.

Summary: best of the best
Review: This movie is pure inspired genius. IT definately goes into my all time favorites list. The feel of the movie is a bit too quirky for most people who are used to pre-digested hollywood sap, but for those who like something different, it is a great refreshment. oh yeah, margarette yang's really cute, too.

Summary: Not Lackluster-Startling Originality
Review: It is difficult to see why there could possibly be such violent dislike for this film. Wes Anderson Re-teams with Owen Wilson to create perhaps the most challenging script to come out of Hollywood in almost ten years. The film is masterfully shot blending the surreal with the ordinary creating a fantastic blend of innocence and cynicicsm all in the same breath. Schwartzman is fantastic in a role whose dead pan manner adult affectations, and child-like innocence blend into a complex figure who is bent towards failure but reaching for the stars. BillMurray comes across in a subtle manner, who some may be disappointed with (if they are expecting Caddyshack). Murray has grown in this part showing evidence that there is life after Ghostbusters. In short he made an excellent character through understatement and an exteme connection to middle age angst, dissappointment, and misery. Olivia Williams who was recently seen in "The Sixth Sense" delivers a very strong performance, not so much as an obeject of affection, but as a person conflicted, troubled, and ultimately drawn to these other miserable characters who suffer from the same confusion and disillusionment that she does. These people are kindred spirits who are drawn togeer and frankly it is so artfully done that we can see the humor init. Humor which we know to well because at some point in your life, you will be a lovelorn teen, a frustrated young professional, or a sick of it all middle aged suburbanite. The movie is about the relationships we want, the ones we desire, and what holds us together when we hit rock bottom. If you dislike this movie then you looking for comedy in prat falls and not the absurdity that is life.

Summary: EXCELLENT!!!!!!!!!! Schwartzman, what a find!!!
Review: This movie is all about subtle hilarity! C'mon, some of the reviews with one star are unfair. If you want comedy that hits you over the cranium dont see this flick. For clever acting, and smart humor this is a great movie. I rank it with Barcelona and other smart comedies. Great movie highly recommend. Will purchase a copy ASAP.

Review: i think that the last couple of reviewers probably thought Armageddon was a great movie. Too bad Rushmore wasn't made for them anyway...one thing to say: "best comps ever man..."

Summary: What the hell is wrong with you people?
Review: Would you rather see Katie Holmes and James Van Derbeek (again)? This is an original, well thought out, and funny comedy that actualy tries to make us laugh, rather than show us the same cliche awkard high school sex/dance/date/whatever scene over and over again. Although I prefer Wes Anderson's first film, the very undertared BOTTLE ROCKET, I liked RUSHMORE very much. It is comforting to see that someone out there is realesing a high school movie without resorting to following left-over cliches from the 1980s. Save the hilarious ELECTION, this may be the best teen/high school comedies to come out of this decade.
