Summary: When We Played Our Charades....
Review: This movie is simply breathtaking. With Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn in the lead, how could you go wrong?? And to top it off the music is done by the great Henry Mancini.
In Charade, fate draws Audrey and Cary together and sends them through chases, near death experiences, mixed with romance. You never get bored with this, as a matter of fact, alot of people think that it was directed by Alfred Hitchcock, because it has his touches.
Also, I wanted to comment on this particular edition of Charade on DVD. Although it is a cheaper version, it is very high quality. There is a great featurette/biography of Cary Grant that is about 30 minutes long, and a "Charade" trivia quiz. These are more features than you get on some DVD's that you pay $20-$25 for! The picture is very crisp and clear and the sound is not distoreted. It may not be the criterion edition, but it is definitely a good version to have because it really allows this mysterious classic to shine.

Summary: Very good picture. Poor sound.
Review: This film happens to be in my top 10 of my all time favorite films and I was very happy to pick up this copy. However there are differences between the Critereon versions and this version from Madacy. Unless you want to spend [money] for the Critereon version {and I wasn't prepared to do so} this version is good but not great. The film itself really needs no detailed review except to say that is one of the best comedy/thrillers ever made. It was also Cary Grant's last great film {He made only 2 more films after this-"Father Goose" and "Walk Don't Run"}. He is so suave and debonair that he could give James Bond a run for his money. Also Audrey Hepburn, James Coburn, George Kennedy, and Walter Matthau give excellent performances. I was very suprised about the film quality {I expected worse} however the films sound is quite muddled and hard to understand. There are no real bonuses except for the theatrical trailer, and a trivia game that's not really worth mentioning. There is also a second film included bearing the same name that stars James Mason and Pamela Mason. There is no connection to the Cary Grant version. The quality of that film is much worse and you can see it once and never worry about it again. It is in b+w and was made in 1953. To sum it all up if you don't want to spend alot more money this is an ok version for your collection.

Summary: One of Criterion's best
Review: Another fantastic DVD transfer. It's a pity the rights are expiring: grab one if you can find it.
Oh. The movie's pretty good too. ;)
(not much I can add to the great reviews preceding)

Summary: a nifty cat and mouse caper
Review: This is an entertaining thriller/comedy with a great cast. Audrey Hepburn, with incredible beauty and grace, gives another of her sparkling performances, and is perfect for this clever plot that actually keeps us guessing until the very end.
Cary Grant is as smooth as always, Walter Matthau looks super sleazy in a scrappy mustache, Ned Glass is funny as a sneezing crook, and it's rounded out with George Kennedy and James Coburn, who drops lit matches on our lovely Audrey !

It's well written by Peter Stone, with some funny lines...my favorite is: "you fell for it like an egg from a tall chicken".
Henry Mancini's score is delightful, and the Oscar nominated theme song is the kind of melody one is humming long after the film is over...and it's given several interpretations, like the "James Bond" version for the titles.

Director Stanley Donen, who makes a Hitchcockian appearance as one of the two men in the elevator (he's the one on the left), keeps a good pace, and makes this light and stylish film a treat, with Audrey its main treasure.

Summary: Bravo!!! Bravo!!!
Review: Charade is a fantastic movie. Every second of it is highly enjoyable, from the how-much-more-60's-can-you-get title credits to the final shot. For such a Hitchcokian movie, it is surprising that it was directed by Stanley Donen, mostly known for directing musicals. This movie could easily have been directed by Hitchcock. It's got everything you could want from any movie: suspense, romance, comedy, and two wonderful leads in cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn, who completely click even though he's about two zillion years older than her.
The plot is quite ludicrous: Audrey comes back from vacationing to find her Paris home ransacked and her husband dead. On the way to the end, she meets three evil characters who were friends of her husband, a skeptical French policeman, a CIA agent and of course Cary Grant, who may or may not have had something to do with her husband's death. As the movie goes on, the suspense builds and builds until you are leaning on the edge of your seat and hardly breathing. Then it breaks, and the finale is a marvelous one. All in all, this movie is one of my favorites and I highly recommend it to everyone.

Summary: Wonderful!!!
Review: I am a huge fan of Audrey Hepburn. I have all her movies and lots of memorabilia. "Cahrade", is one of Audreys best in my opinion. It starts off exciting and it never simmers down. You are always on the edge of you seat wondering what will happen next.

I highly recomend "Charade". Even though the widescreen version is a bit crackely it still is an awesome movie.

Summary: Excellent Movie, that sucks you right in
Review: I just watched this movie for the first time. Let me just start by saying that I had no idea that the song came before the movie.

The film itself is a first rate who-done-it. It kept me guessing until the very end. The interaction between Cary Grant and Audrey Hepburn works very well. There are jokes about the age difference that remind me of any movie that has Sean Connery now. The supporting cast is also very good.

Anyone who says that this film could have been done by Hitchcock would be correct, not to slight Stanley Donen in any way. He has done an excellent job with the direction of the movie.

If you like classic movies, add this to your list.

Summary: "Charade" is unique entertainment
Review: This literally once-in-a-lifetime pairing of Audrey Hepburn and Cary Grant is also a uniquely charming entertainment, gracefully directed by Stanley Donen. Critics of the time didn't know quite what to make of this picture, but it was a success nonetheless, even with its unusual mix of romantic comedy, spy thriller and black humor. But the real story is the chemistry between these two great stars. Just watch what they do with the scene in which Grant showers with all his clothes on, or the irresistable romance of their nighttime boatride on the Seine. Like the one time only pairing of Judy Garland and Fred Astaire in "Easter Parade," it's a treasure. And if you think that any of the bland so-called stars who dully populate today's films can compare, you've been drinking far too heavily.

Summary: Charade DVD--Excellent!
Review: Charade is an awesome movie in an awesome DVD. I know there are lots of Charade DVDs out there, and I've only seen this one, but it's very good. There are a lot more things on it than it says on this page! There is about a 15 min. biography on Cary Grant, another version of Charade in 1953 i think. It comes in a nice keep case, which is alot better than snap cases, in my opinion! The dvd i'm talking about has audrey hepburn hugging cary grant on the cover, and a little picture of them both running away. The words "Charade" are red @ the bottom....just so you know which one i'm referring to. very good! i bought this version because i DID NOT want to shell out $... on the criterion one! that's outrageous. i think you'll be please with this version!
