Summary: The best flick of all time. Better than that boat movie.
Review: This movie will leave you rolling. If you haven't already seen it, get out from under that rock, and live a little! The crazy storyline, and superb acting in this movie make it just a smash. I have personally seen it over 10 times. I have been reciting from it for about 3 years now. This movie is worth every penny I have spent on it. Every moment of this movie will keep you on the edge of your seat. You'll be saying "What's Brodie gonna say next?" and "Will Silent Bob ever talk?" or "Will that guy ever see the hidden picture?".

I HIGHLY RECCOMEND THIS MOVIE. IT'S FUN FOR THE WHOLE FAMILY! Over age 14, that is.

"Can I be called the Second Suitor? Suitor Number 2 sounds like a bathroom code." - Brodie (Jason Lee), during Truth or Date.

Summary: solid
Review: This is obviously Kevin's third best movie, which still rates it well above almost all of the big budget crap you see on the video store shelves.

Summary: Every high-schooler from the 70's-90's must see this!
Review: Forget the annal retentive critics! Mallrats is a must see. To remember what emotional rollercoster we were on in High School was awsome. Absolutely intense dialouge! I was quoting lines from this movie for months. I seldom watch movies more that once, but this one is well worth several trips.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: One of the best comedy movies I have ever seen.
Review: I don't know how to explain my thoughts ont his movie. I love it. I love the characters. I have been quoting the lines ever since I saw it. I'll never forget it. I even have dreams about it. You have to see this movie! Snoochie Boochies!

Summary: You haven't seen this film? Forget the reviews....
Review: Many critics were disappointed with Mallrats, seeing it as unworthy successor to Kevin Smith's directing-writing debut Clerks and as an inferior film to his third effort, the excellent Chasing Amy. But Mallrats has an identity of it's own and should not be judged by the standards of Smith's two other VERY different films. In this comedy, the excellent Jason Lee plays Brodie Bruce, who has just been dumped by girlfriend Rene (90210'S Shannen Doherty) and whose best friend, T.S. Quint (Jeremy London) has ALSO been dumoped by HIS paramour, Brandi Svenning (the beautiful Claire Forlani of Meet Joe Black fame). The two dudes try to figure out how they can get their girls back while visiting the local mall, where they meet up with characters like Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Mr. Smith himself), Shannon Hamilton (Ben Affleck), Gwen Turner (Joey Lauren Adams of Chasing Amy), Mr. Svenning (Michael Rooker, of Henry: Potrait of a Serial Killer and JFK), Willam (Ethan Suplee of American History X), 16 year old sex book author Tricia Jones (Renee Humphreys), and many other interesting and hilarious charcters, including comics legend Stan Lee playing himself. This is a hilarious movie, with very funny moments and set pieces, and most of the actors do an excellent job (those who don't know who you are). A great film, highly recommended, and a great drinking movie. Enjoy...

Summary: ANOTHER GREAT FILM BY KEVIN SMITH
Review: Mallrats is a hilarious follow up to Kevin Smith's indie movie Clerks. It intervines some of Clerks characters and themes and even has that loveable duo of Jay and Silent Bob (played by Smith himself). Mallrats starts out with two best friends(Brodie and T.S.) getting dumped by their girlfriends, and they try to cope with their problems by going to "the mall". Brodie is trying to forget about his girlfriend (played by Shannon Doherty) while T.S. is trying to get back his girlfriend, who is going to be on a gameshow televised in the mall. Mallrats is a great follow up to Clerks and I would recommend picking it up as soon as possible.

Summary: Slackers Rule The Mall
Review: Kevin Smith's second film in "the Jersey trilogy", MALLRATS centers around two budddies, who spend too much time, hanging out at the mall. T.S. (Jeremy London) and Brodie (Jason Lee) have recently been dumped by their girlfriends. The friends decide to try and win them back by making a trip to the mall, where Brodie's girl, Rene (Shannen Doherty) and T.S.'s girl, Brandi (Claire Forlani) will be as well. Along the way, the boys meet up with Spiderman creator Stan Lee (playing himself), and this being a Smith film, Jay (Jason Mewes) and Silent Bob (Kevin Smith), make a spirited return after CLERKS. The film has that great View Askew take on life. As usual though, it's Lee, who gets all the best lines. By having a few characters from CLERKS return, the films are (loosely) tied together, and even introduce us to what the future holds for some in CHASING AMY. Don't let that stop you though, the movie works fine as a stand alone. Critics have said the film was not quite as good as Smith's first film--it's just different--that's all.

The Collector's Edition DVD has another winning commentary from Smith et al. There's over 60 minutes of deleted scenes from the cutting room floor. Some of which are really funny, while others are not, a mixed, but worthwhile bag. The extras also include footage fom the commentary recording session, a making of feturette, the clever theatrical trailer, a video from the soundtrack, and a handful of production photographs. This disc is a must for fans of Kevin Smith Recommended.

Summary: The Mallrats DVD
Review: With 150+ reviews of this film, the controversy rages on: Was this film a box-office flop because it was awful, or because Universal & Gramercy screwed up the marketing?

For me, the heart of the matter is that this film was extremely hard to market. As Kevin Smith comments on the DVD, the studio wanted a smart "Porkys" -- a film aimed at youth with frontal nudity and just enough, but not too much, rough language. The demographic for the film was a young audience, but the "R" rating didn't help to fill the theaters.

As with other Kevin Smith productions, this DVD is a work of love. Smith includes many deleted scenes, including the two aborted alternative openings. The running commentary completely fleshes out the production history of the film, and the choices that were made in production. The original opening is shown in the deleted scenes section, and one can see why it fell flat in test screenings -- the plotline with TS as the "rooftop sniper" and the CNN repartee peppered in the rest of the movie was an unfunny dilution of the central story, which added nothing to the central plot development.

Like its predecessor, "Clerks," Mallrats relies on the building of episodic humorous bits, which crescendo into truly brilliant humor, as when Ethan Suplee, completely frustrated that everyone can see the sailboat, but him, verbally explodes at the group of small children, that there is no Easter bunny.

As with Clerks and Chasing Amy, Smith's central theme, as spoken by comic book legend Stan Lee in this film, is that when you find "the one" love of your life, hold on for dear life, or risk eternal regret and disappointment. The verbally-brilliant Jason Lee (Brodie) and straight-man Jeremy London (TS) are the central characters, who conspire through the length of this film, to win back their newly-lost loves, Shannon Daugherty, and Claire Forlani. Some of the humor is flat and sophomoric, but when the great moments of this film arrive, truly great comedy results.

This is a great DVD to study the rescuing of a script, which definitely had problems. Whether Kevin Smith succeeded in that endeavor is the core of the great debate about this film.

Bottom line is that this movie is funny, and a must-see for any Kevin Smith fan. Seeing Joey Lauren Adams prior to her stellar portrayal in Chasing Amy was interesting, and of course, Jay and Silent Bob are a total joy (especially in Silent Bob's attempts to levitate a Marlboro, and Jay's reaction to same). Since Smith's next movie, "Jay & Silent Bob Strike Back," is now in production, this movie, along with the other Smith opuses, will soon be required viewing to fully understand the J&SB saga.
