Summary: Disappointed
Review: I started out feeling impressed with the sound, and the picture quality was good. Then, I went on to the special features section of one of my DVDs and wanted to check out a section about the levels of animation it took to make the movie. It said to toggle through the levels by using the angle button on your remote. There wasn't one. You have to bring up an on-screen menu, which covers a large part of your screen, for the angle and zoom as well as other buttons you would find on other DVD remotes.
When I pressed the angle function on the menu, it didn't work so I thought I would check it on my other DVD player and sure enough, it worked on that one.
Then I checked out the zoom, located on the on-screen menu only. The zoom seemed distorted and covered up by the on screen display. Why put in a zoom function to get a better look if you cover it up with an on-screen display? On other units you can use the arrow button to look around the screen on your zoomed view. Not with this one.
I was a little disappointed but then my daughter popped in another DVD and half way throught the movie, a second ghost screen appeared flashing the subtitles through the center of the screen. I had played this DVD several times before on my other unit and this wasn't normal. I just boxed it up and sent it back.
Auxiliary audio for my VCR and alternate DVD player was also a disappointment. The sound concentrated in the front speakers while the rear speakers remained silent even when using the same DVD in the alternate player that performed well in the main system.

Summary: Great starter system at a great price!
Review: Being a former studio engineer, I became so disenchanted listening to the audio through my TV that I finally "broke down" and decided to purchase a home theatre system. After reading the reviews, I decided on the Koss C220.

Initially, I was very impressed with the ease of setup, especially with the "Quick Start" manual (how many guys like to read directions anyway?!?!). Within about 30 minutes I had the system ready to go with the film "Gettysburg" in the tray. And I must say that the sound was superb! However, the picture quality wasn't that great. So after diagnosing the problem with a few friends, it turns out that I needed an RF modulator ... Using this, I was able to use the S-video out which produced a more crisp picture and separated some of the interference I was seeing on my TV.

One more thing: you'll need to tweak the volume settings on the speakers. You can do this through a cool menu system you view on the TV. I found that I had to set the volume to around 10db on the surround speakers, 6 on the left/right, 8 on the center and 6 on the sub. But you will need to configure for your room.

All in all, a great starter system at a great price! Cheers!

Summary: Warning, May be DOA
Review: Unfortunately our unit was DOA on arrival. Seems like some type of short circuit in the audio amplifier. Would play for a few seconds, then could hear a relay clicking and the audio output would shut off. Nothing we tried would correct the problem. Too bad, since could have been a 4 star given the features/price ratio.

Summary: Pretty darn nice...
Review: The sound of this system is superb and it's very easy to setup. However, after using it for several weeks now I've found a few downfalls which are really just annoyances, not problems. 1)The receiver has a tendancy to get relatively warm after a long period of time. 2)I hate the fact that if you switch to the radio, TV or VCR you can't open the DVD tray. 3)The tray takes forever to open... I hate waiting. That's really about it. The radio was an added bonus and the price was right.

Summary: Nice little budget system
Review: For a little money, you get a capable system. The built in receiver and DVD work well together. I purchased this for my bedroom system wich, besides the C220, consits of a Dish Network reciever and a Sony 16:9 17" flat panel monitor.

Positives: Sounds great for movies. The dialog is right in the range of the main speakers and the boomy subwoofer really pops out the special effects. Easy to set up. Koss OEMed the DVD menu/setup system, but it is clear and easy to use. Price.

Negatives: Sounds thin for music. While the speakers are great for dialog, they can't do full range for music. Boomy sub sounds out of control here. Fan. In the bedroom, I often want to play this a low levels. The fan noise can be very distracting. Video quality is not on par with my Sony DVD player, or even my old Toshiba SD-2107, but it works for the bedroom and a small screen. Can't do a shuffel play on regular CDs or MP3 CD-Rs. This would be nice when you have a 100 songs on a CD-R.

I know I listed several "negatives", but the low price makes up for it. One speaker in my main setup costs more than this!

Summary: Love to save money
Review: What a great system. The Koss system only costs half the price of the average home theater system and performs as well. It has to be the best system under [$$$]. It plays DVDs smoothly. You would not have problems with skipping unless the DVD disc is bad. I see nothing wrong with the remote control buttons that other reviews complained about; it's pretty simple.

If you have a medium size room (about 15ft x 15ft) to put this in, it's the perfect system for you. The sound is clear and pretty powerful, enough for some folks. I can easily hear the surround sounds and distinguish which direction it's coming from. Also, the design of the housing is very stylish and will impress a lot of guests.

This is a great system for anyone (especially college students like me) on a budget.

Summary: This system rocks
Review: I recently bought this system because the price was right. I was not sure what to expect. After I set it up I was amazed at the performace. I was a little concerned about the low wattage on the Subwoofer, but not after I set it up. I followed Bose instruction from their website that said to put the sub's port facing into a courner. I did this and had to actually turn down the sub to half because there was actually too much bass!

Summary: Great Bang For The Buck!
Review: I paid [$$$] for this system and am amazed at what I got. The sleek looking system came quickly, and was extremely easy to set up. All of the wires were clearly labeled and, contrary to other reviewers, the sound of the speakers is not tinny. I just watched Lord of the Rings last night, and couldn't tell the difference between the theater and my house. As a matter of fact, I think my house sounded better. Everything (including a tuner) is in one unit and actually freed up a tremendous amount of space in my entertainment center. I would highly recommend this unit!
