Review: Love it, love it, love it. Kate Hepburn is, as always, perfection itself. Cary Grant and Jimmy Stewart are magic. _Amazing_ dialogue. I could watch this movie over and over again.

Summary: Bring tissues- you will cry with laughter!
Review: This film has Katharine Hepburn, Cary Grant and James Stewart at their best. It is full of one liners casually thrown out and you will laugh nonstop. Hepburn is a society heiress about to marry a real square two years after her divorce from Cary Grant. With Jimmy as a smitten reporter and Grant coming back to stop the wedding this is one of the funniest movies ever. The cast is perfect and the part of Tracy Lord was actually written about Hepburn and she 'plays herself to perfection' a definite must see.

Summary: A Funny, Breezy Comedy with All-Star Performances!
Review: The Philadelphia Story is a fabulous filming of Katharine Hepburn's Broadway triumph, and was famous for several reasons; first, it returned Hepburn to Hollywood, after she had been declared 'Box Office Poison'; it gave Jimmy Stewart his only 'Best Actor' Oscar (albeit it was probably a consolation award for losing for Mr. Smith Goes to Washington, in 1939); and it further solidified the Cary Grant screen persona as a worldly and wise bon vivant (a move begun by directors Howard Hawks and George Cukor in the late '30s), playing a character which would fit Grant so well that he would continue playing variations of it for the next 25 years! In watching this sparkling comedy, note the wonderful supporting cast, particularly Ruth Hussey, as Stewart's partner (in an underrated performance...she is very good!) and Roland Young (the original 'Topper') as Hepburn's uncle. While the film is a bit static (and occasionally heavy with 'smart' dialogue that doesn't age well), there are so many comic gems that it's difficult to quibble. Hepburn is remarkably sexy as the 'once-and-future' bride, and it's easy to see why Grant, Stewart, and John Howard would all want her. While it's social classes subtext may seem a bit dated, today, the theme of a woman rediscovering the man who truly loves her is universal, and makes The Philadelphia Story a timeless joy!

Summary: Sophisticated romp through class-conscious Philly
Review: Cukor brings to life three delightfully flawed characters in The Philadelphia Story. Stewart's adaptation of Barry's stage play zings with wit and sarcasm, providing a veritable roller coaster of emotions as Tracy Lord (Katharine Hepburn) goes through a period of self-actualization prior to her second marriage. The fast paced interplay among Hepburn, Stewart, and Grant causes the viewer's ears to stay alert for the next insult or inside joke, while rooting for the "happy ending." This video showcases the three actors at their best. It is also a feat for Cukor, sitting in the director's chair. With minimal set changes, he manages to keep the "extras" simple to allow the viewer to focus on the relationships among the characters. Tha extraordinary supporting cast provides ample opportunity for tangles and confusion. The Philadelphia Story proves a video worth watching again and again! Bravo!

Review: This is one of my favorite movies. This acting is perfect, but the movie is a little too talky.

Summary: Refreshing as a cold glass of lemonade on a hot summer day
Review: Light, breezy and refreshing!! Thats how I would describe this DVD re-issue. Cary Grant and Jimmie Stewart are excellent. The supporting cast is top-notch, and the dialogue affective. Oh..yes..Katharine Hepburn holds her own. The DVD image is uncannily perfect. END

Summary: One of the all time best!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Definitely one of the best casts and story ever. Cary Grant, Katherine Hepburn (her best role), and Jimmy Stewart. Watch this video then find a movie called "bringing up baby", with Hepburn and grant in a classic comedy that actually bombed when released. Both good movies for men and women, not too heavy and very entertaing. A must see END

Summary: The REAL High Society
Review: Branded by Hollywood as "Box Office Poison" (usually the death blow to an actor's career), Katherine Hepburn put all of her eggs in this ONE basket, to prove she's still a force to be recconned with. Reprising her stage role, Kate secures the rights for the film version of "The Philadelphia Story". The trick worked. Katherine Hepburn was back as a big star on the Hollywood Sky.

Tracy Lord (Katherine Hepburn), a spoiled socialite scheduled to remarry when her first husband, C.K. Dexterhaven (Cary Grant) shows up as uninvited wedding guest. Add to the mix, Mike Connor (James Stewart) a reporter who is supposed to be covering the wedding for the tabloids but winds up falling for Tracy himself. The brief triangle has a predictable ending.

Less glamorous than the 1955 Technicolor Musical re-make "High Society" with Grace Kelly and Bing Crosby, this black & white Classic remains the superior production. Somewhat dated (definitely 1940s Movie Star Magazine material), this is still a groundbreaking romantic comedy. Ted Turner: Please keep your crayons away from this one!****
