Rating: Summary: Great for my room... Review: The only faults I could find in this system are not having Digital-In (which is included in the SC-HT900, the one with tower speakers) and not having video imput switching. Hookup was interesting. There is a black cable, around the size of a heavy duty extension cord, that goes to the reciever from the subwoofer. If you were planning on buying any cables, the only thing that would work with this system is a set of speaker cables. There are Component Video Out, VCR/TV/Aux in, and S-Video out. There is also a RCA Video Out. The reciever also has Antenna connectors. No power cord goes to the reciever, and there are no speaker connectors on it. Power goes into the subwoofer, and speakers connect to the subwoofer as well. Remote is great, but setup requires a TV to do any real setup or the WMA/MP3, etc playing.I love this system, it replaced a stereo system in my room and on moderate volume can be heard all the way across my house (which is very well insulated, and moderate sized)
Rating: Summary: Good system with only 1 (perhaps 2) flaw(s): Review: I bought this system and have been listening to it for about a month or so now. I use it mainly for DVD watching and listening to CDs, both of which, it handles superbly. With the progressive feature enabled when watching a DVD and connected to an HDTV, the picture is fanatastic and the sound in clear and loud (if you like it that way!!). I do have a smallish-living room which helps, so I would only recommend this setup for a small house, condo, or bedroom. The only major flaw is the lack of a digital audio input so watching television, sports, or playing a console video game isn't as enthrallings as it could be. At this price, however, that fault and a lack of DTSII (it only has DTS decoding) can be overlooked.
Rating: Summary: great buy Review: i've had it for two weeks and so far no complaint.sound quality is great.love the 5 cd capacity.these compact speakers sound amazing.easy operation, don't need the manual to get started.and the price was fantastic 299$ no tax and free shipping...hard to beat.i would definitely recommand it.
Rating: Summary: Definitely worth the price Review: I knew before I bought this system that it would be good, because a friend bought a similar system, the HT800 (which only really differs by the tall speakers), but I was surprised at just how good it sounded even though I didn't put the speakers in the precisely directed positions. Not having the digital audio input is a downside, because you can only get good TV audio out of two speakers, even if you have digital cable. If you try to put your tv sound on 4 speakers, the back two sound scratchy, so just leave it on "TV" mode.
Rating: Summary: Beautiful looks and sound. Terrible logic Review: Got this for my mom when I visited her this summer. She really enjoyed it for one short month prior to her passing. As the other reviewers have said, this PanaSony's real easy to set up and it sounds great. The sound quality rivals far more expensive systems. Placing the power electronics in the sub allows for a svelte outline - reminiscent of Bang & Olufsen. Unfortunately they could have used some Danish intervention when it came to making the functions intuitive and the remote clear. An example of the silly programming is that DVDs won't play when the "sequential" setting is set. This setting allows for 5 CDs to be loaded up and played one after the next. A pretty popular feature - but leave it in this mode, then open the player and insert your DVD movie and it won't play! So you have to dig up the remote, find the tiny sequential button and press it to turn the sequential off. So needless to say, my mom never actually used it to watch a movie (other than during my visit). She really loved the sound it gave her CD's though. I have a full system at home - Yamaha electronics coupled with Energy surround speakers - which put me back a couple grand (at cost as I was selling the stuff at the time), and though this little system costs an order of magnitude less, it's sound performance IS nearly as good. Panasonic got together with Leica for the lenses on their new cameras. Sony coupled with Erricson to add panache to their cell phones. The same is my advice to the design overlords for this product. Please get some European help in designing your user interfaces. The electronics are great, but most of us are not near-sighted engineers. You've always made cool, reliable, quality stuff that generally beats the pants of the competition for value (bang for the buck), but please get some help when it comes to making it easy for all to use. PS Can you please make this without the Satellite speakers? Despite the programming issues (I am a geek after all so I can handle it), I'd buy one for myself if I could feel confident replacing the satellites with my Energy models. It would be a perfect B&O on a budget...
Rating: Summary: Great Theatre System Review: This home theatre system is great. I have had no problems whatsoever with it. Installation was a breeze, as well as learning how to use it... Definately 5 stars from me!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Probably the BEST home theater system for the money!!!!!!!! Review: I bought this system about a month ago, and I like it a lot! First the 5 disc changer, it is awesome, especially if you are lazy like me. The sound quality of it is unbelievable, especially with music. That's what i do with it now, listen to music, ALL THE TIME. The feature i like most is all the presets that came with the system, they are GREAT! Another plus is the on screen display when you are listening to your MP3's. It recognizes what songs they are and you can go to different folders easily. Aside from the music listening, I also like to watch DVDs and VCDs on this system, it recognizes all the discs that i put in there. Which is AWESOME!!! Let's go back to the music, i forgot to mention about the bass of the sub. IT IS UNBELIEVABLE!!! It will shake your walls. You know, my purpose of this system was for movies and such, but NOW, all i do is listening to music on this thing. Because the sound quality is just so clear and crisp. I have some very good computer speakers (200 watt powered Altec Lansings). Recently i just sold them and use this for music because it is that much better. For the money, I don't think you can get a better price home entertainment system of this kind of quality. And of course, get it from Amazon, they are awesome as well. FREE SHIPPING and cheap. If you have doubts, just get this system, you won't regret it!
Rating: Summary: I researched Bose, Sony, and this One.....THIS ONE WON Review: SIMPLY THE BEST SYSTEM!!!! I was debating over Bose, Sony, and this one. Given all the features...this one WONW
Rating: Summary: The best I found in this price range... Review: What a great package! I bought this for my bedroom, and I could'nt be happier. The dialog enhancer is great for viewing movies in a dorm, apartment or late night viewing when you dont want to disturb anyone nearby - it works great! Then there's the zoom feature, which lets you (very gradually) format the movie to your TV! So you choose how much bars to leave in your 4:3 screen - also works great! Sound is awesome, very clear! HTIB's arent the loudest but this one is one of the better ones out there. Also it plays the new DVD Audio discs! Which will soon be the main audio format, replacing cd's. Not many players do this yet. Put in a mp3 disc or two and you have enough tunes to last nearly forever...lol. I have 1 complaint: There's no digital audio input (fiber-optic or coax)! So no digital surround sound for your X-Box or DTV/DSS. I have a main bigger system in my livingroom so this wasnt a worry for me. If this is your main system you may want to consider the SC-HT900 ([money maount]more) It has this feature. This does however have 3 stereo (regular) audio inputs: TV, VCR, and Aux. I shopped and compared for weeks and found this to be the best choice HTIB for me. Also Panasonic's reliability has been great in all their products in the past.
Rating: Summary: a.k.a. How to Equip the Urban Condo Review: Frankly, I was always skeptical of all-in-one packages, having grown up in the age of component systems. When pricing out all of the pieces, speakers, and cabling however I just couldn't justify forking over that much and getting nothing more than I could from this single box. Being a combined unit, with smaller surround speakers makes it a perfect fit in a tight urban environment. It has plenty of output power, certainly more than enough to keep all surrounding neighbors awake if I so choose. It does take a bit to get used to all of the functions and features, and I don't like the shape and feel of the remote, but overall this is a remarkable value.
