Review: I had an other movie in mind as i bought Best Friends wedding - I dont remember which - and I realised I bought this stupid movie in error. Best Friends Wedding is so disappointing for me. Not only because after watching this film I find pretty woman Julia a really ugly woman. Maybe the character she plays also takes influence on her visual appearance. I mean to make an it-want-to-be romantic film about a person which has such a deep bad soul, for me it is anything but romantic. And then all the artificial acting, it is such a pain. Not to mention about "comedy"... where? Its sad.

Summary: Mish Mash sentimentalese
Review: It is a funny film, a very entertaining film, even if it is very sentimental and very conventional. Julia Roberts is a woman who had a close liaison with a man, but this man decides to fall in love with another woman and to marry her. It becomes a fight to the finish between the two women, but Julia Roberts finally realises that the man loves the other woman and yields. Then she does all she can for the wedding to be a success. And she falls back on her other friend, who is gay, and life becomes a big dancing party. We are caught dreaming and hoping life to be just that, even if we know it will never be. But it is good to dream and to forget for a while that life is nothing but a dancing party, or a wedding party as for that.Dr Jacques COULARDEAU, University of Perpignan

Summary: Overrated
Review: I found this movie to be quite overrated. This was yet another movie billed as a comedy but that produced very few laughs. The thin plot grew tiresome quickly. The best part of the movie is the sing-along and the music. It's not that it's a "bad" movie, it's just not immensely entertaining. I'd buy the soundtrack before I bought the movie. It's odd because Julia Roberts typically makes much better choices. Go with Mystic Pizza, Runaway Bride, or Notting Hill instead.

Summary: ANYONE WHO LIKES ROMANTIC COMEDIES SHOULD BE PUNCHED
Review: THis movie was so bad. My ex-girlfriend dragged me into it. I spent the rest of the night thinking how much I hated this movie. Seriously, it was boring and unoriginal. Julia Roberts cannot act and neither can Cameron Diaz (ughh I hate her). If you like this movie then I have to question your intellligence. DO yourself a favor and rent "Office Space" instead.

Summary: Darkly Charming, Or 'You Can Jus' Call Us Eager'!...
Review: ... First, the leading characters are none of them particularly honest, either to others or to themselves. Julianne (Julia Roberts), of course, is the most egregriously deceitful; she continually insists on her love for Michael (Dermot Mulroney) to her gay friend George (Rupert Everett) but in the scene on the tourist boat in the Chicago River when Michael practically invites her to declare her feelings, she allows the moment to pass though she obviously understands its significance. (This is either egocentric self-absorption taken to the max, or an incredibly constricted personality who needs therapy!) Michael too seems to comprehend his real attachment to 'Jules' but apparently has some sort of obsession with a rather adolescent Kimmy (Cameron Diaz), who swings from total adoration of Michael to angry accusation and then back again. All three principals in this strange 'romantic comedy' seem essentially dysfunctional in their intimate relationships and not nearly as self-knowing as they claim. Consequently I found the film fascinating -- because in the guise of 'light' movie fare it is such a trenchant critique of a lack of real communication in contemporary 'love'. The inability to 'risk' needing someone (as George observes) is emblematic, perhaps, of two (now) generations of the children of the divorced. The result seems to be that people like Jules, Michael and Kimmy are incapable of perceiving who they truly are. By the last scenes of the movie I think it is clear that Jules and Michael really should marry and that Kimmy's and Michael's marriage is bound for a courtroom eventually. But then everyone seems only fatalistic about the outcomes -- for instance, every time Julianne attempts her underhanded tricks they seem so abortively transparent that her expression betrays even her dire lack of confidence in what she is doing! This is actually a 'dark' film masquerading as comedy because it portrays ostensible adults who, though extremely competent in their occupations, are, in truth, moral children only half-conscious of their intimate selves. This is not to say that many scenes are not very funny and that all the actors are not at the top of their forms; they surely are. Roberts is extremely good (as well as more beautiful and engaging than ever) as a very bright and appealing but emotionally stunted young woman, and Everett is just a master of looks and timing who even steals scenes from Julie! And Mulroney and Diaz are attractive performers who project a subtle poignancy to their anxious hope that they can be a real married couple. But I must say that my very favorite 'couple', really, in 'My Best Friend's Wedding' is Amanda and Samantha Newhouse (Carrie Preston and Rachel Griffiths), the cousins that Kimmy dismisses so callously as 'vengeful [gifls]' but whose own self-awareness is refreshing. (Mandy accepts the above crude designation as a blithe joke -- Samantha even plays with it by suggesting that 'you can jus' call us eager'!) Both women speak frankly and without pretense, both are kind to others and willing to share in their fun and to aid in whatever way they can. Treated indifferently by especially Kimmy, her mother (Susan Sullivan, who openly insults them) and Julianne, they still join in Jules' way of wishing some sort of happiness to the benighted Michael and Kimmy by singing (charmingly and with great grace) Dorothy Field's and Jerome Kern's wonderful 'The Way You Look Tonight'. Unfortunately the director, P. J. Hogan, gives Preston and Griffiths only very short scenes in which nevertheless both actresses show off their tremendous dual charm so well that the audience can hardly wait to see them again -- for not only are they the most fun, in fact they are the 'best people' in this movie.

Summary: One of the Best Romantic comedies of all-time!
Review: It's a beautiful movie that brought Julia Roberts back on the big screen. She's extremely funny and sweet and the rest of the cast is lovable too! It's a unique motion picture that'll make you feel all giddy. It's a little something for 'Friends' and most Julia Roberts' fans. This feature is filled with unpredictability. Just when you think something's going to happen it doesn't. It constantly keeps you thinking. And when Julia isn't there to make you laugh, her friend Rupert is there for you. It's very appealing and alongside 'Notting Hill' and 'Runaway Bride' it's one of the best comedies of all time. Julia and her charms- a winner despite the fact that in this movie she's a clumsy but still a lovable goof! And let's not forget that darling smile! It's one of a kind. It's something that almost everyone will enjoy. There are quite a few neglected opportunities here in this feature. The whole cast is perfect for the movie. The movie revolves around Julianne (played by Roberts) who promised her best friend to marry him if they're both not with anyone by the time they're 28. And then not shockingly Michael calls her when she's 28 and says he's desperate to talk to her. Excitedly Julianne calls him back only to find out that her 'Best friend's wedding' is with another woman. If that wasn't bad enough, she's to be his feonsay maid of honor. It's unpredictable, it's funny, it's very entertaining, it's shocking, it's annoying (Diaz is certainly not a women with a vocal talent), but overall it's one of the best movies I've ever seen. An Oscar nominated feature with a very catchy soundtrack "Say a little Prayer" by Diana King- this movie has it all. The score, the songs, the comedy, the cast, the story, and the plot- it's all award-worthy! It's just perfect! ----Ahmed Mashhood

Review: Unlike the other reviews, I thought the movie was a downer with a point of view problem. At the beginning of the movie, one has the impression that there is hope for renewal. Then she is mean and calculating with Cameron's character, and was put in the humiliating situation of chasing after her best friend, only to lose out. I say thumbs down!

Summary: The Best Romantic, Screwball Comedy in Forty Years!
Review: Once upon a time, there lived some very concerned and fast talking Hollywood Agents, witty Managers and one very powerful Film Studio Chief that adored an actress named Julia Roberts. She was fortunate to star in a major film that became a box office success with her co-star, Richard Gere. Unfortunately, Julia began to follow the "bad luck" path and footsteps of another great actress, Katherine Hephurn, and was on the verge of a similar label... "Box Office Poison". After a string of "yawning" mediocre dramas and box office profits, the mighty Hollywood entourage finally woke up to realize, and (thankfully) convinced Julia Roberts, to put her "pearly white brites" were her money was (and still is)... in comedies, not dark dramas. Thank God Julia Roberts chose to star in this (now) romantic classic film. "My Best Friend's Wedding" was the movie that made me fall in love with and admire all of the incredible "colors of emotions" portrayed by this incredibly intuitive and soulful actress. Not only is "My Best Friend's Wedding" a superb comedy, creatively filled with slick - thought out comical scenes, it contains one of the top emotional and romantic scenes in motion picture history. The scene involves Julia Roberts (Julianne Potter) and her old flame, Dermot Mulroney (Michael O'Neal) as they cruise down the Chicago River. Dermott Mulroney (Michael) conveys the importance of verbalizing the three most powerful words... "I Love You" ... to someone special if they really cared. The entire moment of that particular scene was filmed, acted, directed, and musically scored in the most astounding cinematic way. It always brings tears to my eyes when Dermott (Michael) gently rocks Julia (Julianne) in his arms as he softly sings "The Way You Look Tonight". As they continue to dance, we see Julia's (Julianne's) face with several tears gently gliding down. This scene is worthy to be included for, (and if) The Academy of Motion Pictures Arts & Sciences should ever present, a romantic comedy retrospective. Watch it. I think you'll agree. Julia wasn't even nominated for Best Actress at the Academy Awards, however truly deserved The "Best Actress" Oscar for a triumphant comeback as the "Queen of the contemporary screwball, romantic comedy".

Review: I don't regularly watch so-called "Chick Flix," but since my friend Chatchi is about to get married, I've found myself watching a lot of wedding-themed movies. Of those that I've seen so far, "My Best Friend's Wedding" is the most entertaining. Julia Roberts is funny as heck, but nothing compares to Rupert Everett. I hope he hits it big, because that man is FUNNY. He's definitely one of the more charismatic actors working today. So, pick this movie up. It will make you laugh, cry, and want to snuggle with someone!

Review: MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDDING is a hilarious romantic-comedy. Julia Roberts is truly at her best in this film as Julianne, a food critic who's long-time childhood best friend, Michael (Dermot Mulroney) is getting married to some other woman, just when Julianne starts to have feelings for him! The woman Michael is marrying is Kimberly (Cameron Diaz), a college student with a fillthy-rich father. Julianne is hopelessly in love with Michael, so to get Michael back, Julianne must find a way to stop the wedding and make Michael fall in love with Julianne herself! She gets her partner and friend, George (Rupert Everett), to help her win over Michael. The ending is actually surprising, because you'd think Julianne wins back Michael, but she actually doesn't. So it is good to see the protagonist in a film to not get what they want in the end, but can still have a happy ending. The whole cast is absolutely superb! And one of my favorite scenes is when Julianne and George pretend that they just got engaged (George is really gay), and while meeting Kimberly's family for dinner and they ask how George proposed to Julianne, George starts singing the song "I Say A Little Prayer", and then everyone else in the cast starts joining in, except for Julianne and Michael. It's a very funny movie with a witty script. If you have not yet seen MY BEST FRIENDS WEDDING, then what are you waiting for? But definitely get the special edition DVD for this movie because it's better than the other DVD. I just love MY BEST FRIEND'S WEDDING! Great date movie, too. A must see.
