Summary: early Julia -- got to love her
Review: Despite the nagging feeling that this was originally made for TV, this is a charming story. I saw it in theaters back in the day, and I still look for it from time to tome on TBS Superstation. Despite Julia's prominence on the movie cover, this story is actually about 3 women in that classic early twenties angst phase. It's a good coming of age film to watch when you're taking a sick day, or while you're getting over your hangover from a night with the girls.

Summary: Hopes and Dreams....
Review: I must warn you, if you watch this movie without having a big delicious pizza nearby, you will want to order one and if watching this movie very late in the night, you will have to stop the movie, run to the local grocery store and find one....all because it really started making me quite hungry! You could have a pizza party with girlfriends and buy a box of tissues as well, since there are some sad scenes, but not too much to handle.

Three waitresses live in a little fishing town called Mystic. The pizza joint makes Mystic Pizza and the ingredients are kept secret. If you love movies with "food" themes, this one is great. The whole story is centered around the waitresses working at the pizza joint. Their lives do a few flips in the story and you never quite know which way they are going to land.

Each waitress falls in love with the man of her dreams, each with varying levels of success. JoJo is quite cute and is played by Lili Taylor. She is the one who is afraid to commit to her man and it is refreshing to see the story the other way around.

Annabeth Gish is an actress I would like to see in more movies and she brought a certain depth to her character. Putting Julia Roberts with Annabeth Gish and Lili Taylor in the same movie creates a certain "girls day out" magic.

While they want to escape from this lobster/cod catching town, they do want to get their claws into life and even when something "fishy" happens it turns out Daisy still has

the love of her man. They all end up catching some of the good in life and discover who they really are.

If you think you would like to see a movie about three love stories with humor and a roller coaster ride of emotions, this just might be for you. It is in some ways similar to Runaway Bride, except JoJo is doing the running and Daisy seems much more centered. Kat is just finding her way into the world of men and love is not too kind to her.

Julia Roberts plays the part of Daisy Araujo with flair although while watching all her movies I have come to the conclusion that "swearing" is now her middle name. I would love to see her make a movie without all the swearing as she just has such a charming personality and well...sigh...I just think she is too nice to be swearing like a trooper. Please, would someone write a script for her without swearing? Or is it that those words sound so innocent when she speaks them? I am trying to figure this out. As usual, I just buy Julia's movies and forget to check the rating.

This one seems to be rated R for swearing and not much else that I haven't seen in a PG rating. The lines seem to be a bit blurred in the ratings at times.

Julia does light up the screen for sure!

Enjoy

Summary: Wonderful is too quaint for this movie!
Review: Julia Roberts heads the cast as a spunky, small town dreamer who falls inlove with a townie. Her sister, Kat, falls for the wrong guy while her best friend, Jo, pushes the right man away. Not all relationships have happy endings but this movie will keep you laughing, crying and rooting for all three characters.

Summary: Great Surprise To A Julia Roberts Fan
Review: I only recently purchased Mystic Pizza and have already watched it 5 times. It's a wonderful storyline with Julia heading the cast as a strong willed, small town dreamer. I thought she gave a wonderful performance. Her on screen sister, Kat, and best friend, Jo, added flavor, humor and drama to a wonderful movie. I would recommend it to all.

Summary: Entertaining tale of life and pizza
Review: I have seen this film several times and each time I find something else to like about it. What I find the most appealing is that while there is a formula to the main charecters, they don't seem to be living the roles and it shows. One girl is chasing her boyfriend for sex without committment, one if off to Yale and is earning pocket money for the summer and the last is the perfect "one day at a time and no thought to the future" character. What saves this formula is the premise that they all revolve around the local pizza joint in Mystic, CT. As a kid I lived in New London, just across the river from the town. There was a pizza place near our house but it was nowhere near as elegant. But the charecter of the proprietess in the movie rings absolutely true to the woman I knew as a kid. I felt, at times, like I was teleported back to the region. Maybe I looked at this movie with different motives, but it doesn't prevent me from enjoying the film and recommending it to others as an early Julia Roberts before real fame overtook her. The language is a little earthy so it might not be good for young children, otherwise, I think everyone will enjoy it.

Summary: An overlooked comedy!
Review: This is one of the best movies I have ever watched! What makes it so great is that it centers around a little pizza joint in New England. It portrays love, friendship, family, and life in a realistic way. The actors and actresses are all wonderful and peice together perfectly. If you havent seen this movie yet, you must!!

Summary: Friends through it all
Review: Mystic Pizza is a great introduction to the acting talent of Annabeth Gish, Julia Roberts, and Lily Taylor. All three did an excellent job portraying their lovestruck characters. Julia Roberts plays the boy chasing flirt who can play pool with the best of them. Annabeth is the straight A full-scholarship sister who falls in love with a man she can't have. Lily plays the confused, cold-footed engaged friend who can't decide what exactly she wants out of life until one day....

Summary: Sweet but essentially unchallenging
Review: This film will help an empty evening pass by quite nicely.

It is the tale of 3 (female) friends who work in a pizza restaurant, and their complicated love lives.

The characters within it are slightly cliched, which tends to give it an unchallenging homely feel.

There are few surprises and nothing that offends. Overall a 'nice' film, best served with a glass of red wine after a stressful day.
