Review: ...The speakers give you what you expect. The up side is that it does everything you need. I purchased this for use in a temporary apartment and plan to use it later in a guest bedroom. For that purpose, it does just fine at a reasonable price. I would not recommend using this as your main home theatre system: It just won't cut it. I also considered the Magnavox at the same price. I didn't get to listen to either before purchase, so the coin toss led to the Koss system.

Summary: Great system
Review: This system is great for the non audiophiles. It sounds good and has pleanty of features. My only problem with it is the lack of digital audio inputs to hook other audio systems up to the surround sound.

Review: o no warranty; no address or telephone number in packing materials. Try 800/726-3801.

o 90 day warranty. Unit died after 9 months.

o works only with remote control supplied; no universal remote code so now I have one more clicker to kepp track of
o tiny speakers supplied with unit have a tinny sound; fortunately receiver easily drives my ancient Rectilinears. Also on the plus side sound levels are separately adjustable on each channel. On the down side, a built-in cross-over network means you can't eliminate their sub-par power-consuming biamped subwoofer.
o If you switch from DVD to TV, DVD reverts back to start of disk. A major pain as now you have to sit through a minute plus of start-up material.
o You can't remove DVD's until you switch back to DVD mode, wait a minute for warmup
o Almost impossible to navigate through MP3's.
o lacks a mute button. Oh thos enoisy commercials
o Number keys cannot be used to select DVD chapter.
o Could use extra audio inputs for tape deck and reel-to-reel.
o Lacks digital inputs for PlayStation, etc.

Review: Don't waste your money on this player. I bought this exact one in June 2004 and already have had to replace it. A VERY slow machine (tray opening, reading discs, switching modes etc). It also had a difficult time reading some discs that played fine in my other DVD player. Save yourself the frustration and look for a Sony or Magnavox and invest a little more money. You will get a lot more machine.

Review: This product worked well for a year. Now the dvd drive is dead. I wish I had spent more money on a better quality system. I purchased this product based on reviews on Amazon.com. $220 down the tubes.

Summary: Excellent Audio, But OSD Lacking
Review: This is my first home theater system. I read the reviews and purchased the Koss C220 with a good idea of what to expect. The audio output is excellent...the best my ears have ever listened to. The subwoofer has the capability to vibrate my hardwood floors and windows, but I rarely keep it that loud.

The cons... The on-screen display (OSD) is not very user-friendly. You just see a row of icons on the screen, and it is not obvious what they control. Scroll all the way to the right, and more mysterious icons appear. The same goes for the remote. This unit definitely has a learning curve. I think Koss (or whoever designed the system) used icons so the same unit could be shipped to any country and not have to change the OSD depending on the language spoken there. The elapsed time is displayed on the front of the unit, and cannot be displayed on the screen which is unfortunate. As others have mentioned, the unit is a bit temperamental depending on what you want to do. You must be in the DVD mode to insert or eject a DVD. To configure the audio, you have to be in DVD mode with no DVD in the drive. To set the clock on the display, you have to be tuned into one of the two A/V tuners. I have to dig out the manual every time to figure out which mode to be in and icon to press everytime I need to configure something.

The DVD player seems overly sensitive to any scratches on DVDs, CD-Rs, and CD-RWs. The DVD players on my computers have no problem reading the same CDs and DVDs. The speaker wires are plenty long for my small living room. The DVD unit is relatively heavy and barely slides into the shelf in my entertainment center. After using the C220 for 6 months, the CD tray needs a little help going in and out. Oh well, I mostly watch TV anyway. I purchased a display unit, so I don't have much money invested in it.

Overall, it is a excellent starter home theater system, and now I have a good idea what to look for when I upgrade.

Summary: Bad Buy
Review: I've read all of the reviews, and while I can see both sides of the coin, be aware that sure "it's a nice little budget system" IF YOU ARE PLANNING TO REPLACE IT NEXT YEAR. If you want to spend $220 PER year on a home entertainment system, that's fine. After purchasing the system and being told by customer service after 10 months "send us $200 and we'll send you a new unit" rather than offering any type of repair - I'll shop elsewhere for my system. In this instance, you get what you pay for.

Summary: Excellent Machine
Review: I bought this system last year. I had kept it in the box for about 2 months because I was planning a move and did not want to hook it up. I hooked it up in Nov or Dec of last year and played two DVDs. Had problems with both on audio and had to adjust language to either 2.0 or 5.1 before it would play right. Most recently I joined a DVD club, bought many DVDs and have problems playing any DVD that does not have language choice of 5.1 or 2.0. Called manufacturer and they said too bad, it's out of warranty. What a waste of money. DON'T BUY THIS PRODUCT.

Summary: Pretty Good System
Review: This is a pretty good system for a meduim sized room or apartment. The sub isn't all that loud, but if you get another sub to go with it it sounds very good. I have had this system for about a year and it has satified me a great deal. I recommend people to buy this item because its afforadable, reliable, and has three things in one! (radio, dvd, and cd players) You can't beat a better deal for the quality you get from this item.
