Review: This movie kicks butt! I only wish I had two friends like Micheal and George! You can't help but smile at this movie. The songs are awesome too-especially their own rendition of "I say a little prayer for you". Rupert Everett steals every scene he's in and will completly steal your heart. You should definetly see this.

Review: This ain't Shakespeare, kids! This is Julia Roberts at the top of her game. Her evil machinations to get Kimmy out of her life will never work, and in the end she ain't dancing with the groom, but the whole cast is so good here. Julia sweetie, forget the Mary Reillys and do what you excel at!

Summary: The insanity of love
Review: The Australian director P.J. Hogan ("Muriel's Wedding") has gone Hollywood and the results are slightly disappointing, but you may want to catch "My Best Friend's Wedding" on video.Julia Roberts stars as Julianne (her nickname's "Jules" which may be a reference to Truffaut's "Jules and Jim" - the classic romantic triangle movie). She's a single food critic, who, as the film opens, gets a call from an old boyfriend, Michael (Dermot Mulroney) - he's getting married in four days to Kim (Cameron Diaz). Suddenly, Jules realizes she actually loves Michael and sets her sights on breaking up the wedding. "She's toast," she tells her gay editor (well played by Rupert Everett). Michael wants her at the wedding (for support) and Kim actually asks her to be her maid of honor - little does she know. "My Best Friend's Wedding" is in the romantic comedy tradition. It doesn't go for big laughs and I was surprised at how unlikable Julia Roberts character was (physical clues: she hides behind dark sunglasses and smokes). Of all the relationships in the film I actually liked the one between Roberts and Rupert Everett best. They're perfect for each other (except he's gay). And he gives the best advice - except she doesn't listen. You may find (as I did) that you really despise the stunts Roberts pulls. If you stick with it, though, there's a nice payoff at the end. And it helps if you keep in mind that love is insane. (It doesn't quite make 3 stars, but I'd have selected 2 1/2 if that were an option.)

Summary: Fun and Lighthearted
Review: So what if this movie doesn't have the most plausible plot! It's not supposed to. When people ask me what my favorite movie is, I tell them this one without a second's hesitation. I think I saw it 7 times at the theater. It reminds you of the first time you told somebody you liked them and how nervous you were. I do like the ending because it brings the movie back to reality. You don't always win. To anyone who likes this movie, I would suggest seeing "Fools Rush In" and "Return to Me."

Summary: A bit flawed, but otherwise delightful.
Review: The only thing I really didn't like about this movie (and it's only a trivial detail) was the opening credits with this girl group in bridal outfits singing that old 50's song (which I can't recall the name of right now). Maybe it's just me, but I found it annoying. Others may find it amusing. Anyway, the movie itself is great. Julia Roberts finds out her best friend is getting married, but wants to break it up. That's the basic premise. The laughs come fast and furious when she takes off to break up the marriage. She ends up becoming friends with the bride (Cameron Diaz) and turning everyone's life upside down. It's a great Julia Roberts movie. But, let's not forget Rupert Holmes who did such a wonderful job as Roberts' gay friend, who comes to save the day with a flamboyant charm (including a hilarious group sing-along of Dionne Warwick's "I Say A Little Prayer For You"). And, don't miss the scene where a member of the wedding party gets her tongue stuck to an ice sculpture of Nude David (guess where). The only flaw I can see in the film (and it's a big one) is the character of Michael, the friend getting married. (For the life of me, I can't remember the actor's name.) His whole character, and perhaps it's in the talent of the actor, is weak, uninteresting, and lacking any depth at all, not to mention that distracting scar on his face. His lack of depth might go unnoticed except that he's one of the main characters. Fortunately, Roberts and Holmes pick up the slack and make it a wonderfully funny film.

Summary: All Right, But not Robert's best
Review: I thoght it was a good idea for a story plot, but not execuuted well on screen. The whole movie became very stale about 1/2 hour in. Not much you can due with a girl trying to break up a wedding and steal the groom. I like most of Julia Robert's movies, but not this one.

Review: One of the wonderful things about film, is its unpredictability. Many times one looks toward a film like My Best Friend's Wedding and says: Formula (or worse) comedy, vapid performance by one of film's lesser talented and marginally attractive female leads, wedged within too many audience 'treats'--weak, shallow set pieces using topical humor-so topical that they stale by the time of video release, only to be pleasantly surprised by a smart, strong film with good writing and strong performances. This is not one of those times. Bad idea, cheap casting and sanguine script combine with today's studio formulation to make an indistinguishable mess. Not surprisingly, this movie will make the career of Cameron Diaz, revive the career of Julia Roberts, establish the career of Rupert Everett, and kill the career of Dermot Mulroney. At 105 mins probably 100 or so too long..............Next...........

Summary: Rupert Everett salvages an otherwise dreadful movie
Review: In his role as Julia Roberts' gay friend George, Rupert Everett effortlessly steals the show--he is urbane and witty, wise and caring, and of course uproariously funny and drop-dead gorgeous. In contrast, "leading man" Dermot Mulroney appears crass, callow, and utterly devoid of charm or magnetism. This movie, billed as a comedy, has a element of mystery at its core: Why on earth would two such winners as Julia Roberts and Cameron Diaz fight for the affections of such a dolt!

Summary: My Favorite...by far
Review: This is one of my favorite movies of all time. It's very sweet from beginning to end. Julia Roberts plays Juliana, a former tomboy who finds out her best friend Michael (Dermott Mulroony) is getting married to a younger woman, Kimmy (Cameron Diaz). Juliana then realizes she's in love with Michael and tries to stop the wedding. It's a fun movie with romance mixed with comedy. It reallymakes you cry at the end. If you like Notting Hill, you'll love this too!

Summary: The True Work of a Masterpiece
Review: Julia Roberts may not have been able to steal the heart of the groom, but she sure did steal the audiences' hearts. This romantic comedy is funny and touching. Not just Roberts, but the entire cast is surely working at their best during this film. I love this movie, and I never get tired of watching it over and over. If you are a fan of movies like Runaway Bride, Ghost, etc., then make sure that you at least rent this movie for yourself.
