Summary: More realistic than Pretty Woman or Notting Hill!
Review: I am not so much into romance/comedy type of movies but I like Julia Roberts & Richard Gere, especially in their previous team-up Pretty Woman, so I decided to watch Runaway Bride.

Though the plot was predictable with Julia/Maggie dumping her latest fiance, I did not expect that she would also run away from Richard/Ike. Their making up & reuniting at the end was so 'down-to-earth'& real; & all of us can relate to that. No fancy thoughts, no fairy tale, no "& they lived happily ever after" kind of stuff. Here you will see what life really is. People struggle with their own fears & try to move on, still a continuous struggle towards a better life.

That proposal by Maggie to Ike was the most unromantic thing I ever heard...BUT IT MADE ME CRY!!!!!!

Summary: Unbearably Stupid!
Review: Richard Gere plays a newspaper reporter who ahs been sacked because he can't write, er, good articles. When Richy hears about a Runaway Bride named Maggie Carpenter who likes to dump grooms ride at the altar, he decides it is the perfect story to win back his job. So, he immediately goes down to Maggie's home town. She is currently engaged, and he is not leaving until she runs from that chapel again! However, when our Richy falls for Maggie, things get more and more complicated. Is he still in love with his job? Or is going to go for Maggie instead?

Runaway Bride has a perfectly good idea, but the script is poor and weak. The direction from Mr. Marshall is not near as good as the effort he put into Pretty Woman. The leading actors have good names, but unfortunately their performances aren't good enough to give this film an extra star.

Do not waste your time on this unbearably stupid trash!

Summary: Shameful, misandric tripe, that wastes great actors
Review: Over the years, I've given thousands of dollars to shelters for women, in the hope that abused women would find the strength to realize that they should only associate with men who respect them.

So, what is the moral of this movie? Women--if a verbally abusive jerk like Gere's character repeatedly mistreats you, just keep on trying to "reform" him . . . eventually, you'll turn him into marriage material, and you'll ride off into the sunset and live happily ever after.

What a crock this movie is. Women are told that it's okay to be afriad of commitment. On the other hand, it's not okay for men to be afraid of commitment. Double-standard, anyone?

Gere's character is a complete misogynist; but, for some reason, Roberts just knows that somehow she can "save" him. Is this the message that we need to be sending to women in a nation where a woman is assaulted every 9 seconds?

Furthermore, the overall theme of man-hating in this film is so thick you can cut it with a knife. The director is out to prove that all men, in one way or another, are evil, and they cannot be trusted.

Great actors like Hector Elizondo, Sandra Taylor, Joan Cusack, and Rita Wislon are absolutely wasted in this mean-spirited "chick flick."

Summary: Completely unbelievable plot
Review: Yes, I know this is a comedy, not a documentary, but come on: A reporter writes a libelous story about this woman without even trying to contact her (I was glad he was fired), basically ruins her life (she could have lived down the three weddings if he hadn't barged into town), then comes to town for the big expose and her family (including fiance 4) let him into the house! Granted the first four fiances were not right for Julia's character, but to think anyone would marry that creep after he harassed her (don't they have stalking laws in Hale?) is a bit much. I wanted to shoot him and her family.

Summary: pretty empty
Review: that's the best thing you can say; very cute, and just fine if you liked Pretty Woman; Richard Gere is very charming and sometimes funny, and Julia is Julia; there's cameoes by Larry Miller and Hector Elizando (!); check out the soundtrack, featuring Shawn Colvin and the Dixie Chicks - it's not bad

Summary: Very Bland
Review: All The Chemistry in the World Doesn't make a Great,Good,or even Average Film.those words plus Fair don't even Describe this Awful Film.Roberts,Gere&Marshall are just Cashing in the Check on this Forgettable Mess.Nothing Fresh or Original here.

Summary: A must-see!
Review: This is Richard and Julia at their best. I think the onscreen chemistry was even better between them in "Runaway Bride" than their last project, "Pretty Woman". The story really gets to those of us who anticipate or remember the nerve-wracking experience of tying the knot! Julia Roberts has really blossomed over the last decade as an acress of all genres. Definately worth buying.

Summary: Watch Looker!
Review: Richard Gere and Julia Roberts are once again. Gere plays a newspaper reporter doing a story on a woman (Roberts) getting or trying to marry for the forth time. This movie is great for a laugh or two, but it's a movie you keep looking at your watch during.

Rating: 2 stars
Summary: Nothing wrong with the CHEMISTRY, but where is the MAGIC???
Review: I hate to say it, but I disagree with people who call this another "Pretty Woman". I wasn't looking for Pretty Woman when I went to see this movie I was just looking for a fun, romantic comedy...well one out of three isn't so bad. There is no denying that Julia Roberts and Richard Geer have plenty on onscreen chemistry, but the movie was lacking any sort of magic. The plot is ridiculous. A supposed "man hating" young woman who ditches men at the altar is up to bat again. In her way is the slick city reporter who desperately wants the story, enough to go to any lengths to get it, even tail the poor woman around her small town. In true romantic comedy form the slick city reporter falls for the small town girl and all sorts of hi-jinx occur. If the plotline doesn't make you roll your eyes in disbelief the choppinness of the movie should. The sequences are poorly organized and other than the two lead characters you really have absolutely no character development. I truly wanted to like this movie, but found myself wondering why they bothered teaming up such a fantastic pair on such a blah movie. If you truly are in the mood to see Julia try "Notting Hill" a truly delightful movie which makes Fairy Tales seem believable once again. I say save yourself some money and RENT this film if you are desperate to see it, otherwise....wait for Julia and Richard another 8+ years to see if they go at it again.

Summary: Gere, Roberts and Marshall Strike Gold Again
Review: Well if you're expecting a Pretty Woman Sequel, this is not it. But if you're expecting a movie with all the charm, positive actor dynamics and great directing of Pretty Woman, this is definitely the movie for you! Gere and Roberts have still got their on screen chemistry and Marshall gives them a great outlet for it. The story is different enough that it can stand on its own two feet but also included are the perfect number of allusions to the 1990 flick for any avid Pretty Woman fan. Hector Elizondo adds to the Pretty Woman nostalgia. The one liners are fantastic; "Curl Up and Dye" was too cute. The story very much on the predictable side, but that's to be expected with any chick flick. On top of all that, the lack of sex, swearing and violence make it a wholesome film--a rarity these days. If you're looking for a nice, cute film with magic that only this actor-director combination can create, then run to see Runaway Bride. Two thumbs up!
