Description:

Samsung's high-power CHT-420/XAA DVD/VCR combo is perfect for getting the full enjoyment from all your favorite movies and music, featuring VHS recording and playback, premium progressive-scan component-video DVD outputs, built-in MP3 decoding, and compatibility with JPEG image CDs so you can enjoy a slideshow of your digital pictures right on your television. It comes with a multichannel surround speaker system and an integrated surround receiver that decodes DTS and Dolby Digital 5.1-channel surround sound. Dolby Pro Logic II generates immersive, 5.1-channel surround from any two-channel music or movie input.

Whether your living room is currently home to an HDTV or you're merely thinking of "someday," the CHT-420/XAA stands ready to deliver the full potential of your DVDs. Progressive scanning, referred to as 480p for the number of horizontal lines that compose the video image, creates a picture using twice the scan lines of a conventional DVD picture, giving you higher resolution and sharper images while eliminating nearly all motion artifacts.

The VCR delivers hi-fi stereo sound and quasi-S-VHS (SQPB) playback, which lets you view S-VHS cassettes--normally only playable on high-end S-VHS machines--in standard VHS resolution. One-month, eight-event programming ensures you'll never miss an essential broadcast.

The built-in amplifier pumps out 60 watts per channel x 5 for the satellites and center-channel speaker and 100 watts for the passive 8-inch subwoofer, all of which combines to create a full range (20 to 20,000 Hz) system capable of hair-raising sonic realism.

Top-of-the-line component-video outputs (for DVD only) help minimize digital and line-scan artifacts on compatible advanced televisions, while composite- and S-video outputs bring DVD compatibility with nearly any television. The single-jack DVD/VCR output is composite-video only, and there's also an VCR-specific RF output for use with older televisions. A set of left/right analog-audio outputs for both DVD and VCR components channel audio to Dolby Pro Logic receivers and stereo televisions. Both Dolby Digital and DTS 5.1-channel surround-sound DVD signals can be routed through the player's digital-audio output for direct connection to a full-featured audio/video receiver.

If your TV has only a single RF input, you'll need to buy an RF video modulator, which will not only convert composite-video to RF, but provide you with a simple way to switch multiple video output sources to a single TV input. Other features include an FM/AM tuner with 30 station presets, auto clock set, and password-protected parental ratings control for DVD playback.
